Rey Solo debunked after all?

 

I don't take it at face value anyway. While I don't think that they're flat out lying/misdirecting on everything, I do think that they're doing it for some things (and speaking half-truths on others). Also:

-The various actors/production people just might not know everything.
-I doubt that they'd want to spoil future plot points (even by implication) on their social media accounts/interviews.
-They WANT us to debate/discuss/argue about this stuff, they must be LOVING it right now. It keeps people talking about the film, and the next one, even longer. And it helps build hype for VIII even over a year and a half out.

It was the first meeting between "Rey" and Leia (certainly on-screen, anyway) where Leia shows off that two-stoned ring on her right-hand.

And "Rey" might not be her original name (rather, being one she could have picked up on Jakku)...







...and two separate authors wrote that Rey "calls herself Rey" which suggests that that idea comes from Lucasfilm not something that they coincidentally made up independently of each other.

 

When Rey pulls out Luke's light saber, what else is in that bag? Why does she even have a bag? Its not like Chewy was dropping her off and hitting the road.

 

More screen time for Luke? I'm all in.

It's nice to hear JJ's explanation for the Chewie thing. I get what he was going for there, but it was just shot/paced in a wonky way. He should have at least had Leia and Chewie acknowledge/look at one another, or make it more clear that Chewie was preoccupied with getting Finn to the medical bay. That would have probably made the scene less iffy for most people.

It's interesting to hear his thoughts on the Rey/Leia stuff. And once again, keeping things ambiguous.

 

J.J. slipped. I love that you posted the definition of reunion. I still believe that Rey is a Solo.

He also mentions "mutual loss." I don't think he would've said that if Han wasn't someone close to Rey, like Leia.

It's expected he still has more to offer, one more lightsaber duel.

 

There's one thing that has had me thinking.

When Kylo (Ben) meets Rey face-to-face for the first time he says to her "The girl I've heard so much about" yet before then he only heard about her twice and they were brief mentions.

1. When the Imperial officer tells Kylo that Finn and BB-8 were accompanied by a girl.
2. At Maz's castle, a stormtrooper tells Kylo that BB-8 was last seen heading west with a girl.

So why is he saying he's heard so much about her?

 

Knowing JJ's previous explanations to obscure plot points ("R2 powered up at that precise moment because it just did" and "Rey and Leia never met, but they were having a reunion"), I'm gonna say he heard more about her off screen.

 

You're right. Except for Rey throughout most of the film. Maybe she was planning on scavenging Luke's hut. She seemed to be giving the eyeball to a few items as she climbed the stairs.

 

Well, Pablo Hidalgo just dropped a big bomb on Twitter for those out there who still have her mom (aka "Luke's wife") dropped Rey on Jakku theory (which, for the record, I don't believe as I don't think Luke has a wife and Rey is his daughter, etc)
