Thanks. I was just watching it again when I noticed Daisy sitting in the seat next to Peter. I was paying so much attention to Peter the first few times I watched it that I completely missed Daisy. I think your right about the possible placement of the scene. She is wearing a jacket in that shot that we haven't seen before in the scenes she is on Jakku.

 

Or they purposely witheld them to keep the speculation alive. Its not lying if they only tell you part of the story.

 

That's not how this works

 

I was referring to her piloting the falcon on her own... in the gyrating cockpit gizmo.... The jacket is: They aren't actively filming and she's cold... but i DO hope she is wearing something more appropriate after Jakku

 

I suspect that is just a hoodie to keep her warm or comfortable between takes.

 

I actually felt his point was more about Finn and trying to dispel the idea that they were looking to fill ANY particular role with a certain ethnicity. They made a point of embracing diversity, but balancing that with attributing great acting to all of the characters. In other words, it is about the actor's ability first and foremost.

But to the extent the comments can be inferred to provide a hint as to Rey's parentage, I have to acknowledge that it would suggest a more likely connection to Luke rather than Leia and Han. After all, sine we are unlikely to ever meet any love interest of Luke on film, they can write whatever backstory necessary to fit the person they ultimately cast.

I know lots of people are saying that the clip shows Rey piloting the Falcon, but I don't. It seems much more likely to me that she is manning the turret, perhaps with Boyega at the other end all Luke and Han blasting Ties in ANH. There was far more individual movement in those turrets than in the cockpit, as seen in this "gyrating gizmo." Just my two cents.

 

No matter what JJ said, the actress callbacks Magnar has documented, the MSW analysis, and Rey's visit to Japan all support her being Leia's daughter.

My own personal opinion? JJ and Kasdan wrote several young characters who they could shuffle the Skywalker lineage into as they wished, perhaps in Episode VIII. They were always going to cast at least one black (perhaps Lando lineage) and one Caucasian (Han/Leia lineage for sure) young person. Remember, JJ liked the way ANH's world was open and could be filled in later with the lineage. Perhaps he wanted this new trilogy to follow the same pattern.

So it's true, when they wrote the young characters they didn't know who would be the Calrissian and who would be the Skywalker. But then they casted and figured that out. Or they'll leave it to Johnson to finish.

Also, remember Mizzlewump's rumors, which had the ring of truth to them.

 

I thought so too, but looking at it again it's clear that it's the cockpit. There are two seats there, for one thing. And if you look at the whole assembly, it's clearly in the shape of the Falcon's cockpit with the crooked joint leading into the main body of the ship.

 

Yeah, I guess she is sitting off center more like the cockpit... You are probably right.

 

Now Disney will HAVE TO MAKE A STAR WARS FALCON OR X-WING RIDE after this clip!!!!

 

Now that Daisy has appeared in San Diego Comic Con in front of the San Diego Symphony of all places, it is more imperative now that in Episode 8 Kylo chops her up at the end of their inevitable duel. Rey needs to have cybernetic limbs.

Rey, Chewbacca and BB-8 flying off to find Luke

 

Hey if Disney wants to "embrace diversity." then why not? If you truly want to be "equal" when it comes to male vs. female leads, then you should treat them equally. You don't say "well we can cut off Mark's hand, and ALL of Hayden's limbs, and both of Sir Christopher's hands, and David Prowse's hands, and Sam Jackson's arm, and even give Ezra on Rebels facial scars, but not Daisy because, well she's a girl I guess." That would actually be kind of disrespectful to her as well.

 

I am saying that if we can cut off Mark's hand, Hadyen's limbs, Chris, David and Samuel Jackson's hands, then Daisy should have her limbs cut off too. Rey will have her limbs cut off in Episode 8 and receive cybernetics.

 

I know, I'd be all for it.

 

Please stop talking about disfiguring my beautiful Daisy!

Actually, I think Finn will lose his hand in Episode VII in the duel with Kylo...

 

I doubt Finn will square off against Kylo & Daisy's face might get a few scars, this is still a war it's not pretty.

 

Two more opening hypotheses

Rey lives with the desert nomads, led by Max von Sydow's character. Von Sydow's character is the Uncle Owen/Aunt Beru functional equivalent.
She is away scavenging when the attack happens. The desert AT-AT is a base of operations.
She returns to find the desert village destroyed.

Rey lives in the desert AT-AT.
She scavenges for scrap and sells it.
She also knows of the desert nomads and helps them out.
She finds their desert village destroyed.
