Rey's battling against "air" with the lightsaber reminds me of....

I think it looks stupid, to be honest. Both this one and the new ones with Rey. If she was fighting against some kind of flying robot-thing, just like Luke in ANH, it would have been better.

But what is wrong with that? If you're practicing usage of a weapon or any martial art in general, it's not uncommon to not fight against any specific target but make hits "in the air," especially if there's an instructor watching you . That's how every first half of my Aikido used to look like when I attended them during my early primary schools years. We were "battling against air" and only later we would practice in pairs. The same applies for the later years, when we practiced using a katana-shaped wooden stick. First we made blows by ourselves, then against each other. There's nothing stupid in that, it's common practice.

I agree the anakin vs obi wan fight didn't need this "lightfan" sequence, that being said, boxers spend time shadow-boxing for a reason.

Many people always use "this is the Star Wars galaxy and not Earth" argument to me, so I'm going to use this one here. I know that when George came up with the Force and the Jedi he was inspired by Asian martial arts and philosophy, but that doesn't mean that everything in the Star Wars universe should look and function the exact same way as it does on Earth. "Battling against air" may be common here for us, but I've never seen that sort of training in Star Wars before - Never, not even in the old Legends. Jedi training in the OT = training droids. Jedi training in the prequels = training droids. Heck, even in the Jedi Academy games where you learn to be a Jedi they had training droids. To me, Star Wars is both fantasy and science-fiction, and it's obvious that they are trying to be more close to nature with Rey's training. But personally, I just feel it takes away many of the fantastical elements. It just looks like Rey is swinging a glowing stick, not a lightsaber. Show us her cutting some rocks, anything!

For anyone who's hoping Rey turns evil, remember that she is loved by many people, including young girls. Rey resonates with them. Kathleen wanted a female hero this time round. Do you really think they would take Rey and turn her into someone that people hate?

All real world implications aside, they are baiting us so much with the Dark Rey that now I am almost completely convinced that it won't happen. She will struggle with it, yes, as she should, but going dark? I don't think so. Even that last scene in a TV spot is an editing trick, arguably much subtler than Kylo/Rey in the trailer. Luke is down looking up, instead of looking down on him, Rey is looking straight ahead. Unless Luke is lying on a cliff 5+ feet off he ground to be in her eye level, that might be the same time period in the film or continuation of the same scene, but she's not looking at Luke or, if she is, in a completely different context.

Ah, that's sure. If someone asked me to describe Disney's promotion of TLJ in one word i'd say: misdirection. They're pulling all the strings, trying to make people talk about the movie even more (c'mon the main character going dark is a major plot twist, something to talk about). But Rey will not go dark, that's sure. Why? Well, turning to the dark side (or returnig to the light) is a difficult process that needs ton of character development and focus on screen and unless they don't want to have DarkSide!Rey in IX too (unlikely), two movies are too few.

I have one wish for when Rey gets taken captive:

If no one gets told where she's being taken, don't have one character state "It's perfectly obvious where".

I didn't like that she looked like she was swinging a bat. I hope that was at the start or something. Like where luke asked her to show him what she's got.

I just read her survival guide, at least the pages I could find on google. Some things are worded kind of weird, probably ambiguous on purpose... but is it at all possible she's lived on Jakku her entire life? Like born on there and everything. Then when she's a young girl her parents drop her off with Unkar Plutt and leave Jakku?

She says she's lived on Jakku her entire life, but seems to contradict herself the very next sentence by saying she doesn't know how she got here, leading one to maybe assume she's aware that she has lived somewhere else. Unless by "here" she's not referring to an actual place, but the situation she's in. With Unkar Plutt, scavenging to survive.

Also, I have no evidence to back this up, but I've always thought young Rey from the force vision had the appearance of someone who had lived on Jakku her entire life.

When Leia sent Ben off to train with Luke, we don't know where they were living at the time. Were they living on Jakku before they moved the Resistance to D'Qar?

At that time I believe Leia was a senator in the New Republic so she would have been where they had the Senate (Which moved between various planets. Leia only started the Resistance after the event of Bloodline by which time Ben had already been trading with Luke for some time.
