Official Rey Episode VIII thread

mary sue doesn't exactly mean "bad character". I'd like to see her go through some tough moments in the film to be honest. The Musketeer is a prime example of a movie with a bad mary sue character.

 

again, i pointed out earlier, there seems to be some trauma make up on her face in the behind the scenes vid, so she's gonna struggle. plus, the second film usually puts characters through their toughest circumstances, and rian johnson talks about this in interviews, so i have no doubt we won't be hearing much of "rey doesn't face any tough moments therefore she's a mary sue / flat character" anymore.

also, am i the only person who thinks that her struggling was pretty apparent in TFA? like, i know there weren't many physical obstacles for her, but her emotional struggle throughout the film were established early on, especially while she was on jakku, remarkably with no dialogue. she's lonely and refuses her call to adventure from maz, unlike luke who jumps at the chance to become a jedi knight once he has no more ties to tattooine. it took rey the whole movie to go through that.

i think that's pretty genius, but idk, every comment section on the internet seems to disagree. she's driven by her need to belong and to be loved. she's looking for someone to show her her place in all this. it's so fundamental to what makes us the way we are, which is why i think so many people resonate with her.

Whoa that's a biiiiiig claim. I'm not gonna bash you for it, that's your opinion but I am interested as to why? Personally I'm not totally sold on Rey yet, I find her a bit one dimensional at the minute, hopefully the next film will prove me wrong.

But I'd be interested to know your opinion.

 

Leave them alone, let them have there opinion. They are just as entitled to there's just as you are.

 

Listen I'm not stopping anyone from having an opinion I'm just asking why. I'm not slamming anyone, Im genuinely curious. What is the point in only having discussions with people whose opinions match yours? You learn nothing new.

I'd appreciate you not flaming everything I write because you dislike my views. That is not what I am doing.

 

I just think it's a combination of many factors. Daisy for one, she is just great full stop. Also grew up with Hamil as an icon, also the solo twins from the EU. She is exactly like I though Jeana Solo would be. And I'm all for having a good female lead. It's about time for SW.

She beautiful, smart, tough, and I think she will be dripping Jedi mojo by episode 9.
