I'm hoping it's a Force vision through Maz's telepathy abilities. Like Jedis having telekinesis they also have telepathy.

I am willing to bet Luke will be in the film more than 2 seconds people.....?

I wouldn't say a necessity for me although I'm not against the idea either. I take your point though, after thirty years it would help to have some information in order to fill the gap. Personally I would prefer subtle flashbacks to long present dialogues of exposition. These long dialogues of exposition is something that plagues alot of modern films these days and it is so boring. Films aren't that long compared to tv shows so every minute counts, why waste time in that way? One of the beautiful things actually about the original trilogy particularly a new hope is that it mainly got straight into the action with very little exposition needed. It trusted the audience to work things out for themselves and it imbued the story with mystery and intrigue.

I would be happy to see more of a montage, more image based with next to no dialogue for any flashback scenes. It would be more beautiful and powerful that way and at the same time be more open to interpretation. I can imagine it now, slow the footage down a tad, make the imagery more dramatic, more image based like old memories are and in little fleeting moments throughout the film in order to formulate the back story gradually and more meaningfully. That is the way I would do it anyway.

That would at least be a clever way to have a flashback while still incorporating the mythology of Star Wars, you could remove the stigma almost entirely if done correctly

I think both can be used. Flashbacks can be good if done in a unique and interesting way. Better than lengthy dialogues of exposition any day!

The beginning crawl mainly sets up the scene for what is happening at present anyway.

The pessimist in me wants to take that bet, but 5 mins rather than 2 secs. The optimist in me is with you all the way.

Anyone else notice the detail on Kylo's crossguard lightsaber? Specifically the crossguard - it looks like the mini blades extend beneath the metal frame back to the crystal in the hilt. Looks like Steven Colbert was right about the practicalities of this one folks and we can bury that old hatchet.

"Hope is not lost today...it is found"

    ...A New Hope?

The more i think about it it's either meant to paint rey as "the new hope". Or, and i believe this is more likely, they mean "search for luke", i.e. he is found at the end after we lose Han.

The way they say "hope is found" and not "A NEW hope is found" makes me think it has to be a blatant luke reference

It would be amazing if that scene where Rey is crying, she looks up and Luke is standing there

No, it's simply a phonetic adaptation for the Japanese audience. Japanese has no "L" and "C" is the closest they have for a kay sound.

Most likely! haha I was just speculating since a lot of people believe Luke may be present in the scene where Finn and Rey fight Kylo. I'm also kind of leaning towards Luke not actually fighting in this movie so that sort of scenario makes more sense to me :)

If this movie doesn't win every single award for cinematography ever imagined I will eat my hat. When was the last time a movie had so many shots that made people say "wow, that's a gorgeous shot"? Some of these shots are beautiful works of art. The first was that crashed SD shot with Rey's speeder. After I saw that I was thinking "how could they top that?" Then we get that gorgeous opening shot and the tie/sun shot from this new trailer.

That'd be pretty kick ass....hopefully she doesn't get the impression he was just standing there a while as whoever it is she is crying over gets hurt or dies.

And speaking of that MSW outline, what DON'T we know from it so far? How much is in the film that hasn't been reported on do y'all think?

Yeah that would be a little weird, maybe walking towards her would seem a little more authentic

Is kylo using the force to try and keep rey still? she seems to be shaking in a weird way before he brings the sabre down like an invisible force is stopping her.
