ok I know many of you like me felt the 88th Oscars where a joke, and guess what they where, because the following reasons...

1.They made it a racial issue...

2.Un-needed statements made by the host that wasn't needed... Example "We're Black" instead of saying we're back after the commercial.

2.Mad Max winning so many Oscars that other films where more worthy off. Example Star wars TFA got robbed from a freaking storm, because what ever special effects did it have???

I will say the only good thing was Leo winning..

So add your reasons why it was a joke!

Agree with you. But we do know the Academy is sort of political. And at some point it would punish TFA for all the secrecy and no early screens for the critics.

Agree with the racial stuff. At one point it was funny but, to make the whole ceremony about it??

I agree. The story may not have been perfect but it was edited perfectly.

Disney didn't make this movie to get an Oscar. They needed that extra level of privacy to protect the story while everyone else was on Oscar tour campaigns. We got a great story Star Wars fans are gonna remember for a long time.

I do think they were a bit heavy handed on the racially charged subjects. Although I will say, it might be necessary to use the Oscars to promote diversity. If your gonna do it anywhere might as well be in front of all the people who make the movies and do the casting right? And at this point it might be necessary to reiterate the same point over and over again because Hollywood just doesn't get it... I'll let John Oliver explain..

I was surprised ex machina won for visual effects.. I mean it was good but the Martian was my top pick.

I honestly have never cared enough for this "whitewashing" business. The fact of the matter, as Ridley Scott put it in that clip, is that studios and financiers simply WILL NOT FUND a movie that doesn't have name actors. At the end of the day, it has nothing to do with white washing and/or being racist as it has to do with the bottom above-the-line and below-the-line costs in comparison to the realistic ROI + Profit for any and all movies that are professionally released...btw, the "who the f--- is that guy" is actually Joel Edgerton who's been in movies and is pretty much on par with Tom Hardy and he was actually starting off as Uncle Owen in AOTC/ROTS...however what I do get on board with is the fact, if there are talented actors Schutta A-Listers that are Egyptian/close to it then they should be cast as long as it doesn't affect the studio/financiers' bottom lines. It doesn't affect Star Wars because SW can get away with pretty much anything due to what it really is and a movie like Gods of Egypt can't because it's a new property and needs to mKe money over being diverse. I've been guilty of this because my last film, I was literally paid by the state of Oregon to cast "minorities" in a supporting role and my bottom line for the film was money over diversity due to the "first film" "nature" of the film. The bottom line for this post---Hollywood DOES need to be more diverse, but ONLY WHEN possible...otherwise no one wants to see "Person A" and "Person B" in a movie since Hollywood is all about the vanity and the culture which is what general audiences love to see .

Why are you trying to use false information to make a point? Mad Max Fury Road and TFA both lost to Ex Machina for the vfx oscar.
    Did you not know that?

As a regular old member of the viewing public,I do not possess any inside knowledge of how studio's run things in terms of any specific casting do's and do not's that could mean black people or people of any other ethnic group do not get work.

It seems counter-intuitive that they'd be such in that if a movie is a good story solid enough to stand on it's own merits, then it does so (?)

I am not racist in any way,all humans can be equally awesome or terrible in my view with their skin colour being of no import to me.

I like Denzel Washington for his acting talent and craft, same with Morgan Freeman, same with many others whom are all A listers and then even some who are not but cause I like a wide range of types of film, see so many good actors.

If the Academy is not putting forward nominations based on some kind of racial profiling then I condemn that outright,if they are nominating based on talent and quality then GOOD.

If this means no one of non white backgrounds has won much, then perhaps that's just circumstance.

If I am naive in my comments,I apologise in advance and want to note - I am anti-racism 100%.

Best visual effects for Ex Machina? Joke...
Ennio Morricone had no oscar till this one? Joke...
And imo TFA's soundtrack was a lot better than Hateful Eight's. They gave the oscar for probably the least impressive Morricone soundtrack.
Imo all of his previous works were a lot better.

Don't forget hat he oscarshave never been about race but about the talent based on certain performances within the windows of opportunities for the ones that have been cast so the new question would really be that the racism is in the casting and not the awards .

Remember that a lot of indie VFX Houses go bankrupt making the is cars visuals unless they're ILM, ImageWorks and/or WETA Digital .

didn't watch the Oscars, but "We're black" sounds, literally, like a joke. ...har har.

Anyway, do regular people actually care about the Oscars? Isn't it just a bunch of rich, famous people patting each other on the back? Any controversy, to me, is silly because we're talking about disconnected insular Hollywood elites putting on an awards show...for themeselves. I think it shouldn't matter so much to people. Just an opinion. Some people really get into it, I guess. That's cool too.

I posted some of my thoughts regarding TFA and the Oscars over on another thread, but I'll gladly dump the links here:
    https://thecantina.starwarsnewsnet.com/index.php?threads/go-for-r.9183/#post-256897

    https://thecantina.starwarsnewsnet.com/index.php?threads/go-for-r.9183/page-2#post-257486

So, what I saw Sunday night was Star Wars being used like a cheap prostitute to try and draw in viewers (clickbait) but the only "star wars" to walk away withOscars was this one:
    RIIIIIIIP-OOOOOOOOFFFFFFFF!!!!!!!!!!

And this was one of the least watched Oscars ever; that was top headline on Drudge on Monday. So, no one is going to remember the droid skit; they just clicked up the winners on their smartphones for water cooler talk.
And quite frankly the reason we got snubbed IMHO is that Star Wars is not an R-rated franchise. Because the Winners last night were R-rated films except Bridge of Spies, which is a the deep end of PG-13 anyway.(yeah, I know they got some side awards for songs, shorts, foreign, and animation; irrelevant) TFA was not the only "light" PG-13 film to get the finger from the voters: The Martian also walked away empty handed.
And I can't stress enough that Mad Max Fury Road is an R-rated rip-off of ANH/ESB and walked away with FOUR Oscars, three of which it went head to head with TFA and it got a nomination for best picture.. That tells me academy voters are only really interested in R-rated movies; that the supermajoirty of them only bothered to watch the R-rated screeners they got. And yes, I do believe they would be that discriminating:
    http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/li...70625/item/best-picture-oscar-ballot-4-870626

    http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/lists/brutally-honest-oscar-ballot-no-869487

So, I think it's time to make a descision before we go through five more years of pissed off in February. We either do the unthinkable.. and make an anthology film an R-rated "Oscar vehicle" (PUT THE PITCHFORK DOWN! I already know the overwhelming majority of you are against this option.)... OR we acknowledge that the voters who gave Star Wars those Oscars in 1977 and that last one way back in 1980 are not the same primadonnas that we're dealing with today. Time to cut the cord with this Oscar BS and stop giving them respect they probably don't deserve.

Well yeah you're right because his "Oscar Win" has turned into a running joke over the years and the video of him getting his Oscar engraved after the awards ceremony is like all of us on our very first viewing of any SW movie ever :D .
