    Maybe I didn't use the optimal description to convey my thoughts: C-3PO had a neutral face, IMHO perfectly suited for a protocol droid, but it wasn't blank. But you clearly get the idea that this is a droid that means no harm which is somewhat different with the insectoid 'faces'.

    In addition I feel that a blank face - like in the case of PZ-4CO - robs the droid of personality potential which now entirely depends on the voice.

    Thanks for the additional pictures. I really don't want to sound like trying to find fault but those look to me like an actor inside a suit with an empty head added above. Are these rocket boosters attached to its legs?

    I must say that complaining about PZ-4CO being in the movie is like complaining about BB-8 being in the movie.

    Plus none of us have even seen the movie yet... wayyyy too early for this debate.

    New story, new characters.

    My guess is that Threepio has been 'retired' as an active protocol droid and now lives a life of leisure.

    Either that, or PZ is one of several protocol droids assisting Leia. (And he reports to Threepio.)

    We have not seen the movie yet, but we have already seen photos of the spaceships, droids and aliens that will play in it. Certainly it's admissable to discuss these designs and especially if these really have a genuine "OT feel" to them or not.

    Being that c-3po rarely gets a memory wipe maybe a second droid was needed for security reasons, who knows I'm sure it'll make sense. The only thing that would upset me is if he was programmed with a personality like Lando or something.

    Honestly, that never made sense to me. His behavior toward Yoda in particular and his lack of recognition of Obi-Wan didn't demonstrate a whole lot of recollection.

    I feel like most of the personality of the OT droids came from body language and vocal inflection, TBH. It's not like you can really read anything on Threepio and Artoo when they aren't in motion.

    Hmmm... I did not have any impression that he did not recognize Obi-Wan. Totally opposite.

    As for Yoda. Yoda did looked crazy in TESB, and not like his normal self.
    But R2D2 actually did not had any interactions with Yoda in PT.

    R2-D2 literally hid in a crevice when Obi-Wan showed up. And even if he didn't hang out with Yoda (he was present at Polis Massa when Yoda was and accompanied Yoda on his vision quest to learn about being a Force ghost, though), the fact that he was the grand general of the entire Republic forces during the war pretty much guaranteed he saw him in communiques and the Republic equivalent of CNN.

    R2 was instructed to go to Obi Wan on Tatooine by Leia. Threepio thought he was nuts but R2 seemed to know where he was going. Obi Wan is the one that doesn't remember R2. Keep in mind Astromech droids were pretty common but more associated with pilots. Not Jedi.

    Hmm... are we saw the same movie.
    R2D2 has been searching for Obi-Wan on Tatooine. He even knew where he lived.
    It was quite obvious that he knew who he is.

    He knew that Obi-Wan existed and where he lived (which I imagine would have been loaded into his memory when the data tapes were). But when the old guy showed up he was afraid of him. I'm pretty sure the movie I've seen 70+ times is the same one you did. :)

    Obi-Wan just said he NEVER owned a droid and he actually probably never did OWN a droid.

    Also, there were thousands of astromech droids....

    sometimes this debate over the years has me crazy....lol

    Right.
    R2D2 is special to us, but for them he is only one of thousands similar droids.

    But I did not got the impression that Obi-Wan does not remember him.

    I didn't get the impression Obi-Wan forgot Artoo, either. But I watched the movie again just three days ago and I got the distinct impression Artoo had no idea who Obi-Wan was...otherwise Obi-Wan would not have had to reassure Artoo that he shouldn't be afraid and that Obi-Wan wouldn't hurt him.

    Also, Yoda.

    Because the last time he saw Obi-Wan was 20 years ago. And Obi-Wan did looked different.
