I've seen TFA four times in theaters and it's one of the greatest movies ever.

JJ managed to create a movie for old and young people, with loveable characters that you care about from their first scenes, with great pace. I'm in love with Rey, Kylo and Finn. They are my friends and I want them to succeed in whatever they will undertake in the next one.

Sure - TFA has is flaws. It's by no means no Godfather, Shawshank redemption etc scriptwise. But it's Star Wars - it has it's own merits. It's good fun, I just love it. It's everything ep 1-3 were not and I can't wait to see it again.

If you don't like this movie - then Star Wars may not be for you. Simple as that. I'm turning 38 next year and I feel like 10 again.

So if you don't like this film that means you don't "get" star wars?

Why don't you arrange a PT marathon at home? Chances are you will be eating your pop corns alone.

I love TFA. Is that a weak argument for defending it?

How is Star Wars not for me if i like 4,5,6, Star Wars : Rebels, Genndy Tartakovsky's Clone Wars, the Kotor games some eu books and other Star Wars videos games.
Sort of a fail of logic.

$4 billion and they remake ANH!
    That is insane.
When JJ and LK were rushing the script do you think they stopped for a moment and thought that it might be a ridiculous thing to do?!

It was a messy film with so many things that didn't make sense or weren't properly explained. And the ending was just plain dull.

guess i missed that plot line in ANH where a stormtrooper turns on the empire, picks up a lightsabre and begins killing his former comrades in the hope of returning a map to find a lost jedi. I think i also missed the part where the empire created the death star to wipe out the ruling government. ooohhhhh wait.

From the man who said those who like this must have poor film taste.

People are desperate to bash this movie that their arguments are so weak.

    Desert planet.
    Info hidden in droid.
Evil empire kills villagers looking for info.
    Heroes escape in millennium falcon
Heroes look to get info to Princess Leia
    Heroes escape from empire
Heroes go to rebel base on yavin 2.0.
Heroes launch attack on Death Star 3.0.
Hero pilots fly down trench and blow it up.
Mentor hero killed by dark lord.
    Heroes welcomed home.

That's essentially what happened with a few additional stories and characters. But because extra stuff was going on it made the ending messy and there was no climax.

Forgot to add: Death Star 3.0 blows up planet loyal to resistance.

Bla, bla, bla. The plot of ep IV isn't unique and GL would be the first admitting it. Parts of the ROTJ-script (by Kasdan) was a mess. But they were good films, I love them. You could say TFA is like poetry - so it rhymes, but with a twist. The movie is fun to watch, and has likeable characters. What more do you want from a Star Wars movie?

@master_shaitan; It is a little ridiculous to think that a slightly more unique plot was not developed. I believe Disney was hesitant to be bold, because doing so is what caused most of the backlash on the prequels. It was the first film without George Lucas at the helm, and I think both Disney and J.J. Abrams decided they needed to tip-toe into this. A familiar plot, familiar characters, planets that feel all too similar. I think they were trying to make us feel like we came home, without telling us we came home. (i.e. new planets)

    I think you're right.
But that's a big mistake in my view.
It means we don't get a true continuation, it becomes predictable and thus no where near as thrilling and, well in my book, feels like we have been sold short.

I truly believed TFA was going to be up there with Empire. It had everything a filmmaker would want in producing a original story that is backed up by 40yrs of Star Wars lore and history. For me it felt like a re-run of ANH with any of the new scenes feeling like tacked on cool ideas. It didn't flow. It got messy. No brilliant, thrilling ending.

With the PT, Lucas certainly repeated themes and scenes but the plot for each take was different. They felt like different movies, story wise and aesthetically.

I guess at the heart of my problem with TFA was that I was bored by it. There was nothing really that new in the story. That and CGI Snoke.

@master_shaitan; I'm hoping we see something a little more unique in Episode VIII. I'm hoping this was their way of not rocking the boat, but that they will take more risks with the second film. I hope.

Definitely. And I think it will be. Johnson is a far more original filmmaker than JJ.

I don't think they are inferring you don't get SW. But if you don't like TFA then maybe the space adventure, punctuated with humor that transports you to another world isn't for you, even if you get it.

Every SW movie had its eye rolling moments (I still can't get over the opening battle of ANH where R2 and C3PO just walk through a hallway filled with blaster fire), but they still capture our imaginations. I personally think TFA has that same secret sauce.

I think some of us now that we're much older, can look at these movies with a much more critical eye (nothing wrong with getting older and wiser) and are getting upset with flaws that have always been in Star Wars movies. These new movies don't have the benefit of childhood nostalgia and given the state of special effects today (which ANH started the race towards), we're not going to get something so visually revolutionary that it can hide other weak points.

Those of us that want to be movie critics instead of enjoying the chance to have a glimpse back into the SW universe may not enjoy the new movies. And if so, as the poster said, maybe Star Wars isn't for you.

That's not an insult or a criticism, and it's OK if some of us have outgrown Star Wars. We'll always have the OT right?
