RUMOR R2D2: What do we know?

    So what do we know about R2D2? Where is he during the entire movie?

    We have seen a scene in the trailer with Luke perhaps? Where are they?

    Also interesting is this:

    That's the same location as the one seen in the trailer. Notice the round stones on the floor. Again, where is this? Is that Luke behind R2D2? Whos human hand sticking out of R2D2?

    This has been shot during the day, does it mean there are more scenes with these two characters on this location?

    That's a right hand seen and Luke's right hand is the one that was replaced in Empire, but it's probably the same scene being shot that was seen in the teaser and the hand will be animated.

    What about the fact that it is being shot during daytime?
    Maybe they are just rehearsing, or they could digitally turn it into night? Lower the exposure of the camera and tweak it in post?

    These two shots are reversed though... in the first, the cloaked figure is on R2's right, while in the teaser he is on R2's left. I know they can reverse the image, but then "Luke's" hand would be backwards and the surroundings would be reversed as well. So either this was rehearsal, or shooting a different scene or sequence.

    If you look closely during the trailer, there are weird green formations to the left of the screen in the background. This picture seems to be from the opposite angle as the image from the trailer, and the round rocks are also not present in the trailer. I like the theory that R2 and this mysterious figure, most likely Luke, will be seen in many locations throughout the movie

    The behind the scenes photo isn't reversed. Check out the Tiffani Thiessen shirt that one guy is wearing. It's a very popular shirt nowadays and it's the correct orientation.
    If the shot in the trailer was reversed, then "Luke" would have a left robotic hand. Maybe they messed up in the set and decided to invert it later. I'm reading too much into this... hahaha

    It wouldn't surprise me if the giant round rocks were CGI.

    Some things I noticed:

    The red book is the script.

    The stage has a double floor(Like in the Dagobah set)

    You can see a hut from the village behind the camera.

    White building in the background = filmed in London near/at the Pinewood Studios.(There are no green tress in the desert they are also wearing normal cloths nothing like in the Abu Dhabi pictures.)

    You can see the hand of Rose(?) hence it is practical.

    I meant that they could potentially reverse it in post, but that probably wouldn't work because the hand would be reversed and because of the slope of the ground, which seems more pronounced in the first image (but it would then be sloping in the same direction...)

    Could that be a different set? The sand seems to have a different color too.

    Rose is being portrayed by a black woman. She wouldn't have a white hand. It's Luke there with R2 for sure.
    And regarding which side of R2 he's on. They could have tried different positions for Luke to kneel down at.

    I think they may have horizontally flipped this image in post. Look at the way artoo is standing in the set photo and then the one from the teaser. Of course, they could have decided it didn't work and reset moving artoo and luke, but if we think the set photo is exactly when they shot the shot in the teaser...

    EDIT: After further inspection I don't think they flipped it in post. Must have been a test shot in the set photo. Doesn't line up with the one from the teaser

    The behind the scene picture and the scene in the trailer are too different imo.
    - The position of the characters is different
    - Time of day is different
    - There doesn't seem to be any light source from the fire/lava whatever it is

    I think maybe they are rehearsing. But would they rehearse with so many people? And why not shoot during the night? I think it has been mentioned before that they have shot scenes during the night at pinewood.

    The weathering on Artoo's 'left' side looks to be the same in both pics, so in all likelihood not reversed?

    Yeah, the 'spiked' huts are from the village massacre scene, aren't they? Someone posted a good pic illustrating this but I can't find it.

    Not to say this R2/Robed figure scene can't be happening in the same place as that scene.
