Having said all this Sabine was born 21yrd bby making her birthday just before fall of the republic and we'll after Kenobi became a proper Jedi knight. So Sabine would have to be his granddaughter and Rey is great granddaughter!

It could be as simple as Rey being both, Luke's daughter and Obi Wan's granddaughter. They can easily spin it as Obi Wan had a daughter, Luke found out and they had a child together, Rey Skywalker-Kenobi

Aw man... well I suppose that still could be the case. But in the "grand" scheme of things (see what I did there? ;) ) it seems easier for Obi-Wan to just be her grandfather... great-grandfather just seems a little too disconnected, at least for my liking.

    EDIT:
Wait... Unless I am missing something I think this still works. If Sabine was born 21 yrs BBY, and Rey was born about 15 yrs ABY (according to Wookieepedia), then that means Sabine would have only been 36 years old when she had Rey, which is totally plausible.

It's more that Kenobi would've been a Jedi knight not just a Palawan when he fathered her. I could accept him conceiving a child whilst he was a reckless Palawan but not when he was a fully fledged Jedi knight.

Edit: Padawan! Autocorrect doesn't like the PT.

Ahhh okay I understand, I thought you meant the age didn't quite add up. Then in that case I would have to agree with you on that point.

That sounds too "out-there" because of the amount of explanation needed for that and, with all of the added explanation, the saga will turn into a kenobi one instead of about the skywalkers

    okay so timeline wise-

apparently Rey was born 15 year After the Battle of Yavin.

and the clone wars took place between 19-22 years before the battle of yavin. So, If Kenobi had a relationship with this Duchess Satine I suppose that would about check out for their kids to be 37 when they had Rey. that's re-assuring I suppose if your in the Rey Kenobi camp.

However doesn't it also mean that: If your in the Rey Skywalker camp, that Rey would have been conceived and born within the time period Ben/Kylo was training with Luke as apparently he destroyed the Jedi sometime between 28-34 After the Battle of Yavin but he'd been training with Luke since he himself was a kid.

I guess that would add weight to the 'What Girl?' line Kylo says in the film, as Kylo Ren would at least be aware of Lukes daughter especially if Luke was full time training the new Jedi. I mean, actually since Kylo Ren seems to think attachments to family make you weaker, it could actually be the very fact that Luke did fall in love and have a child that made Kylo despise him. It's not the Jedi way and it completely ousts Kylo Ren as Vader's heir if Luke has a child. Uhg, if I think of it from that point of view its actually not a bad twist. if Rey's birth was one of the factors that lead Kylo to the darkside that's actually a good story line, and it would echo some fans upset at Luke breaking the code. And Kylo Ren does represent the entitled fan in many ways, so it would suit him to get upset over Luke having a kid or falling in love.

If it is so, it is also interesting that Kylo didn't reveal this information to Snoke.
and it also means that he could be the one to break the news to Rey in the next film (ala empire strikes back)

    Hmmm.

Ben would be ten at the time of Rey's birth, thats just about when he would have been training with Luke I think.

lots to think about I think.

How does Obi-Wan having a grandniece require any more explanation than any other theory? Obi-Wan had a sibling. Rey is the granddaughter of that sibling. It's about as streamlined as any theory out there. Plus, they could flesh out his family in the rumored Kenobi standalone.

Well, this thread is specifically about how Rey might be a Kenobi.

Very well thought out. That makes a lot of sense, I actually like this more and more now that I think about it! The fact that Rey would then be of Kenobi and Skywalker blood..... mind =(epic fail)

So with this train of thought...
A Jedi breaks the Jedi code and:
    Obi-Wan + Satine = Sabine. Then...
A Jedi breaks the Jedi code and:
    Sabine + Luke = Rey

Something happens where Luke gets split up from Rey, whether by choice or not. He is off starting his own school of Jedi and training Ben, who begins to form his own opinion of how the Jedi should live, and its much more black and white than this "grey area" that Obi-Wan (his namesake, by the way) and Luke had waded into. Ben isn't digging that Luke isn't necessarily practicing what he preaches, or that Luke has decided to stray from the train of thought that Jedi should avoid attachment. Then, he finds out his grandfather was Darth Vader. But before that, he was Anakin, a Jedi who broke the Jedi code....

No wonder Ben is "being torn apart." He's been fed nerf-dung and known nothing but lies his entire life.

But, like you mentioned, Ren didn't tell Snoke about Rey. At least, not yet. Which tells me he hasn't fully bought into Snoke yet, and may never. Which to me still leaves the door open for a #SaveBenSolo moment.

    Anyways. Rey Skywalker-Kenobi! I'm buying it. :D

They could always pull a "Darth Vader" and say he didn't know/thought they were dead, depending on how things with Satine (assuming she'd be the baby-mama) worked out. Or simply that he pulled a Jedi "no attachments" and forsook his family for the greater mission (with the unintentional irony that his family becomes the greater mission with Rey).

Possible, but unfortunately not probable. Sabine is "space Asian" while Satine and Obi-Wan...aren't. Sabine's mother was also in Death Watch, a group Satine vehemently opposed. And the creators themselves nixed this idea before the show even started...but hold out hope! There's probably a Obi/Satine kid running out there somewhere!

Definitely possible! The problem with Obi-Wan and Satine is that there were technically two times for them to have a child. The first being on the year-long mission (which took place anywhere from right before TPM to a couple years before) or during the Clone Wars, during the time skip (I mean, if Padme can hide her pregnancy for nine months and her marriage for three years, I'm sure Satine could have hid a child off somewhere), making the child not too much older than Luke. Both cases work with Kenobi being the grandparent, just one version would be...significantly older...

I honestly don't think the Satine thing will fly. It just seems like too much of a stretch that:

    (a) they'd retroactively make a cartoon character (whom most cinema goers don't know about) that important, and
    (b) that Satine would hide it from Obi-Wan even in death.

And it really doesn't work without at least one parent being in the films, to be honest. Otherwise there are too many unanswered questions, and we need a prequel trilogy for the sequel trilogy!

As I mentioned in my post in Rey discussion (it's on page 45,) I believe that Rey's parents are best not to be revealed. Any reveal would most likely be a fan service and wouldn't bring much to the story. The same applies for the Obi-wan & Satine theory. These two names don't mean anything to Rey and such a reveal wouldn't add much to her character at all, even if they are a Jedi Master and leader of Mandalore. They weren't able to meet her (maybe except for Obi-wan, if you consider his only sentence spoken to her via a Force vision a meeting,) their legacy was mostly buried by either Clone Wars or the Empire and lastly - Rey has no clue who these people were.

Don't get me wrong, Ben Kenobi is definitely going to play some role in this trilogy - he's after all one of only four people in the entire Galaxy's history who were able to transcend death, so he's more likely than not to appear for at least a moment in from of Rey and Luke. I'm doubtful that he'll do anything more, though.

This is the first I have heard of this connection, but the pieces fall in to place very well. The fact that Satine was a mandolorian as well as Sabine was just a coincidence at first. When you add the fact that Obi-wan loved Satine and the timeline would fit almost perfectly, it becomes more that coincidence. I guess we will have to wait and see what happens in rebels. Maybe Sabine will get killed off and this whole theory will vanish into thin air.

I feel that an Anakin & Padme -> Luke; Obi-Wan & Satine -> Sabine; Luke & Sabine -> Rey connection would make the GFFA a very small place.

True! But not if you consider that Sabine could be force sensitive, or otherwise has some knowledge relating back to Obi-Wan that Luke would be interested in learning about. In a galaxy as big as the GFFA, for two people like Luke and Sabine to meet like that all you need is a common connection, which you would have in Obi-Wan.

I thought this as well. Rather than put the rendezvous in Obi's padawan days why not off camera during the Clone Wars. I believe that there were two trips to Mandalore in the show. They indulge themselves on the first trip. She hides it to protect his reputation and because her life is in danger. So she sends the girl to live with her sister who she swears to secrecy. Their daughter would be Sabine's age by Rebels time. Sabine then goes on to have a child. If she has a child with Ezra then there is a usefulness to Ezra's name beung Bridger.

But is this obvious as Daisy said. Ezra was also abandoned on a planet by parents and he has a thing for helmets. Not unlike the rebel pilot helmet.

I was just watching Collider Movie Talk. They are claiming that the next episode of rebels gives "kenobi lineage a lot more credence"

    Yes, because of this:

Dark Side Secrets - Visions and Voices Episode Preview | Star Wars Rebels (a short excerpt from the new Rebels episode they say they have watched already.)

Darth Maul killed Duchess Satine Kryze who we know was the love of Obi-Wan's life. This was shown in the Clone Wars animated series. It is indeed very interesting that Lucasfilm are making a point of bringing Satine back into the canon memory so to speak. Very interesting indeed and personally doesn't surprise me at all.

They get rebels episodes early so they've already seen this episode. Something seems to occur, beyond just a picture, that swayed them in one direction though.

I already clicked the Great Post icon, but I wanted to reiterate that this is a great post. Rey is a kind of remixed echo chamber of OT previous SW protagonists, so you can make several different convincing arguments for her lineage just by emphasizing certain echoes.

Personally, I think making her a Kenobi is the most interesting choice, since it centers the saga as a dual-family cycle of master/apprentice redemption, which is more complex IMO, but if we take Daisy's recent comments that she felt her lineage was on display in TFA, this really narrows it down to two options: Either she's Luke's daughter (e.g. Maz's comments about the saber belong to Vader, Luke, now it calls to you), or she's just an orphan and we'll never know her parents (Maz's comment about how the family that matters is the family she chooses).

Having said that, given all the ambiguities of TFA, Rian Johnson can really do whatever he wants and retrofit in character backstories without too much trouble. I'll be good with whatever he decides.
