    Exactly! It's some way like with Finn, that we don't know his real name - if he actually had any given by his biological parents - but we certainly do not care that much as with Rey based on all our theories. But anyhow, it is fun speculating!

    I don't think it's Rey. Simply because the Rebel helmet she wears in TFA belonged to Captain Dosmit Raeh.

    'Rey' says and I quote from her survival guide:

    "When I was a kid, I liked to make up stories about Captain Ræh—about who she was and what planet she might have come from."

    I believe she just took the name as an identity when she met FN-2187 (Finn) because of her fascination with her.

    Rey may not be her real name but she has been going by Rey before she met Finn. In Before the Awakening she is Rey. She did not just make it up on the spot when she made Finn. The thought of her getting the name from the helmet is a good thought but I think she adopts that name much earlier then In TFA

    If Rey is her real name it is short for something else. In Before the Awakening it says "a young women who calls herself Rey." That implies either it is not her real name or it is short for something else and she chooses to go by Rey.

    Does Unkar says her name? In my likely incorrect memory of the movie, he just calls her "the girl". Or do only people (and droids) that she meets during the movie (BB-8, Finn, Han, etc.) call her Rey.
