Are you seriously calling people racist because they don't ship the same thing you do? Oh dear...

Is it possible that perhaps, just perhaps, other people didn't see romantic chemistry in the relationship they presented? And I doubt a Zac Efron (?!) in the role would affect that.

I think there are people who look down on Boyega and Isaac's prospects because they aren't white and abusive enough.

White hero + Black hero = racist backlash
White hero + Latino hero = racist backlash
White hero + White villain - murderer, stalker, and abuser = tumblr approves / degenerate 'Reylos'
White hero stays single = like a traditional Jedi

What the degenerate 'Reylos' want is make the other male characters - besides Kylo Ren - gay to clear the deck, and for Rey not to be related to Kylo Ren, because for some of them incest is a bridge too far but all the other attributes that make Kylo Ren the "creature" and "monster" that he is are not.

And again with the 'throwing out wild racism accusations'...have any evidence on that? I mean, people could just as easily say 'well, people who ship Finn/Rey are homophobes because they don't want Finn and Poe together', no? Any evidence against that?

Or maybe people just have individual preferences on ships that have little to do with race or gender and shouldn't be baselessly accused.

I now find great satisfaction that in the poll options in this thread there is no option for Rey with Kylo. The satisfaction will increase exponentially around December 2017 (or earlier if/when we have the plot leaked). It will be great to revisit this thread and the posts and see what we all feel about all of this then...

Until then, people should just chill and have an open mind and more importantly respect that at this point anybody has as much right to intelligently speculate in whichever direction seems possible/probable with what we have at present and try to be respectful and as well behaved as possible. If some can't play nice with the other kids just maybe they should stay and play by themselves and their collection of action figure toys and/or other imaginary friends...

    Such hubris.

I should think there won't be any discussion if this scenario comes about, everyone will know that VIII's jumped the shark then.

You know what. I really don't care at all who the romance is with or if there will be any romance at all...As soon as they give me a well-executed story that engages me with the characters and moves me and exhilarates me and makes me as excited as I'm now that we are getting new SW movies, I'm perfectly fine with whatever decision there is. As soon as (and if there is romance) it makes sense for the story, it offers interesting angle to it and enriches it. That's my only requirement.
To me with what I know of storytelling and SW, and with what I think is already possibly set up I have my preference just because I think it would contribute to the story, but if something entirely else ends up being shown which is convincing, compelling, powerful and engages me, I'll be perfectly fine with it.
The headcanon will automatically adjust and I'll be perfectly happy with whatever they decide to do as soon as it's told well and has meaning for the story. That's the only prerequisite really regardless of my current headcanon preference.

I just think people should keep an open mind especially there are so many unknown elements at present of a story that has only just began and is merely 1/3 only told. People should just chill, instead of getting angry that their headcanons are not happening and not take offence that other people have their own different interpretations.

And to put a bit of a humorous twist to this, here is what I think is already/or very soon will be happening with many of the possible "romance pairings" and other various fan theories and speculations, and that is completely fine and people should just keep calm about it even if a theory or speculation of theirs was shot down and doesn't pan out...
Common, Boyega literally said there was no romance set up between Finn and Rey a day or two ago, and Hidalgo said that Snoke is not Plagueis and there are still people who don't believe it...

I said it looks kind of suspicious. If you look at the whole #BoycottStarWars thing and the fact that Finn is clearly shown to be attracted to Rey, anybody with eyes can clearly see that it does indeed look kind of suspicious. The main male character usually enters a relationship with the main female character, provided they are not related as we saw in the original Star Wars trilogy. This is a trope that has existed probably as long as movies have existed.

Also, if you felt I implied that all people that want a gay romance with Finn are racist, I apologize. For the record, I don't think that everyone that wants this is racist. Given the two reasons I provided above you should see why it gives some people pause and reading other comments here and on other sites, I'm not the only one that had this reaction.

I don't take any of this romance stuff seriously, the three options I selected on the poll were Maz and Chewie; Ackbar and Leia; Rey and Unknown Female lead. It would be a mistake to think that I have a favoured couple. The only reason I occasionally post in this thread is for humorous reasons and mockery.

The only "pairing" that I will object to is "Reylo" on the basis of its implications on Kylo's redemption and the shear zealotry of its supporters who have posted some pretty weird stuff. Honestly, I have bigger fears for the ST: ESB clones; Luke dying at the end of IX; Lone Jedi repeat; Rebels vs Empire rehash; Generally repeating the OT in some sort of weird homage.

However, "Reylo" will be a good indication to me if this whole project's going off the deep end. I've forgiven many of TFA flaws in lieu of it being the first of a trilogy but I think seeing VIII will allow me to make an overall judgement on the trilogy.

I know and I enjoy/appreciate your humor man. It shows that you are not taking it seriously, which is the healthy thing to do...as I am too.

But what you say also sounds awfully pessimistic. Keep an open mind! All the SW movies (including the OT) have flaws. And that is fine. But they also have a lot of other wonderful stuff which totally makes you forgive the little inevitable flaws...
Just keep an open mind and don't hold on too much on preconceived expectations...you might be surprised that against your present expectation something you think unthinkable, might really and actually work. I agree, some of the stuff on Tumblr from the so-called Reylo crowd sometimes borders on (or sometimes is beyond) the ludicrous and I don't take it at all seriously...But just because a bunch of silly people approve of a possibility, doesn't and should not invalidate the possibility itself...

So if you are offered a good story, which is told well, keep an open mind, don't give up on it and have faith...

I'm so sorry to see some SW fans on the boards pronouncing that unless things evolve/develop their own headcanon way they are done with SW...
    And are basically like this:

Just keep an open mind and you might be surprised that it might actually work out very well...I have a good feeling about this...:)

I honestly think it will be hard with Rey having a relationship like that if she goes the whole training with Luke way. Not that it wouldn't happen at some point, just the timing. If you think about it too, Luke was attracted to Princess Leia in the first Star Wars movie the "She's beautiful" "I care" . Not just because she was his twin sister (it probably wasn't even a thought then, or maybe just make it a possibility later on in a choose your own adventure type deal), then went off training with Yoda. We just have to wait and see how the story goes. Patience young padawans.

I don't really care if Finn and Rey become a couple, whatever serves the story better.

But I do side-eye the people who are clamoring for Reylo. Pairing Rey with someone who murdered all of his classmates and then killed Han Solo and shows indications that he's going further into the dark side is an odd choice that I don't see Disney doing. Kylo Ren being even more obsessed with her in Episode 8 I can see, but Rey falling in love with him would send a really wrong message to young girls (and boys). Disney's gone out of their way to make sure Rey's a role model for young women, for her to "reward" Kylo's behavior with love and then redeem him would be some CW Network BS. Also I just want to say that I KNEW Kylo Ren would have fangirls that would look past and minimize all of his flaws the moment he took off his helmet.

    Yeah.

(video is private, from White House summit gender bias in toys and media - April 2016)

    Kids are awed by Rey:

Mark Hamill's opinion: "They're fantasies meant for children. Children of all ages of course but because they are that they aren't meant to address adult sexuality specifically."

Whaaaat? Hold on. Whatever romance develops in VIII -- Rey + Kylo [scratch that, Rey + Ben Solo], Rey + Finn, Finn + Poe -- whatever romance it is, it'll be something that was planned from the start, is part of the fabric of the ST story, and will make sense when we see it. If you're saying the Tumblr shippers would drive this thing off a cliff, I sure won't argue with that, haha.. But Lucasfilm is doing this their way, and I believe they'll do it right.
Yep. Even a broken clock is right twice a day. Hahah...
Yep, those are the people we're talking about. Maybe for our purposes here, we should be more careful to differentiate between "Rey + Kylo" and "Rey + Ben Solo" - because there's a difference. Would you agree?

i know there are a lot of strange and "clamorous" Reylo fanatics out there (some of them disturb me too even though i don't necessarily have any problem with Reylo personally).
there's precedence for heroes and villains to fall in love.
there's also the fact that i believe most people who can see Reylo being a potentiality are not suggesting that Rey fall in love with a psychotic murderer ~ that any romance would absolutely necessitate Ren to get this shoebuttons together and figure it out (for which there is also precedence).

i totally get why people freak out about Reylo.
i also think Reylo does not need to be the horroshow that people are making it out to be.

i also find the implication that people would rather Rey end up with a murderer than go with Finn to be grossly offensive.

this is Star Wars ~ at the end of the day if there's romance between anybody, power to it.
if you're insulting people or calling them degenerate for having an opinion or playing along with a fairy tale, i agree with @Obi-Wan Solo: you might need to check your sense of proportion/propriety/humor at the door.

Who are these heroes and villains that have fallen in love and not been one-sided attraction? I'm genuinely curious because I know that it's a trope but at this point I can't think of a time when this has happened? I don't mean a redeemed villain but a hero and villain actually falling in love. Are there any examples of this in the EU?

Is that not what people are saying when they're shipping Reylo?

Anyhow, I don't think Finn and Rey will get together in the following films. She called him "friend" at the end of TFA and while in real life, that would't mean much of anything in terms of future romantic prospects, within a movie where every piece of dialogue is planned, I think that was a way for the writers to indicate that Finn and Rey won't become romantic later on.

Revan and Bastilla Shan? Revan gets redeemed eventually, but not until after they're already in pretty deep. and that relationship is fraught with problems, but it works and it's a fairly popular story out of the KOTOR.

i agree most of the tropes for this sort of thing are one-sided until the villain is redeemed. that's a story older than dirt (so why it offends people now is just silly). i understand about role modeling and whatnot, but this is a space fairy tale. if you let your children watch Beauty and the Beast or Phantom of the Opera and provide guidance, you can do it for Star Wars too. like Anakin and Padme really sets some kind of high bar? talk about problematic. at least people rooting for Rey and Ben Solo are rooting for a happy relationship that doesn't end up with Rey pregnant and dead ~ hahaha.

i don't think people wanting Rey to go with Kylo Ren or Ben Solo are making a deliberate choice against Finn (let alone against Finn because he's not white).
that's really messed up if that's true for anybody.
i've certainly never seen anyone on the Cantina express such a thought.

Adding to what @FN-3263827 already said about how "that's a story older than dirt" and there are numerous famous examples, here is another example from a Lucasfilm movie based on a story and screenplay by George Lucas himself - "Willow" (1988) where Madmartigan and Sorsha fall in love and it's basically a story of softly redeeming a character who starts off as villain (Sorsha) but who switches sides and joins the "good guys" to fight together alongside Madmartigan who she joins as she has fallen in love with him...
Sorsha was on the hunt for a baby, to get it to her evil mother to kill it.
While the movie is meant for a younger audience than that of Star Wars the implications that she is a villain who is in service of evil is there. Sorsha got to question her allegiance and her assistance to the evil queen (her mother) and her regime and she ends up betraying her evil mother switching sides to join the good side as she had fallen in love with Madmartigan, who is sort of a Han Solo type (at first a cynical unwilling helper turned warrior-hero).
There you go two scenes from the movie which while not set in space is a Lucasfilm fairytale nonetheless...
