With Rian Johnson behind the camera, who said multiple times that he really like the prequels, its almost a "must".

I would be really disappointed if that wont happen.

Ummm, apparently Liea NOT telling Ben solo helped to push him to the dark side. So, yeah, honesty is the best policy

My preference would be for Luke to give Rey lots of info - but not on-screen. It makes sense that Rey might need or want to know more about the past, especially after her "Force Flashback," but there is no need to waste screen time on things we already know. All they have to do is give Luke some lines like "Remember what I told you about _____ " (or similar lines for Rey).

See? This guy gets it. Don't waste onscreen time with exposition we as the audience already know. Just convey with a few lines of dialogue that it was discussed offscreen

All he really has to say about the PT, is the same stuff that Obi-wan said in Jedi. No need to get too deep into it.

We will get the PT nods when Hayden comes to Kylo as a ghost.

I think he will because of the circumstances
Yoda and Obi-Wan trained him. Maybe there is a possibility Yoda won't be mentioned
Obi-Wan spoke to Rey in her vision
Anaikin was so important in Luke's life and also important to Kylo
Also, I expect force ghosts to appear before Luke and Rey

I just learned that RJ is a prequel fan, so we might get some things from the PT in good taste. No need for worry...

I'm a bit late here, but I say that Luke should mention certain elements of the PT to Rey. Particularly, the prophecy of the Chosen One (and its fulfillment) and the flaws of the Jedi Order. Maybe he could even mention Qui-Gon. I just don't want the new movies to ignore the prequels and their existence, and I don't think they will.

I think he should since Obi Wan give him a preview of his time with his dad back in the good old days then his downfall so Rey may already know bits of this but might enjoy the listen.

In a novel a chunk of backstory or a tale within a tale might be great. But I think it would be wiser for the idea to be that she has been taught many things and relevant things will be mentioned. There is no need for a history lesson on screen. Though holocron footage or a forceback might be fun.

Remember the true story of what happened might die with the witnesses I see Palps as heavy on revisionist propaganda.

I think this idea is probably the most likely. I bet Rey and Luke will fall to talking about Han, like Obi remembering Anakin in ANH. then she'll ask about Kylo Ren and his place in things*. Then we'll get Luke's "point of view" response which will go on to be upset by Kylo Ren during a confrontation between him and Rey.

    It's a guess, anyway (ackbar)

    * does Rey know that Kylo Ren is Ben Solo at the end of TFA? Or is she like Poe and doesn't know? Or wait... does Poe know? He doesn't, unless I'm mistaken?

To follow up, I don't know if Luke will bring up PT stuff on screen; I kinda doubt it. Exposition chat scenes will probably be about Kylo and Luke's recent history, while PT stuff may be reserved for off screen times later alluded to.

    Obi-Wan: Kill Vader.
Luke: I can't kill my own father.

    Luke: Ben must be saved.
Rey: I don't care if we're related! Ren must die!

    Something familiar yet slightly different.

Star Wars is essentially one big movie. First rule of screenwriting is to not repeat that which the audience already knows. We're not going to get a Star Wars history lesson. The only thing I can really see happening is nuggets of information cropping up in Kylo Ren's backstory, as told by Luke. For instance, he might mention how Vader was redeemed by compassion but that Ren dismisses this and thinks it a weakness. But we're not going to hear about how Anakin fell to the Dark Side on screen.

That's an awful lot of exposition to be delivered within the frame of the movie. We also don't know if it's necessary during the film to elaborate on backstory that may not be inherent to Rey's story and growth. The story needs to explore Luke's Jedi, the history of the First Jedi Temple, and whatever may be critical to those storylines, if the prequels and its beats fit that narrative, then absolutely. But if not, then we don't need the fat.

1/2 this movie is most likely a history lesson since JJ gave us almost no answers.

For more than 20 years we had little idea about the Clone Wars, how the Emperor rose to power and how Obi could say from "a certain point of view" Darth Vader murdered Anakin Skywalker. Yet the stories of the OT required no full accounting to be entertaining and compelling.

Even with the exposition light history of ANH there was little exposition. I mean Yoda could have spent 3 minutes to give a proper accounting. Even the chat with Obi in ROTJ an extended backstory exposition was only necessary because they had changed the story and they needed to establish Obi as a decent guy again, and create the great question of Luke's destiny confront and kill Vader or cultivate the cold embers of the good which remained in him.

The OPs question is a little too open ended for a simple yes or no in my opinion.

The only thing I'll definitely say yes to is Luke telling Rey about Anakin.

The rest I don't think we're going to get any exposition on, especially the PT. Yoda or Obi-Wan might get name dropped but thats it. They wont drag the movie down in order to catch up the audience and what we already know. Save that for the novelization or imply it offscreen.
