I highly doubt Luke will tell Rey about everything.... instead, in the tradition of his mentor, Yoda, he will show her. This also makes more sense for us, the audience. I suspect that any history lesson she gets will be very similar to what the Force has already shown her: She will either get an advanced "Forceback" that expands what she was shown by the lightsaber, or Luke will conjure for her something similar to what he was shown as a sort of test in the Force cave on Dagobah.

As for what Rey will be shown, I doubt it will be a full PT era history lesson. Rather, I think she will be shown what she needs to understand about her own past, and that of Kylo Ren. Luke can then highlight the fact that Kylo Ren has gone down a similar path as his grandfather and that he can still be brought back and redeemed. Very simple dialogue to follow what she is shown by "Forceback" or Dagobah-force-cave-like test.

At least this is what I would like to see, right before the Rocky III style training montage... :p

I think there should be a mention, but he shouldn't spend too much time reliving the past. There's training to focus on hahah

Rey: Did you think Leia was hot in her help me hologram?

Luke: I didn't know she was my sister!

Rey: Is Leia a good kisser!?

    Luke: Get off my island!

Yep, I hope she pulls the ''I'm not afraid'' quote with him saying back ''As a wise jedi once said, ''you will be''.

it does remind you, well remind me of ESB. everything so similar to the OT. Its like what would the OT look like now with the CG and tech they have for SW films now. I think Luke does mention them since Rey already has a force vision and hears their voices in TFA. im playing The Force Unleased, took a break. never played it on 360 and now so glad they got it on XBox1

Luke should hand Rey a Blu Ray set, a few antacids, and a 24 pack of Mountain Dew.

I have high hopes that these trilogy will make a rounded story for the nine films. Even if TFA was pretty old school visually, the story had already elements from the prequels. Whoever Snoke is, I believe he will at least be related to Darth Plagueis. It would be silly to have opened such door in Episode III and not take the opportunity to build a little bit more on that character. Without that, these 9 movies would have a big hole (Plagueis created Anakin!). In TLJ we have already seen the jedi logo introduced in the prequels, probably manifested in the journals of the Whills already introduced in R1. It feels they are trying to tie in absolutely everything.

I didn't realize RJ is on the record as being a PT fan (I'm assuming that is genuine and not just something he had to say for Disney to hire him). If that's the case I REALLY hope he has Luke mention them. It could be a way for him to talk about the PT era in a way that gives them a little more gravitas and highlights that trilogy's good points.

I always thought there was a good story and potential in the PTs, but they were just executed poorly. With the right creative touch RJ could put some much need polish on those movies. This would be quite a tall task for a few minutes of dialogue... but a guy can dream right?

Aside from what it could do to other movies in the franchise, I think it is necessary for Luke to discuss them. He'll need to give Rey context to the force and Jedi (much like Obi Wan and Yoda did for him), he'll also need to explain his absence from the galaxy during the rise of the first order and the destruction of an entire system.

Sometimes I wonder if us super fans (we're all on a Star Wars blog posting about a movie that won't be released for 8 months, so I define us all as super fans) overestimate how much the general population knows/remembers about Star Wars history. I think they need at least a Cliff Notes version on screen. My wife will probably see this with me (at least the first time I see it at the theater :)) and she won't know th backstory.

These movies are written for the general public in addition to SW fans so they need balance.
