I have to quote old Ben by saying this all depends on a certain point of view. When we see how things develop in SW, we see that things like Jedi and Sith are mearly titles. For me at least, after you train and become a Jedi or Sith, you continue to be one no matter what yet CW has shown us that you can train all your life and become a Jedi Master but if you choose to leave the order you are no longer considered one. Dooku and Ahsoka are perfect examples of this. I find that concept kind of silly as being a Master and just having a guy like Mace Windu tell you that you're being kicked out of the order for eating Yoda's cake doesn't mean squat as you will still have all your Jedi abilities and you can even build your own lightsaber even if the council took yours away. Ahsoka wasn't a Jedi when she built her new lightsabers and these appear to even have different crystals as the blades are transparent. The same case applies to Maul. Just because Sheev said he was no longer a Sith, does that make any difference? Maul could easily find a Sith holocron and continue his Sith training no matter what old man Palps said. The novel Darth Plagueis, while no longer canon, showed us more about this as the term ''Sith'' was considered different by many beings as there were indeed many Sith around but only those of the Darth line considered themselves true Sith. This should not really matter to most beings however cause what does it matter if you don't consider me a Sith or a Jedi if I have all the skills I need to even beat up a true one.

Well since that fight 1. Maul has missed out on his role in ruling the galaxy thanks to Obi. 2. He is mad at Obi for taking his lower half. 3. Maul has killed Obi's girlfriend. 4. Maul has killed Obi's master. Lot of factors between these two that would lend itself to a epic final confrontation. It would massively underwhelming if Maul gets killed by the Ghost crew.

Every Sith strives to maintain the rule in the long run. Maul sought to kill both Sidious and Dooku, thus leaving him and his brother as the only two remaining Sith.
Most people would disagree with you. Bringing Maul back did wonders for his characters, he is now one of the most intriguing and three-dimensional Star Wars characters we've gotten.

It really felt like they wrapped that up in CW already. And maul going back for revenge again isn't growing him. His status as wildcard has been much more interesting, at least for me.

Maul is what you might call Desperately Looking for a Purpose in Life. The war he was supposed to help his master start? Started without him, and ended without him. His destiny as Lord of the Sith? He gets replaced with somebody else- several somebodies, depending on how you look at it. Revenge on Obi-wan Kenobi? Sure, he twists the dagger a little, but he doesn't get the satisfaction of watching him die in utter despair. Revenge on Sidious? He's been definitively shown that it won't work. Now he's trying to find some sort of objective or goal that will make it al "worth it," and he's latched onto Obi-wan as his destiny. Maul is the Joker to Obi-wan's Batman, essentially. One could do just fine knowing the other is no more, the other has defined his existence through opposition to him.

Interesting perspective. I think this starts to be the inherent flaw then in the rule of two. A Sith is prepared to bend and break any rule to achieve there end means but unless strict adherence to the rule is enforced, there can really be no rule.

Well that's great . . . in terms of characterization. But from a narrative point of view, I thought it was a mistake bringing Darth Maul back from the dead.
