    And it could be theatrical-only--

That will never happen. In this day and age it will always be released online no matter what.

The people who attended SWC was intitled to have some exclusives shown to them. They pay to attend so its fair enough. But it would never happen with a teaser or a trailer thats ment to be seen by the whole wide world.

Well, I know Disney isn't Warner Bros., but didn't the opening scene from The Dark Knight Rises play before select movies, exclusively in theaters? I could imagine Disney doing a similar thing here - plus it might fill some extra seats for Rogue One.

I think the last marketing campaign has shown that the time of connect trailer to movie is not needed, you just need to spread awareness and let the morning talkin the offices all over the planet do the rest.
Only those 4000 in the room saw it, the rest paid and didn't. Hidalgo was at a DC panel and didn't see it for example.

Or it will be leaked by someone who's recording it in the Theaters, and LF and Disney knows that. That is why they will probably release it online so people can atleast have a good copy to watch at home. They could release it in the Theaters first with R1 and then online a couple of days later.. :);)

Since production has officially wrapped, they have plenty of time to make a teaser for November or December (IF they want to) .. ;);) :p:D

No! The teaser may come with Rogue One on cinema. That would be awesome.

help me out here. there is 1 ½ years to episode 8 open in cinemas. the production has already ended so why start production this early and end it 1 ½ years before the movie is released if they are not planing to make and release any early teaser ??? i mean 1 ½ years is plenty of time to edit and cut the movie togheter isn''t it ??

You have to keep in mind that there will be reshoots, probably starting in October/November. Also, we don't know how the shooting ratio is for EPVIII. They might have several hours of footage, now they have to look through it and decide what they can use. We will get a teaser when they've decided on the final shots. At least that's what I'm thinking.

Well, with a reshoot, they aren't typically reshooting the actual story so they can easily still edit a trailer together .

The movie was originally scheduled for May 2017. When TFA blew the doors off the box office in December, they decided to move the movie back. However, they kept the same shooting schedule. Now they have more time in post production to fine tune the movie. They won't have to feel rushed to get it done like JJ did with TFA.

When teasers/trailers get released will be determined by marketing. How much time between principal photography ending and the movie's release will play no part in it.

6-8 months, the latter in this case for post-production. Probably a lot more CG than in TFA. The teaser for VII came out on November 28 2014, that's just over a year before it's theatrical release. In this case, R1 is around, no overshadowing that film. Although a surprise 30-sec teaser is possible with the film's release.

I just accept the teasers as they come.
