SPECULATION Star Wars Episode VIII Teaser

Exactly. It has been said many times but for some reason certain people wont accept that it probably will not happen again.
But hey, we all have different opinions and I'm probably one of the worst persons in here to accept other peoples opinion. But that is something that I'm working on personally.

Eh, good responses but I'm still not convinced...basically, it boils down to - we don't think an advertising/marketing exec would want to put the trailer for the next film with R1.

Here's my question: is it a trend to advertise for the next film in a franchise? Like with Marvel... It seemed like you could always count on a teaser for whatever the next big project the following year was, when you went to see this years feature. (note - this is obviously pertaining to franchises that continually produce more films in succession and at the same time...obviously a Bond film would not have a teaser for the next Bond film since they are 3 years apart and the sequel wouldn't even be made yet)

Why are we thinking that the general public doesn't know what R1 is? Or that a trailer before the movie they already bought a ticket to will confuse them?

TFA was the biggest movie in the history of the US. Everybody knows there's a sequel with Rey/Luke coming.

I don't get this idea that the same general movie going public will buy tix to R1 thinking it's VIII...or that when they do, a trailer before it will make them stop and think "Wait, what? Are we getting VIII instead?". As long as the trailer isn't running on TV at the same time, I don't see how showing it before the film people came to see gives any confusion.


With R1,they are being pretty clear in all the trailers, print advertising, social media, etc...what this is. A separate story. It's on Good Morning America, in Entertainment Weekly, plenty of mainstream news places.

I think it builds huge hype into R1 for that general movie goer, to remind them - "hey! the Rey/Luke sequel is next year!" while they are in the theatre.

Franchise building.

But that's just my 2 cents...

 

I'm thinking we get something in theaters to go along with Rogue One, but it may not even be a 60 second look, maybe something very subtle like just a shot flying over the ocean and the (sound only) iconic snap-hiss of a lightsaber.

Kind of similar to what some people have proposed for a Vader RO trailer, but if we don't get it there, imagine the KoR at knight in pelting rain marching with purpose towards something to sinister music - then ahead we see two shadows and a green lightsaber ignites then milliseconds later, a blue one - then fade to black and Star Wars (Title of Episode VIII) December 2017

 

Sometimes I'd wish that the fans could make the official teasers and trailers.. It Sound great ..

 

Hmm. TFA had the first teaser in November 2014, the second teaser in April 2015, the behind-the-scene footage in July, and finally the main trailer in October.

Judging from this schedule, I think we will get the first teaser trailer in April 2017 (around Star Wars Celebration), a first trailer in July (around D23 and SDCC), and a second trailer around October.

I do not expect a teaser trailer to be attached to Rogue One, except for maybe a short announcement (10-20 seconds) with one or two images and iconic sounds and then the title and date of Episode VIII - more or less like @Lazlo seem to suggest.

 

It could definitely happen and your theory has logic. But I feel like you're saying this out of want. I wanted a short Episode 8 trailer at the Sunday at Celebration, but we didn't get one.

But realistically the marketing for Star Wars is very different to Marvel. Lucasfilm is famed for holding it's cards close to it's chest. So really we don't have a solid idea of how the marketing turns out as we've only had TFA out - and as I explained on my previous comment, TFA cannot be compared to R1 in a marketing/advertising sense because TFA needed more promotion and earlier on. I could be totally wrong and we'll have a new teaser by the end of the year, but lets see.

 

i hope makingstarwars gets a scoop when the first teaser is on its way. i seriously cant wait. but I'm probably going to have wait until next year.

since postproduction has started for episode 8 i think there is a big chance for us to get a teaser this year. they have more than enough time to make one for december.

 

If an early teaser is released i think it will be in January. LF probably wants Rogue One to rule in December ..

 

The possibility has always been there but it dosnt seem likely that it will happen. Now, I didnt wanna say this but i might as well get it out the way, in 2014 there wasnt another Star Wars movie in the way of realeasing an early teaser trailer in November/December. This year Rogue One is there and it needs full attention, at the same time people who have seen TFA knows that Episode VIII is coming, so there is no reason to release anything early for Episode VIII.
Actually the way they released the first two teasers for Rogue One seems like a good way of marketing Episode VIII as well. A first teaser in April/May, a second teaser in August and maybe a full trailer in October or early November. I think that marketing strategy seems fine.

 

it woulnt take anything away from Rogue One if they released a teaser in december. Rogue One would still have full attention, the episode 8 teaser would just be a little appetizer on the side.

 

I get what youre saying, but you have to look at it like this, from a marketing point of view there is no need for it in December when they are already running another Star Wars movie in the theaters.

Very unlikely.

Super Bowl ads are incredibly expensive. The SB isn't on ABC or ESPN, so they have to spend a big chunk of cash to share a news cycle with the biggest American sporting event.

The rules of trailers have changed.

The release date of trailers have nothing to do with another film's release date.


They want to release the teaser on a Monday through Thursday when very little entertainment news is coming out and own the news cycle with click bait stories and analysis from entertainment journalists and critics. You get millions in free press from releasing a trailer.

Releasing a trailer on YouTube is free and helps you dominate the news cycle, unlike sharing it with the rush of stories out of the super bowl and the rush of cash out of Disney bank accounts.

They haven't even revealed the name yet. It could be January before we know that.

 

Or the name could be revealed with the first teaser. Who knows ..

 

I always assumed the teaser would be released with Rogue One. But I wouldn't be surprised if it's not and is released later on.
