SPECULATION Star Wars Episode VIII Teaser

Strongly doubt they reveal the title along with a teaser trailer. If they want to milk the publicity machine for all they can, and everything shows they will, a release of the title might be accompanied by, say Luke speaking, but I think a "full teaser" such as the RO in April or the Dr. Strange one from the spring will come separate from the title reveal.


If we don't get the title reveal by October, I predict we won't get it until 2017 (though there's the college football bowl season with tons of ABC& ESPN games to use to reveal the title...that's 2-3 weeks after RO but I think that's too close.

I think we get an announcement trailer in February....possibly at like NBA all star weekend or something, teaser in mid April to mid May, full trailer in August and tv ads around September.

 

I dont think there is going be a full trailer in August, thats to soon. October is my guess. I'd say a first teaser between April 13 - 16 At Star Wars Celebration in Or(lando ) and then a second teaser in July and then a full trailer in October. Then between October and December the tv spots starts to kick in in full effect.

 

I would've agreed a month ago but look at when RO full trailer debuted.


The TFA trailer release date was waaaaaaaaay later than is usual these days. I think that was for 2 reasons:
1) JJ is psycho about trailers. TFA information gushed out after the full trailer release and I think he pushed back on the release as long as he could.

2) as the movie came together I think JJ & TPTB realized how much of a remake he had they knew pushing back the poster and trailer releases would give less time before the opening of the movie before general audiences realized "Hey this is like the first one" and "hey Luke isn't in this at all"


I think EVIII will have many secrets, but an all new story like that is easier to promote and cut a trailer that doesn't reveal everything. They can release the ful trailer in August or early September at the latest, and wait to release the blitz of tv spots until October.

With TFA, they waited so late on the full trailer they ended up following it immediately with tons of tv ads which included a large variety of new footage. The information out there on TFA went from 0-60 in October & November. Judging by the timing of the RO full trailer release, they've learned from the error.

I think the timing of EVIII public announcements will follow RO more closely than TFA.

 

I think the last trailer for Rogue One was teaser 2 and not a full trailer. I would say a full Epiosde VIII trailer late September but not in August. With two teasers they wont need a full trailer in August, that is to close to the second teaser.

 

If we get two teasers then I would agree, but I'm not so sure that we do .. Remember that TFA only had two teasers because JJ insisted on it, their original marketing plan was not to release two teasers but one in April at SWC and then start the video/ trailer adds from there.. And i think they will stick with their original marketing plan this time. So if they release only 1 teaser, then a full trailer in august and the Tv Spots closer to release and so on and so on, it would actually seems like an logigal move in my opinion.

But hey, what do I know, I'm just a beard ..

 

JJ wanting to do that Thanksgiving trailer is one of those things someone says every once and awhile, but is highly dubious.

JJ hates trailers, has gone on record saying he hates them, and uses trailers as pieces of disinformation whenever possible. They fly in the face of the whole Mystery Box BS ego trip of his.

Teaser 1:" there has been an awakening" Finn pops up. Uses that last shot of Falcon with no context, definitely letting you believe Han is piloting.

Teaser 2: Luke narration and shot of Luke when Luke never speaks in the movie nor figures direct into the plot. The map is the Macguffin. Shows Plasma being a bad #%+£€>, which is the opposite of the character in the film. Shows Han and Chewie after another desert Falcon sequence, which misdirected the audience.

Full trailer: includes only Knight of Ren scene, which is a huge mislead, because they don't figure into the plot at all.

That picture of the script read, which included Hamill with a script was also a big mislead.

I'm pointing all of this out because I think the EVIII full trailer will come in late July or August not October.

Lucasfilm seems to have learned their lessons from TFA about stringing the audience along without a trailer until October.

We'll get something big like a teaser in February, then a second teaser or BTS at SWC.

A full trailer in the late summer and TV ads in the fall.

Justice League and Thor 3 will be opening in November so they will have to release the EVIII full trailer before those two flicks suck up all the promotional air.

Spider-Man Homecoming releases July 7 so we should expect a full EVIII trailer after that.

 

I still say the first teaser is with Rouge One.

The short, 60-version with just character images, music, and the title reveal. One year out.

They are doing good with marketing on R1 now...nobody will be confused as to which movie it's for the second they see Rey, Finn, Kylo.

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

 

Absolutely valid opinion and if you're right, I'll deep fry some crow immediately.

My logic rests on the fact that trailer releases have no dependence to movie releases. They're released online now. Also, to me, revealing the title with the film doesn't make sense because it'll be tweeted and known worldwide before people at the opening screenings get to their cars.

On the other hand, Marvel has had so much success with post credit stingers, that LFL could employ a similar strategy with a quick teaser and title and use their people to keep it off YouTube and major sites for a few weeks. Your theory is quite plausible.

Frankly I'm dying to know the title and see a little of old Luke so the sooner the better.

And I think the posters around here have so many well formed and different takes, the wait goes faster with the insightful debating.

 

I'd love this but I think there's little chance of LFL/Disney diverting attention from Rogue One until it hits stores, much like how R1 advertising started ramping up when EP7 came to home video.

But I'd like to be proven wrong.

 

We'll probably see a teaser around the time Rogue One releases but nothing major. They will keep attention on Rogue One for a while.

As much as I'd love this I don't think it's plausible for Lucasfilm. A marketing dept. would look at that idea and immediately say it'd be a risky move with confusing the audience.

I'd love to be proven wrong this December but I don't think we'll get any Episode 8 stuff till 2017.

 

I agree.. If anything arrives early we might get an EP VIII title in January and an short EP VIII teaser in February.. But I still doubt that.

 

I cant see any Episode VIII teaser being released this year either. As you said maybe in January or February, MAYBE!! In my opinion there is not even a high possibilty of that happening. I'm seeing the first Episode VIII teaser being released in April at Celebration as well.

As so many others here on the forum I would love to be proven wrong.

 

It's a possibility, but still a far-fetched one. Especially seeing as Rogue One will still be in cinema's around the world.

I think the safest bet is waiting for Celebration in April.

Safe bet. I would agree that this is most likely.

For those pointing to Rogue One's full trailer coming in August, consider that Rogue One is not going to have the same automatic box office impact that the main episodic series will. So they will need to push a bit harder to ensure butts in seats in December.

My personal prediction: There will be radio silence from here until Celebration. Zilch. No news, no pictures, no titles, no teasers before April. The reason for this, is that they will want to keep VIII out of the general populations minds until Rogue One has wrapped up it's theatre run and is ready to be released on home video.

Celebration will be something of a blow out. Title, full teaser, interviews, pictures synopsis ect. I think Celebration Orlando will be a great time. Then a full official trailer sometime from early September until late October. After that, TV spots, ect ect.

My advice to everyone: Don't get your expectations up too high. That is the path to darkness. Patience is the key for any happy fanboy.

 

a month ago i would have agreed with you but looking at people's posts i'm starting to agree that we wont see anything about episode 8 until 2017.

 

From what Daisy Ridley said I'd asume 2017 now too.
