Well, they did, and they do have to in a way. I mean they directly tied into the OT. Especially in TFA. Normal considering it's a sequel, and with Lando coming back, they will further connect the OT with this ST.
RJ strayed from it, changing many things, but I get the felling JJ will bring it full circle once again.

Everything in IX will directly reflect a step in a new direction while clinging to the main thematics of both TFA and TLJ. Seeing as both films are different in tone, a balanced tone in between the two may actually make make the trilogy feel a little more complete as a whole. I think with JJ back in charge, most of the fans agree that IX will lean closer to TFA in tone, but will still take liberties in pushing the boundaries of cinema as Star Wars always does and will continue to do for years to come. I think much like in the vain of TLJ, you will get a lot of small references and name drops, but visualizations aren't totally out of the question. The reason I don't think those will happen is that we already got a flashback with the saber in TFA and the focus will continue to be on the cast we already have in place. Then again, we know that Rey possesses the same Force ability as Quinlan Vos so I definitely won't ever dismiss the possibility for more of those moments from happening. The more lore expansion we get, I think we will enjoy the sequel trilogy more over time. I am keeping my expectations low going into IX so I enjoy it more, but from the small little things and rumors I have heard through the grapevine, Episode IX is going to be larger than anything we could possibly imagine. I think we will breathe a little easier once we get the title drop any week now. Maybe JJ will finally use his Twitter account again for once. :D

I didn't have time to read all three pages, so i apologies if this was covered already. BTW, I read comic books( there are comic books for adults that children should not read or understand). There is nothing embarrassing or childish about it, also I self-published two comic books myself.

Moving right along, there is a series of panels where Vader says, Let the past die. Kill it if you have to. I believe Kylo Ren said that to Rey in TLJ. There may certainly be a connection between the two.

However the under ground tomb has been discussed in Legends frequently maybe it will be seen in episode 9 as Kylo Ren's sanctuary.

Well, anywho; I closed my facebook and twitter( law enforcement tracks people who have those accounts, so I didn't want to be a part of that. I might have to take off to a 3rd world country... joking) account so I can't verify that with Matt Martin. i would love his feedback.
