4k blu rays come out this year. TFA is not on the list for 4k release.

    But Amazing Spiderman 2 is.

    And Hancock.

I think they should attach the Rogue 1 trailer right before the the showing of the film. That would be a good surprise for all the SW fans who will buy TFA. give it like 2days then post the trailer. thats would be cool...

i know, you said "maybe some territories have different release dates ."

Australia and USA are different blu ray regions. So the assumption i was making was that april is probably the month it comes out over multiple regions, but that they are probably staggering the actual release date in april ;)

I would love what they did for Episode III's DVD bonus features where they had an hour long documentary sorta thing where they went through the entire process from pre-production meetings, to filming, to costuming, to the propmaking, to the final touches of CGI before the movie is ready to be shown in cinemas. I just really want props and costumes and conceptual art, I dig that blast so hard. And I think Mark Hamill should narrate, or "host" a lot of the extra content.

I seriously dislike extented versions, they usually break the pacing of the movie and add stuff which was left out for a good reason. It want features about designing TFA and writing TFA, more stuff about the thought processes behind the making of TFA. I'm less interested in visual effects featurettes, I don't watch them.

I wouldn't expect a to much BTS stuff, they had a whole film crew for 4k digital filming for that kind of stuff, I think they release that material solo. And don't forget there is a Rinzler book coming "the making of TFA" somewhere in october.

So long as we get the 3D version, I'll be at least content. Lately Disney has been kind of lacking in their 3D releases, at least in the United States. Movies like Frozen and Maleficent never got US 3D releases. For the Force Awakens I'll import if I have to.

i'd like an extended cut version as an option, not a replacement (though i know it's not going to happen).

it's always nice to see cut scenes, but it's interesting from a filmmaking perspective to see those scenes in context of the whole film. some movies have great cut scenes that are a bloody shame to be missing from the final version (like The Libertine in which the heart and soul of the movie ended up on the cutting room floor ~ fie!). and some films are actually much better in their extended versions than their original cuts (Dances with Wolves, believe it or not, is a far more balanced exploration of the relationship between 19th century "americans" and the native populations than the sanitized cinema release).

just a different way of thinking about it.

I agree, sometimes extended cuts greatly improve the original.

As an example, Ridley Scott's Kingdom of Heaven, lambasted theatrical cut. Praised Director's Cut. (Heck, even Bladerunner is a better extended cut film)

Yeah but if you realize what they cut you also must recognize that they cut many of it for a solid good reason. For instance, they knew they were going to release an extended cut when they were still shooting the Lord of the Rings. In the Lord of the Rings trilogy it works most of the time but also because the story already has a coherent shape before it was presented on screen. What I do like is when they include just some extre shots or very tiny scenes which make the movie just a little bit different from the cinema version. But then again, I don't really bother having to watch them as deleted scenes and not see them in some finished or complete cut. I know it is not in the story but at least I myself have the opportunity to pick what I believe belongs to the story and what not. The cut Unkar Plutt on Takodana scene is one such example. I understand why it is cut and really I don't want to see it in an extended version basically because there is so much more interesting stuff to do storywise with the figure of Unkar Plutt in the next movies. It feels out of place. The other problem is that extended cuts often become the most authoritative version to watch. I dislike that, the original cut had the length and form it had for a reason. Pacing and tense is a difficult thing to pull of on screen. There is a reason why TFA received so many prizes and nominations for editing. It's an art and a skill not many filmmakers have. For example, if you watch the Lord of the Rings trilogy you immediately notice there is something off and wrong with the editing. Then watch TFA or Abrams' Star Trek and you immediately understand the art particular skill of Mary Jo Markey and Maryann Brandon.

i'm not arguing against that. i agree that the scenes that were cut were definitely cut judiciously. that's part of good editing.
i'm just saying i like to see them in context rather than merely as: here's a bunch of cut clips.
