SPECULATION The Connection Between Rey and Ben.

I was really disappointed it wasn't Ben Chewbacca Solo. Maybe it still is. I can still hope.

I like how it was described only by rumor, I think they left that up in the air for a reason, maybe Luke was there, maybe he wasn't, and went directly to pov of Han in the nursery, almost afraid to touch him.

 

Yeah, maybe that was left out of A:EE for a specific reason.

 

LOL at this dialogue. How old is Han, 5?

Thanks for sharing @PrincessLeiaCB3, but I'm gonna say that purging those and such into Legends was a very wise step indeed...

Totally personal opinion and please don't take it the wrong way, but I think that name is just horrible. Hahaha.
Ben Solo is perfect. Nothing more needed.

i wouldn't mind if he had a middle name. it doesn't change him for me ~ hahaha.
but i will admit that Chewbacca as a middle name has become such a joke, it would be hard to take seriously at this point.
though perhaps they could play it for laughs:
Rey pulls it out of his mind and can't stop laughing--diffuses whatever silly fight they were having the moment before.

 

I know it's awful, but it amuses me. And he is like their best friend and it made him more family I guess. I think too that 'Ben' was the catalyst for them all getting together, and becoming a family (and I mean early on, Luke, Leia, Han, Chewie, Threepio and R2D2, yes I am throwing in the droids) before realizing they even kind of were one. We brought this up before, but that passage in the young adult version of ANH The Princess, The Scoundrel and the Farm Boy.

Agree. Even when I'm a big H/L fan here, there are some stuff I definitely cringe about (yep, "The Courtship of Princess Leia" among others LOL).

 

I couldn't get through those books, so I got the graphic novel. It was a good story, but again, it was that whole how they made the characters so hokey. I am not serious about the Chewbacca bit, Bail, Organa or whatever else would have made more sense as well.

I know. *sigh*

 

One more thing about names. Ben Solo sounds a heck of a lot like Kylo Ren. Everyone else with two names, with the exception of Finn for obvious reasons, their names are nothing like the names they take for their other persona. Rey meaning King, or also having a kind of Ray of Light meaning, and Ben meaning 'Son of the Right hand Man" or something (descendant of Vader who was the Emperor's) Ren and Padme have the same meanings. I wonder if they put that into naming them, as Kira, which was the name they were playing with prior, means light. Luke means Light.

 

The only middle name I am willing to accept is Skywalker. That's it. (Which will also serve to mollify the fanboys missing the sacred surname being handed over )
I cringe every time I see Ben Organa Solo, Ben Organa Amidala Solo, etc. etc.

Ben Solo is good enough for me.

 

my thought on Ben and Ren (and i've had this in mind since the beginning) is that it is also specifically a way to ease the transition for the audience between the two names/personas.
Kylo Ren is called Ren, not Kylo. so the change over to Ben won't be that jarring, really.

 

Who uses them though, it was just something funny to know it was there. I hated too that hyphenated stuff in the Legends books with Leia. I liked she just stayed the same. Go one way or the other.

 

As long as we eventually call Ben Solo redeemed, I'll be satisfied.

 

I've actually noticed that he is actually predominately (if not always) referred to as Kylo (and not as Ren) in the canon material recently. (I personally prefer it...)

wha? what are you referring to? he's Ren in TFA (Finn, Hux both call him just Ren). only Snoke calls him Kylo Ren (both names), as does Lor San Tekka (again, both names). where is he called just "Kylo?" : o p

I am being serious about calling him Kylo. Yes, I know that in the movie Hux and Finn refer to him as Ren, but the new canon references all call him Kylo, not Ren. Example, check the databank entries on starwars.com for example - in all of them he is referred to as Kylo. (http://www.starwars.com/databank/kylo-ren-biography-gallery)

Kylo would make more sense in regards to the Knights of Ren, because I am assuming they all use Ren.

No, and I was surprised by the amount of people complaining about it (Leia keeping the Organa). I mean, in Shattered Empire Shara Bey keeps her name after marrying Kes so why people gets so riled up?

 

A lot keep it in a GFFA and it helped remember who they were, etc. Norra Susser/Wexley being an exception, using Susser during the war and wanting to go to Wexley back when she is returned to her son.
