+1 If Han does go out in TFA I would be really happy about Chewie and Rey and or Finn keeping the Falcon going in the ST.

It might technically belong to Leia though unless Rey is their daughter then its just as much hers to inherit.

I really hope that it gets shot down; that is something that we have never seen before. I remember Richard Marquand and Lucas continuously debated on whether to kill Han and/or Lando and the Falcon during Return of the Jedi. I believe that he felt undecided until the scene where you see Lando making a narrow escape after they destroyed the second Death Star. Marquand felt that the Rebel Alliance should not have won without any significant sacrifices, and I agree with him. I suppose Lucas thought that Yoda and Obi-Wan were enough to serve that purpose.

If the Falcon gets shot down, it creates more conflict for the characters and shows that the heroes really have their backs against the wall. It is a much better story device than having it just break down yet again. The Falcon would lose a lot of its coolness to me if they continued to stick with that theme, and becomes more of a joke. If I was one of the characters and it broke down again, then there would be absolutely no way I would board that ship. I would rather flap my arms a lot and hope to fly somewhere.

Yep I was thinking the same thing a head on suicide crash into a super star destroyer, the question is who will do the piloting honors, maybe Han to save Leia.

To me that would be the best way to kill Han, at his own hands, intentionally crashing it to save Leia or Luke or the kids etc. Of course Chewie would have to go with him.

Well I couldn't see them both dying in a firefight, I don't think they would want a great funeral send off.

When I was a kid, in the spring of 1983, I recall Marvel Comics printing a few "scenes" of the long awaited ROTJ comic adaption. ;)
One series of panels had the Falcon along with Luke, Han & Chewbacca(with R2D2 also) back on Dagobagh with Yoda. The Millenium Falcon slides fully into the swamp, , and Han gets ticked.
That bit seemed to be either concept art based on rumors or unused scripts, but Marvel may have wanted to tease the young Star Wars fans out there.
    Id add:
    SPOILER:
There were confirmed reports of the black storm troopers or "special ops" shadow-troopers using flame thrower weapons. The elite units might be dispatched to kill Han & Luke then destroy the Falcon after removing the secret object or device.
It's widely known that Chewbacca has or gets a new bionic arm and Harrison Ford was seen filming a action scene in a forest location/mountain range yelling "RUN CHEWIE!".
This might be the huge event in the first act or it might be a part of the film climax.
I highly doubt that both Han Solo will be killed and the Falcon destroyed. Solo may die but the new young leads will take the ship.
The rumored bit about them "flying off" to Yavin 4 then handing Luke a light saber sounds like total BS but Id bet Chewbacca, R2 & C3P0 will stay with the young leads. BB8 Im not so sure,.

if I had to guess and I realize this is going against the "X is going to die" from the other thread, but I remain highly skeptical that guys who are pros working on film sets will risk their career to give paperwork to somebody without getting paid a lot of money to do it. That being said and I have no connections and no sources. I would guess that certain space pilot lives, which if you look at the concept art of the girl with the lightsaber and the falcon in the background I want to point out that in that artwork Mr. Solo is very much alive. I would say

Falcon = Destroyed, most emotional impact without killing a main character right away.
    perhaps

Chewie = also suffers similar fate. Hard to believe Chewie allows certain space pilot to bite the big one without ripping arms, legs, and anything else attached off. It has been the essence of his character since inception.

I know its not popular, but its my opinion anyway.

Yeah Rey getting a sabre and the falcon I hope not. I really missed having a Han Solo torch bearer in PT. If you give the heir to the jedi the falcon to it puts all your eggs in the sabre wielder basket and leaves the scraps for the blaster slingers. Also judging from the fact that Rey's giant pig tow truck was hauling a crashed black x-wing it possible that Poe looses access to X-wings especially if the small band of heroes are fugitives from both the empire and rebel alliance extremists.

Now Chewie, Rey and BB-8 getting on the Falcon does not mean that Rey is the Pilot or that Poe doesn't get on board too.

I believe the Chewy bionic arm rumor has been debunked and is not true

The concept art for it was real, but they're not officially going with that. Unless Chewie has artificial fur over his hands, or he loses one late into the movie...

I'ver seen a lot of Chewie concept art and only the one had the robot hand. If he had a robot hand, I think there would be a lot of concept for that hand and I haven't seen or heard of any and I've heard of some esoteric stuff on this movie.

Yeah. I have most of the "Art of Star Wars" books in its various editions, and they´re full with rejected concepts arts. So, just because you see something in concept art it does not mean it´s going to end up in the movie. They make tons of illustrations and concepts and only a small portion ends up on screen. So Chewie´s robotic hand seems just teasing an early idea that was rejected short after, just like a million others would for sure.

By the way @MakingStarWars , I don´t agree 100% with all the spoilers you give out but certainly appreciate a lot all your efforts and info. It´s making this long wait a lot more fun. Nice Podcast as well, big fan of all of you guys at "Now This is Podcasting"!

The following is pure speculation but it is based on the juicy rumors so I will put in spoiler for your protection. Again speculation to follow.

Late in the movie, Kylo and Rey are fighting. Han moves in hoping to save her. Kylo goes for the killing blow Chewie lets out a terrible tragic roar as he races to the scrap reaching out with his long arm. There is a flash of red both Han and Chewie go down. Chewie howls in pain. Rey screams Finn and possibly others lay down enough firepower that Kylo has to back off or flee into the woods. The heroes learn that Han is dead. Chewie has lost an arm. Ashamed that he could not save Han he pledges his life debt to Rey.

Rey might be a skilled fighter with her staff lightsaber/force pike. This would let her be able to protect herself as a scavenger and is partly based on info posted here about her stunt double. She could be the one protecting an unacomplished stormtrooper and a pilot not trained in hand to hand combat.
