    I have zero belief that Luke will die in this film.
    I do believe he will die, but not until Episode IX when he finally becomes one with the Force, and the trilogy of trilogies is completed.

    Time to go to war actually says more about the tone of this next film that the offical title.

    Well if that's the case where does Star Wars go after IX? I assume they won't keep making standalone films only because they probably won't do as well at the box office as the main saga. They could continue with X, XI, and XII but then you would have to have another Skywalker in order to do that. My way too early prediction is that the next film will be advertised as "The Last Chapter in the Skywalker Saga". After that they can go wherever they want to continue building the universe at large.

    Logically - either Ben or Rey carries on the Saga.

    They can also stop making Saga films for a while and simply make Star Wars story films for a while and build anticipation for the next Saga movie.

    Im going to go out on a limb here and speculate Luke trains Rey and then dies or gets killed and Rey is "The Last Jedi."

    I hope both of them. I don't see why Kylo Ren needs to die at the end of this trilogy. in the next one he could operate as the big bad (ala palpatine) and exceed vader...well actually literally complete vaders vision, of overthrowing his master and ruling the galaxy himself. That would be a cool thing to watch. I don't think we've ever followed a villans arc like that before.

    Or possibly he could go grey/lightside if it takes your fancy.

    I don't see why Disney would kill him if hes a good character. Hell they re-use vader to make Rouge One. I bet they wish he was still around in this saga.

    Speculation: Luke, in his solitude and boredom on Ahch-To's island, decides to take a force-sensitive puffin as a padawan, who he nicknames Puffi-Wan Kenobi. He and his apprentice are the last of the Jedi. ;)

    I'd like to see the mods explanation for all these threads about the same thing! :p

    Luke is literally the last Jedi.
    Rey has found the last jedi and needs to learn how to be a Jedi (only person she can learn from).
    The last jedi is the galaxies last hope.
    Kylo Ren only has one more Jedi to kill!

    The Last Jedi is also plural. But I kinda hope the title refers to Kylo Ren, don't know why though. But it probably refers to Luke and Rey.

    It almost definitely means ‘the last Jedi’ before Luke. Yoda prequel movie confirmed. Ep8 is just one big flashback and the story doesn't pick back up until 9.

    Luke is going to have an Obi-Wan moment. Obi-Wan died trying to save Luke, Luke may die trying to save Rey. Don't forget that it is around the same time in the trilogy in which Obi-Wan died. Which means who will train Rey. I feel that he will give her some training in the beginning than die heroically. Rey will then train herself which is possible and has been done before. She therefore at the end of the movie will be The Last Jedi. I'm now so sure of this that I am going to bet credits.

    I know you're being facetious, but 5 million is a large chunk of whatever the total marketing budget for TLJ is (I would think at least 50 million worldwide in marketing).

    So if you're talking 5-7% of your budget gone 10 months before opening... doesn't make a ton of sense
