If she isn't a knight of ren, my money is on a new alien for the Finn and Poe crew

 

I think she will have some role in The Resistance playing alongside Finn. Somebody who can provide comic relief and also provide another asian role with the increasing Chinese market.

 

What if she's Finn's new love interest ?

 

Could be. I think when we heard there would a new young female character that would play alongside Finn, a lot of well known actresses where considered. Then we heard that new roles would be rewritten to be smaller to give more screen time to the popular Episode 7 characters. I think role has gone from love interest to funny friend role. I am guessing Rey and Finn will be in different locations for most of the movie.

 

I've seen her before, she's been in a number of videos on Collegehumor.com's youtube channel. "Funny friend" role seems reasonable for her, given her comedy background.

 

This link has a bunch of her shorts. I wasn't impressed, will be interesting to see what she can do.

 

Will Kelly Marie Tran play another comic relief character in Episode VIII? I wonder if her character will interact with Finn.

 

I think it would make sense for her to be playing a comedic role, considering her background, but I wouldn't want to assume that's what she must be doing. For all we know, she can carry dramatic roles just as well and just hasn't had any opportunities to demonstrate that in her career thus far. She will have gone through the same long, thorough auditioning process as John and Daisy, so I'm sure she'll be up to the task, whatever it may be!

 

I hope so, to make Rey jealous.

 

Another comedic relief character? You mean like Han Solo?

 

Racist Hollywood/Disney will cast her as a slutty Twi'lek or Togruta because Hollywood is well known for stereotyping people of an Asian ethnicity.

 

Her having primarily a comedic background makes me kind of want to see her play a villain, or at least a more serious kind of role in general. It'd be a nice change of pace for her. A FO officer, a female Dark Side user, or even a "lost potential Jedi," etc.

Plus it's not like that hasn't happened before in Hollywood.

 

One word: Kanjiklub. What the flippers! Seriously, there is a Star Wars gang in the galaxy which solely consists of Indonesians. Is there alsoa planet in the galaxy where all the asians live?

 

Hmm... for some reason I have this picture in my head of her either being a scoundrely Lando-esque character, or someone affiliated with the New Republic who comes into the Resistance...

Right. I've seen plenty of comedians switch to drama. Laurie, Williams, Murray.. Munn has a similar shtick to Tran and she's playing Psylocke this year. Not exactly a comic relief character.

I think we should remember when they announced some of the cast members of The Force Awakens who went on to have pretty small roles. Didn't they make a point of announcing who played Korr Sella, and she was in the movie for about 30 seconds?

I think there's a chance that some of the people they announce will end up having minor roles.

 

Hmm... you could be right. I was just looking back over the original cast announcement for TFA though, and the only bit player there was MvS, which I'm going to attribute mostly to his incredible cachet as an actor.
