If Palatine created Anakin and has been the puppet master the entire time, he may well know he cannot live forever if Snoke lives. So He created the Skywalkers to ultimately kill Snoke who was the one that had achieved immortality. Now with Snoke out of the way, Palpatine can return. I expect Disneywant to Bring Vader back somehow as he was and IS $$.

If we believe Rian Johnson it wasnt planned considering what he said about "creative freedom" and "no restrictions".

Hmmm.... Of course there was a plan! You don't spend $4 BILLION without knowing what you are going to do with it! It has always baffled me why anyone has ever believed any narrative suggestion that they were just "making it up as they go along."

Rian threw nothing away. He was brought in to provide the diversion, the misdirection...

Again, Rian did not do his own thing, as his script was already done when they were finishing up filming for TFA.

    Exactly.

Here is what I think has happened: You introduce a new heroine, who everyone says is "special" in this universe. Special has always been a Skywalker. The saga is all about the Skywalkers, so the most logical thought before a movie is released is that she is the daughter of Han and Leia... or maybe even Luke. During the first movie, you create a somewhat predictable, huge mystery about who Rey is, providing clues all over that really leave anything possible. It is the cliffhanger... and then TLJ destroys everyone's expectation that she is related to the Skywalkers.

I think Rian's sole purpose was to subvert expectations so that The Rise of Skywalker can give us a "surprising predictable" finish, if that makes sense. I still say Rey can be anyone. But a Skywalker, she must be...

I am still couple of books behind, I might wait for show to end before I read the entire series. The Expanse helps during Star Wars drought. ;)

It is not merely a "narrative suggestion." It is something Rian Johnson stated time and time and time again, in no uncertain terms and in on-the-record interviews. (I once made a post with a half dozen or so RJ quotes telling us all time and again that there was no plan.)

Having JJ do E9 was brilliant because that will bring some much-needed cohesion into the ST. It's pretty obvious from the teaser we are going to see something very much in line with E7 in terms of tone, style, characters and plot. It's nice to be excited about Star Wars again.

Ok. I liked the trailer. The visuals were awesome and just like a teaser typically does, it gave us nothing of the story.

I guess I will start with the title. It definitely is interesting. The meaning is definitely not clear. I am going to guess it has something to do with Anakin.
rumors have it that C3pio’s old memories is part of the mcguffin. If that so then something about Anakin May be involved
While it could refer to redemption for Ben (and he is a Skywalker by blood) his name is still Solo. So I’m not sure how that is going to fit.
Rey is a possibility. While I don’t think she is a Skywalker by birth, she still lacks a surname and I have always liked the idea of her taking the Skywalker name. From the trailer they are definitely stressing that she is the hero of this trilogy (of course we knew that already). If she ends up taking the Skywalker name then the title fits. It also fits because JJ said himself that not only did this movie need to wrap up the whole saga but also this trilogy and if it refers to Rey then that would work as well

Palpatine is back. This is likely what Peter Sciretta was referring to in his tweet yesterday that he thought would be controversial. This will depend how it is executed.

Kylo’s mask being back is likely to make him more menacing. I think we will see a mix of it off and on.

Lando flying the Falcon with Chewbacca :) Fantastic. Nothing more needs to be said

I can’t wait until we get the summer Entertainment Weekly Breznican article as well as the Vanity Fair article which hopefully give us more info

Indeed it helps! I admire your restraint, I started watching the show first but once I started the books I couldn't stop.

I don't dispute what Rian said... and I think they gave him very wide berth in crafting the story. But the franchise has been attempting to hide the secrets from leaking out from day one and trying to provide a surprising and satisfying moviegoing experience. So I do not put it past any of TPTB to "mislead" us for the greater good... from a certain point of view.

Someone smartly pointed out that J.J. - mystery box lover - supposedly just revealed the biggest spoiler, that Palpatine is back. So either he has even crazier thing up his sleeve or things might not go the way we think in EPIX either.

I also believe this is total BS.

why does it automatically combine posts as if they are double posts, I intended for these to be 2 seperate unrelated posts.

The whole first sequence with Rey and the TIE . . . This is everything I loved about the visuals from TFA. It feels so grounded, so Star Wars, but it's also so fresh and cool. Even the big reveal aside, this scene makes the trailer for me. It feels like Rey has really become a Jedi.

If that’s what it is, I think it’s visible just as the burning A-Wing scene transitions to the medal scene.

It (the stripe) is visible on the far right of the blurry image I’ve posted here. ...I’m not saying it means anything, but I did notice it too. (And it doesn’t seem to be part of the A-Wing.)
