It's an optical illusion

 

Some people have speculating this a lot, even on MSW, and other forums, that she will be the strongest Jedi ever, because she will embrace light and dark side equally, or not the Dark side per se but the emotions the passion. It's a interesting POV

 

Does anyone else not get the people reading into the arrangements of characters on the poster, as though it strategically "means" something about the film/plot? I don't think there's much rhyme or reason to it (it's like poetry ), personally. Luke not being there is about the biggest takeaway from it, IMO. The rest is just what looked "right"....that's what I think, anyway.

Anyone care to embellish why they think the way characters are placed on the posters is so important and reveals anything else beyond the fact that certain characters will have a part in the film? It wasn't anything like that with the other films and their posters, IIRC.

 

Love the new poster, shame on the one who gave it a dislike rating. Edited post: Oh that's rich giving me a dislike as well, I believe that was deliberate.

 

I really hope Rey isn't a Mary Sue type character. Nothing bothers me more in a movie than characters without any flaws, especially men writing female characters without any flaws.

Me too...I like it. Looks regal and dignified. She looks amaze-balls.

 

I' m one of those who don' t like photoshop and it has nothing to do with Struzan, who I' m not big fan too. But Struzan is far superior to this poster. And the ultimate Holy Grail of posters, the OT posters, is sometrihng I expected after the 2 years OT feeling massage, yet no one bothered.

my friend Galen, count mi in the shame group of those who were dissappointed by the poster. I really expected painting and I really don' t like how much characters are crammed in the poster. I would love to like the poster, yet it didn' t happen. See, I don' t like to be dissappointed, I would much more prefer to be with you there in the Olymp of hapiness.....instead I' m here downstairs lamenting with head in my hands....

 

Now we have seen the poster....is he still temporarily holding it?

If so....why bother putting him with a saber on the official poster?

Who knows, really. The rumours suggest he just picks it up to fight Kylo, and isn't necessarily force sensitive. Whatever the case, one thing is certain: JJ is playing with our minds like a cat would its food.

 

Yeah this is the way I kind of feel about it. It looks good and all but we keep hearing "real sets!, Practical effects!...back to the old ways!!" and then they go with something new on the poster. I don't dislike it. It just isn't what I expected with how they were pitching this movie. Those clips promoting the trailer look really cool. I'm super pumped for the trailer. When it comes down to it only the movie matters!!!

Hmmm....the plot thickens...

Would have been disappointed if FInn was just a trooper turned rebel with a blaster. Would be pretty dull. The lightsaber IS the hero's weapon...unless Abrams has changed that.

 

I think there will be some saber swapping throughout the trilogy but mainly between Rey and Finn. Poe Dameron might have to use it at some point, but he is going to fit into the bigger picture later, I think.

 

I'm not sure where it was but I remember reading on a blog that the actor that plays Finn said that one of the hardest parts of his playing Finn was the lightsaber training cause the lightsaber props were very heavy. I found this odd sinse I thought that Finn wouldn't be a Jedi. Why give a dude lightsaber training if he's just going to swat the thing around in the movie? Another thing that I find funny is that though all hopes point to Rey being a Jedi, there have been no actual pics of her with a lightsaber at all.
