It looks as if both are "yes" men for Disney.

JJ is good at both pleasing the studio and fans.

Rian is just..... weak. Easy to bully. Hell, he's so scared of upsetting Disney that he'll willingly write scenes with space horses.. and put laughably inoffensive lines like "Let's go, chrome dome!"

I doubt we'll ever see a true creative get control over Star Wars again.

One thing is for certain, this film has produced a lot of inane hyperbole.

RJ did a great job with the story he was given. RJ was given a Luke that didn't come back to rescue his friends. RJ was given a story that had to start right from the end of TFA. RJ was given a nostalgia trip filled with mystery boxes and crafted an excellent film with a lot of surprises.

For years I heard "Rey will be a Skywalker because Disney wouldn't let RJ make that film." This whole Disney hobgoblin is so shallow. Lucasfilm is making these films and RJ made the film he wanted.

I think the hardest thing for kylo and Rey to hear would have been that they were brother and sister. Therefore ren would have killed the father she never had, and would have been indirectly responsible for leias death. ( i would have had her go sometime in the space battle. Or fail to wake up from the coma)

Still would have had the story with Luke and Ben, I just would have gone into more detail - Ben discovering Vader was his grandfather, still having the darkness in him, dreams of losing his family(which he would inadvertently cause), snoke twisting his mind until Ben snapped after Luke confronted him.

And to wrap it all off, have Rey being hidden away because of snoke OR have snoke be the one that manipulated the situation to get control (thus making either kylo turn on him or Rey Join the dark side).

If they had decided to kill off Luke, it would have been nicer to have him go out like a badass with ol' green take down a few walkers then face kylo ren, give his all, realise he can't win so stall for time then have ren savagely beat him down to put kylo over as the top bad guy. Then move the snoke death scene to the end of the film or episode 9

Last time I checked, JJ let Finn ask Rey if she had a "cute boyfriend". I don't think it matters who's directing Disney's sequels, you're still gonna have Disney invoke cheesy stuff here and there.

Rey Skywalker team, we are rigid in minds,

Rey randomers think they are not rigid,

But not Rian Johnson. He is above all this.

The flexibility of the Last Jedi for interpretation at the end gives the biggest credit to mr. Johnson.

He has done his vision, and even if Rey will be full blooded Skywalker in ep IX it will be perfectly logical looking ep. VIII retrospectively, just as if she indeed is no one as said in the film.

Rian Johnson wanted his film. He knows that Rey random is not that advanced actually to be famed because it, since Anakin Skywalker was also a random. That's why he gives to the dark side to tell this story.
Just as well as he knew that by giving to millions a new Skywalker, in that moment would give a little, and take away much from his film and eventualy from ep IX.

Rian wanted the drama and surprise, which he acheived.

And uncertainty he certainly has acheived, without uncertainty left, especially about Rey, his film (as a part of trilogy) would be a faliure.

    @McDiarmid

Shmi was chosen by the Force.

Rey is just like Stable Boy. A nobody.

I will say that Luke is 30-40% NOT Rian's fault, but he didn't have to automatically make him the way he did..

Luke could have retreated there just a year before The Force Awakens for example. Not 30 years or whatever the film suggests.

That's what i'm saying, JJ can do it with style and make the good outweight the bad.. unlike other directors.

He has only been on Ach-Too for about 6 years as he was still with his academy during the events of Bloodline. (As far as we know though it could be a couple of years earlier depending on when the events with Ben happened but I would say a maximum of 8 years going by how Ben looks in that flashback.

I think Bloodline & the desecration of the Saga, i mean Luke attacking Ben take place the same year.

LOL, you should stop listening to loud voices and go see the film. It actually takes guts to do what he did.

My son told me that for him it was the most ambitious, intelligent and noneconformistic SW film he has seen so far. His opinion reminds me what Lucas told us once:".. I have done it for the kids .."
The Generation < 14 should have their own chance to become inspired to start their own rebellion. Like Luke, frustrated people of the elder generation will not offer much help. They will have to find their own way.
Thanks for your courage Rian Johnson.

So I wonder how long until the first movie in Rian's trilogy comes out?
I hope we get an announcement about that soon.

I hope him & KK find those "creative differnces". He can direct, but his storey telling is wack.

Well if they have "creative differences", I don't think he would be kept around to direct.
