If they keep their schedule - one standalone, one trilogy movie - and actually confirm Obi-Wan movie, the earliest we will see it is in 2021 (2019 -EPIX, 2020 - Obi-Wan, 2021 - First movie in Rian's trilogy).

Excellent point... It seems like people make a huge stink over Disney's influence over Star Wars which doesn't exist in any other Disney owned property. You don't hear anyone complaining about what Disney has done to ESPN or the Marvel movies. I get that there is a general concern that Lucas turned over the keys of the kingdom and whether they are caring for it properly. But if you are going to do that you have to really examine what Lucas was doing with the franchise at the end of his career, not just the beginning. So far the ST is major upgrade to the PT in every category (acting, directing, dialogue, special effects, etc.). Even without the comparison to the prequels, I think the ST and TLJ in particular will stand the test of time as a great Star Wars film for everything Star Wars is and has been... including being a bit cheesy from time to time.

I do not think we should discard episode III .
That film is techically - flawless.

Anyway , let us hope ep IX will wrap sequel triology without damaging the trilogies is was built upon , its not standalone trilogy but one built on Lucas acheivements , I think its fair(and beneficial for Box office!) to follow some obligations until end of ep IX..

.its just one season, one more film...

And than, after this wrapped, I am eager to see Rian Johnsons creativity at work in his entirely new triology...now that will be pleasure and without obligations.

ROTS was definitely the best of the three but I wouldn't call it flawless. Almost every scene between Anakin and Padme was cringe-worthy. Really HC's performance as Anakin was entirely underwhelming. Take him out of the equation and it is an excellent movie.

But I digress... yes, I'm also eager to see what RJ will do with an entire trilogy at his disposal. Hopefully those movies won't ruin anyone's childhood! ;)

Pablo Hidalgo confirmed on twitter today that the ST is basically a slight reworking of George Lucas’ treatment. The ST is closer to Lucas’ vision than originally thought.

Please don't do this in here. Leaked original Lucas vision of lost island with the first Jedi temple is already considered to be 735:1 better looking than one we got in TLJ....:p

Hopefully by then, the outrage for TLJ and Rian will have died down.

And cue the haters who are going to say it’s because TLJ sucked and Lucasfilm is having second thoughts. 1,2,3....

I can understand why they made those changes. Lucas’ version would’ve had a million characters.

Because he hasn't written it yet. So far, all they've committed to is "a trilogy of movies that will explore a story we've never seen" and there aren't specifics beyond that. 2021 is the most likely release window for the first movie.
That's wishful thinking on the part of someone who didn't like TLJ talking. As I've said earlier, they've already stated that they're committed to doing a trilogy of movies, but there's too little to go off of beyond that. The movies are in early development and we likely won't hear more about them for months, if not years.

Lucasfilm have gone on record saying that they love working with him, so he's not going anywhere. Granted, Disney corporate could intervene and kick him out, but there's little precedent for them to do so. It would be an absolute PR disaster for Lucasfilm if they fired him from these movies considering that he's one of the only directors that they've hired that they didn't run into any problems with. So Rian Johnson is absolutely directing at least the first film.

    > He doesn't know that TESB was incredibly divisive upon release.

Much to learn, you still have. < :

Not to mention that this is a false equivalence. It would be more along the lines of J. J. Abrams directing Rogue One after The Force Awakens - the film has nothing to do with the movie he already made.

And relations between Kershner and Lucas on the set of TESB were... tense.
