If Snoke was faking his death then surely he would make it realistic, wouldn't he? Luke can change his age and conjure Han Solo's dice in a force projection but Snoke can't make a convincing "I'm dead face"? Pretty unlikely if you ask me.

I'll refer to the famous Monty Python Dead Snoke scetch

'E's not pinin'! 'E's passed on! This supreme leader is no more! He has ceased to be! 'E's expired and gone to meet 'is maker! 'E's a stiff! Bereft of life, 'e rests in peace! 'Is metabolic processes are now 'istory! 'E's off the twig! 'E's kicked the bucket, 'e's shuffled off 'is mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin' choir invisible!! THIS IS AN EX-SNOKE!!

    Seriously, he's dead.

Don’t get me wrong. He’s an amazing character, the most interesting Star Wars character in decades. I can see him being a complex ruler of the galaxy as well. But I feel like the way they are setting up IX, there must be more, that more will be revealed.

I really don't think Snoke is dead. I mean, this dude was flinging the entire cast around like they were NOTHING to him. There's no way Kylo's coy trick did him in so easily.

He was tricked. He seen Kylo using the lighting saber to strike down his true enemy, and he did.

Luke’s projection was not hurt and cut in half.

The dictionary was likely a leaked ploy. As a marketer myself, we are trained to think outside the box to compete with consumer intelligence.

I think Snokes entire role was to be the catalyst for Ren fall.

I wish I could remember his complete dialogue about how he can't be betrayed, killed, etc...it makes it seem like overconfidence but he may not be dead. I'm not totally sure yet.

I lean towards Kylo somehow was able to deceive Snoke.

Also didn't he touch Rey's face in his hands?

DBD36453-7F83-4743-9AB6-CF3CBCE8C81E.png As far as I’m concerned, #PlagueisConfirmed is more likely than ever!

Plagueis force illusions (non canon novel) and now Luke force projections. Plagueis is so powerful. He faked his death and deceived Sidious using force projection power. Now either Kylo has killed him or he’s become some form of force ghost. Rey’s story is to rebuild the Jedi Order and destroy Kylo Ren - both Luke and Leia have given up on him, that’s so clear now. Luke/Anakin need destroy Plagueis from “beyond the grave” now we know that force ghosts (Yoda hitting Luke in TLJ is proof!) can physically interact and become more powerful than we can possibly imagine!

This is ultimately the Skywalker’s story - and Rey has been set up to start things over.

I’ll be back in a year to push Team Plagueis all the way and win this war once and for all. For now, let’s just enjoy this magnificent film!

They were focusing all their force power on one person - Emperor was frying Luke with Vader standing behind him and Snoke was force gripping Rey in front of Kylo with a clear view of what was going to play out.

If it was Yoda, a powerful Jedi master. You can strikes him down when he was pulling a X-Wing outta water. He won’t sense it coming.

However powerful they all might be. They’re only limited to using one force power at a time.

They couldn’t sense the surroundings around them changing in an instant. What’s done is done. It was too late.

I believe Snoke is done. No projection, no cheap move.

Maybe Snoke left a body behind to 100% convince people he was dead. No corpse=no dice.
    --- Double Post Merged, Dec 15, 2017, Original Post Date: Dec 15, 2017 ---
The fact that they actually point this out, In an official guide no less, is a huge point in this theory favour.

Snoke is the man behind the projection. Like the wizard in OZ!

I think what we have seen in this new trilogy so far is that things aren't massively being elaborated on as the fast pace of these new films doesn't allow for it. If he suddenly came back to life and did a Darth Maul that would confuse the mass audience for the final film. It would loose all credibility with the mass audience and confuse matters in a film that's closing off a trilogy.

Plus the final film is about Kylo Ren as the main bad guy. The only other main villains I can see alongside him is Hux and maybe the Knights of Ren taking over the henchmen role from Phasma.

There is no longer any place for Snoke in this story the way things are moving with Ren. He is now the Supreme Leader.

.......as Snoke is also very dead.

Smokes death scene is an illusion.

First, Andy Serkis recently said in an interview that Snoke was much more powerful than Sidious.

Second, the movie takes great pains in the final act to show us that we the audience, and the characters in the movie themselves, can be deceived by an illusion - i.e. when Luke appears to physically present be on Crait, but is in actual fact not really there at all.

It is possible that Snoke’s presence in the throne room (and his apparent ‘death’) was due to an even more powerful and potent illusion.

The following is about Darth Plagueis:

“Plagueis was a potent sorcerer that could create Force-illusions that encroached on reality so that even Sidious couldn't say if it was reality or a mere illusion.”

“Skilled in the more unorthodox applications of the force, Darth Plagueis was skilled in conjuring Force illusions, convincing enough to fool even Palpatine.”

Now let’s look at Snoke’s name.

Snoke is similar to two words - Snake and Smoke.

    Snake = Deception

Smoke - is often used in illusions

There is the phrase “Smoke and mirrors” - an idiom for a deceptive, fraudulent or insubstantial explanation or description. The source of the name is based on magicians' illusions.

I believe there are two scenes in The Last Jedi that set out to deceive us - the first is Snoke’s apparent ‘death’ and the second is Rey’s Cave Scene where she is confronted with a mirror image of herself when she is seeking an answer regarding her parentage (I do not believe her parents were drunk scrapyard dealers).

    “Snoke and Mirrors” indeed.

We've outlined various reasons for why Snoke may not be dead. Darth maul doesn't count, he came back in rebels right? Or another animated side show? In that case, modern audiences probably don't care or won't even remember him because he was also in that dumpster fire TPM (even if he was probably best bit about it.)

Audience won't be confused if it's explained well. It's like "I am your father moment"-still can be emotional impact if executed well.

Kylo Ren will struggle to be main bad guy material. If it's him and Hux bickering all the time, then they will both quickly become boring as enemies.

Unless Snoke comes back like this theory outlines and wrecks everyone sh*t up, he can have a place in the story by using Ren to draw out all the light force of the Galaxy. I will admit, the motive or "why" part of this theory is its weakest point.

Awesome post! Instant like for new Snoke pun.

Although I think the film hammered in that Rey's parents really are "nobody" in that they aren't related to any main people.

Yeah, I'm focussing on the Snoke thing now as opposed to Rey, as I think there is a lot going on regarding him.

In an article from the beginning fo December, interviewing Andy Serkis. Serkis says:

“Snoke is the dark end of the Force.. he has his own agenda. He’s a cruel manipulator."

He was then asked whether Snoke was more powerful than Darth Vader or Palpatine. Remember, Anakin (before he became Vader) was supposed to have the potential to balance the Force and had an incredible Midichlorian rating. He was asked “Is Snoke really more powerful than that?”

Serkis gave the unequivocal reply: “Oh, without question. He has limitless resources, let’s put in that way.”

Interesting. I hope we get more of Serkis. He's a great guy and actor.

"Limitless resources"=faking my death is no biggie. I have projections/multiple bodies.

I don't see as a possibility that all this has to be exposed via dialog in IX.
