    So I didn't see anything already posted... MakingStarWars has another concept art teaser out about the pirates. One of the pirates appears to be Montross, which would lend to the pirate base being on Ridley's planet... there is some tie ins with pirates and chrome trooper armour, which could either mean the pirates are the chromies, or they are engaged against the chromies... but here is the link, check it out.

    I think this is a serious level of scum... the type Han would know from the old days... which could be why he is on the planet where Ridley is

    Way way way back in the day, one of the original concepts for the OT was enlisting the smugglers to aid against the Empire. This could be a recycle of that theme.

    "A dash Star Wars, a dash Mad Max".... Sorry, I want a dollop Star Wars, and nothing else.

    There is a tiny alarm bell ringing in my mind (and it is only tiny) because some of the concept art made me think Mad Max and some Tank Girl and some Heavy Metal and, well, I just don't want any of those things, tbh.

    On the positive, I'm sure it will all be fine and in the movie they'll be known as 'Marauders' or 'Scoundrels' and be fun and not at all like the crew in Alien: Resurrection or Firefly.... :oops:

    About the chrome trooper bits...I think that pirate is actually an ex-imperial knight of some sort, perhaps a few of them are. There was mention of a white light saber in the concept of a different pirate. That piece, along with rumors of plot being similar to the Legacy comics, as well as the leaked concept of the chrome trooper being very similar to imperial Knights makes me think the script has borrowed and re-envisioned them, or at one point considered using them. It might be cool to see a cross between the McQuarrie stormtroopers with sabers and the imperial Knights; it would be even cooler to see an old veteran become the Blackbeard of a group of space pirates.

    If the pirates are ex-chrome troopers/Imperials, do you think that's who Boyega is trying to contact. Are we going to see a twist on Luke wanting to leave a desert world to join the academy by having Boyega leave the academy to join a 'gang' on a desert world? Interesting....

    Could somebody set me right regarding my confusion about these pirates: am I right in remembering a set schematic for a pirate lair that seemed to also be in a location similar to the Massassi Base? Trying to figure out if these villains are based on a desert or jungle planet :)

    Are they villains? Ok, Pirates in movies usually start as a threat then join the heroes to fight a greater common enemy. As someone above said, that was slated for the OT--I see that being the case here: threat-ally-friend-hearties. :D

    Pirate's Cove with Xwings? Rebels turned scoundrels?

    I think they are a rogue group... my old theory was that these are the chromies, and that they are with Luke... looking shakier if the pirates are on the same planet as Ridley.. but they may still be the chromies. Rogue group of remnants?

    There was a post somewhere stating that the Greenham set was separate from the Pirate Cove... although the terms that were being used were sometimes rather confusing as to which and what was being referenced where

    The schematics must just be for a general overview of set build requirements. So, at a rough guess, the Pirate Cove is inside a large cave in the desert, perhaps at the edge of a dried-up (Dune) sea?

    Oh, I am fairly certain that this links the Pirate Base to the Massassi temple on Yavin IV, the references on the schematic just point too close to it. This was one of the reasons I was thinking Luke was with them... it would be random if the Rebels took it because it was abandoned, then a remnant faction happened on it after they abandoned it...
