It does say "A Legacy Set 'Massassi Temple'." Would that be Yavin, or is Massassi Temple now used as a generic term for Rebel Base?

Ah, I see. The 'Map Room' reference did have me confused, as I was undecided whether it referred to the Yavin IV pre-Death Star Battle briefing, or some piece of pirate tech on a different planet/moon to help them navigate secret areas of the space lanes.

Good question! Might be used as a term of reference for the building of a similar Rebel starfighter base on a different world, but it does look, from the concept art, too similar to be a different entity, or an incredible geographical coincidence that the Rebels have again chosen an ancient temple in a jungle/forest. Seems like a jungle because there's suggestions of damp and humidity.

So is the snowy forest world Yavin? That would be interesting, to return to a familiar world during a different season. (Albeit a world we saw very little of.)

    So...
Was it not a rumour where the black dressed figure, with the revanesque mask and that sword looking lightsaber...was in the company of these chromies?

    What would that make him?
    Pirate leader?

Or more of a leader over a own maybe ...gone rouge troops of imperials.
A Sith Lord on the rise...or so like?

    At a guess...

"Pier" is the hanger area, leading out...

"Map Room" is where they monitored the battle on the first Death Star.

"Dusty Back Room" odd that they would note that on the map, so it has to be for something...

"Passageway" leads further into the temple... where I was expecting Luke to be in the throneroom, but... since that is the "stage north tunnel" it leads somewhere

But to tie this in to it being Yavin IV, look in the upper left. "pier and map room composite (E & H stage Pinewood) & Legacy Set 'Massassi Temple' (H stage Shepperton"

Shepperton was where they filmed the rebel base scenes for ANH. Here is an interview with an extra from the OT talking about being at Shepperton (another version here) with studio tour information here

No doubt we'll all find amusement in how simply these locations fit together once we've read the screenplay :)

    These Pirates Know Han!
Some may still hold a grudge and others still have a bounty on him - maybe commissioned by the Hutts. They are true mercenaries - violent and mean with no other driving force than to survive. They are wearing outfits comprised of various stolen weapons and armor... A storm troopers bracers, a Jedi's tunic, a Wookie's bowcaster, and a cortosis sword. They are men for hire with little regard for their prey, and when they confront Han he will have to bargain for his life. We will never be sure of their true intentions unitl EP-IX but they will most likely come through to save the day in true star wars fashion - at the last minute! I think one of our new lead actors' character will be a leader of sorts in this rag-tag group, and he will be the new "Solo-Type" hero that carryies into the new SW era. Oscar Iasac's I think... All speculative, of course!

Other than the obvious "it was there, we took it" mentality... why would they choose that location?

Wonder if these pirates are the connective tissue between Han and Daisy's characters, all being 'fringers' although Han is the more respectable of the bunch.

Why does that location wtill exist? Why didn't the Empire blitz it after the Death Star was destroyed in a show of (admittedly much diminished) strength and a strike against the Rebellion. But then, maybe that's what made the place attractive to the Pirates: they knew the Rebels had fled so there wasn't likely to be any Imperial interest in the place. Maybe?

Or this could be the flashback and the Rebels took the base from the Pirates, who have been lying low and waiting for an opportunity to HAVE THEIR REVENGE!!!! Yo-Ho-Ho-Da!

This post is perfection. Thanks, Marc. Your speculation is usually great, but this is on another level.

Sounds like they're all human. What does that suggest? Anything?

So we have the remnants of the Empire, a rebuilding Republic, Pirates and possibly Sith.... Wow, lot going on in this movie!

Not sure what it all means, but I want a space pirates spinoff with these guys, like yesterday.

Pirates of the Caribbean meets Star Wars... that has box office gold written all over it. Scoff all you want, but Star Wars needs personality badly. And humor sells... look at Guardians. If they play their cards right, these space pirates can become their own franchise.

I was sad that there would be no Lando in TFA... and Han may kick the bucket... so there goes the badboy edge/humor. But now that you mention these space pirates in connection with Oscar Isaac, my faith is renewed. The SW films need these scoundrel types to take the edge off the heavier stuff.

Also it would make sense for Han's daughter to fall for a scummy scoundrel type (just like her old man) despite the fact that Han and Leia likely DO NOT want that to happen. To which Isaac will sing "Whatcha gotta be sooo rude... Don't you know I'm human too..." lolz

I can see Oscar Isaac being a part of this crew, I like that more then Isaac is a soldier or Isaac is a Mandalorian.

They could be the band that attacks Boyega after he crash lands and/or people who end up helping Team Solo get off planet accidentally or intentionally.

If Ridley knows MvS, and he is Montross, and Montross is a pirate... then Ridley could be tied in to them... an alternative is that Boyega is a pirate flying a stolen fighter

My old theory was that Boyega was a pupal of Luke (although not knowing him as "Luke", as Luke is presumed dead) and Ridley blames the pirates for Luke's death... when she finds Boyega, she goes in search of the Warlord looking for Luke's killer... unaware that he is Luke..How much that changes now... potentially not much. I think Luke is the tie in for the reason the pirates are at the Massassii temple in the first place.

However, Boyega could be the pirate, he gets shot down, MvS (the local pirate connection) convinces Ridley to help, she goes in to town to find passage and meets Han and Chewie...

I do think it's telling that one of the pirates apparently holds a lightsaber. They could be defected Imperial knights, just like (supposedly) Boyega.
