As more and more people are getting to see The Last Jedi a general consensus is starting to form and it’s not good for the film going forward. After a weekend where box office records were set there is a general feeling of disappointment starting to emerge.

Many people truly dislike this film and the general direction it took. At best it’s polarizing and at worst it’s hated. It seems many people are leaving the cinema both a little angry and somewhat sad. Maybe it wasn’t a great idea to continue killing off the classic characters that people wanted to see and most identify with the franchise.

Some early warning signs are starting to pop up

    - The anti Last Jedi petition that was considered a joke 24 hours ago now has a whopping 40,000+ signatures and is growing nearly every second
    https://www.change.org/p/the-walt-d...tar-wars-episode-viii-from-the-official-canon

    - Box office is down significantly from The Force Awakens...TLJ’s first Tuesday is down a huge 42% from that of The Force Awakens
    http://www.showbiz411.com/2017/12/1...eceipts-are-half-as-much-as-the-force-awakens

    - Rotten Tomatoes audience score is 54% which is the lowest in the series behind the universally hated Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones
    https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/star_wars_the_last_jedi
    https://www.rottentomatoes.com/franchise/star_wars_saga/

Also, despite what many people are suggesting Rotten Tomatoes is standing by the accuracy of their TLJ numbers
    https://screenrant.com/rotten-tomatoes-last-jedi-user-score/

    - Metacritic is giving the film a rating of 4.8 With 1,806 negative review, 1,600 positive reviews and 542 mixed reviews
    http://www.metacritic.com/movie/star-wars-episode-viii---the-last-jedi/user-reviews

I’m not saying the The Last Jedi is going to be a flop, it clearly isn’t and will in fact be a major hit...That said this is not the Star Wars film that people wanted to see and it’s box office and long term reputation may suffer...It offers unsatisfying/underwhelming answers to questions posed by TFA. It mishandles and then kills arguably the most popular character in the history of film and is in general a bloated mess...All and all it’s not exactly a crowd pleaser.

The audience scores for both rotten tomatoes and metacritic have had some issues with people using bots in order to give it a worse score. I myself was a little disappointed with the movie, but after letting it sink in, I love it. The same was the case with la la land, unrelated but still a movie. There are a lot of elements used that fans might have missed, our beautiful moments that are disregarded because it was different than what they were used to, or ended one of their theories. My advice would be for people to just see it again and look for those moments and forget their expectations.

    It's still a joke.
    This isn't true.
These online user polls are easy to manipulate. It's a measure of fan boy outrage, but not overall audience reaction. Basically it's a good measure of trolls.

This is basically the same thread at the RT thread.

HA HA HA HA! A bunch of fanboy hatred on internet sites (where you don't have to see the movie to vote) is not a "backlash". TLJ is a deep movie and will be more appreciated than many of the other movies as time passes.

As I said in another thread, the box office numbers will tell the true tale in a week or two. If the $$$ being made drops significantly then there's no denying it. People will rate this with their money. The box office numbers and scores on web sites won't change my mind, I didn't like it.

Yeah that's not true at all. Your commentary seems very bias. Akin to a news segment presenting "facts" while pushing a side and an agenda.

At its worst, the film is hated. At its best, it is loved.

You have to remember that their was backlash for ESB from both critics and fans. False expectation is probably the deadliest thing for a movie with a large fanbase

It is absolutely true that the box office is down 42% compared to the same date of The Force Awakens. Please see the link
    http://www.showbiz411.com/2017/12/1...eceipts-are-half-as-much-as-the-force-awakens

Rotten Tomatoes has come out in the last several hours to say that their numbers in regards to The Last Jedi are correct. It is not bots doing this
    https://screenrant.com/rotten-tomatoes-last-jedi-user-score/

That petition may not be a worthy petition, but the fact is people are signing it at a rapid pace. It’s up to 42,000 people. When I came on this site roughly an hour ago it was slightly over 40,000.

The general public does not love this movie

Films are subjective... I understand the pain of losing Luke, but alas even Jedi pass on, Qui-Gon, OB1, Yoda, Anakin, and now Luke...

It is polarizing because it’s a great film, Star Wars have always been huge popcorn movies, Empire being the exception, Empire had some layers. TLJ is just such a layered film, very subtle. You have got pay attention to every line of dialogue! It’s a great film in a film sense, some Star Wars fans are turned off by that, and that’s okay, it doesn’t mean it’s a bad film.

You can't be serious about this? LOL http://deadline.com/2017/12/star-wa...c-imdb-users-cinemascore-posttrak-1202228837/

And there's absolutly a reassonable reason and the film is doing great, but it doesn't fit your narrative.
    http://deadline.com/2017/12/star-wars-the-last-jedi-tuesday-rakes-in-20-4m-1202230506/

It's not and you should be embarrassed that you're linking to it as if it means anything.

It was obvious that RT would not admit that their system has been compromised, it would affect their image as trusty review website ( it doesnt matter if are positive or negative review bots or whatsoever), but is what most of the companies do, they protect their image and brand

I'm mostly okay with the film, but there are lots of things which I feel should have been rewritten.

From dialogue, to small details in action scenes.. it wasn't thought through properly.

The coincidental thing where everyone was on the same ship at once.. it was cheesy. It's poorly made in places, a lot of the CGI is poor.

He should not be allowed to make a spinoff trilogy.. and Lucasfilm needs to start doing rough cut test screenings to brutally honest fans.

All I’m doing is stating facts

    Fact #1
TLJ is down 42% in comparison to the same day of TFA’s release...Please see the Drudge Report as it is currently one of the top stories being reported there
    http://www.showbiz411.com/2017/12/1...eceipts-are-half-as-much-as-the-force-awakens
    http://www.drudgereport.com

Fact #2 Rotten Tomatoes denies their numbers are wrong and in fact came out with a public statement that their numbers are accurate
    https://screenrant.com/rotten-tomatoes-last-jedi-user-score/

    Fact # 3
Over 40,000 people have signed this petition (which I do think is dopey) Im not saying it’s a good idea, but people are going out of their way to make their voice heard against this film. By this time tomorrow well over 50,000 people will have signed it.

Fact 1 was already answered and Disney and Lucasfilm expected that
Fact 2 also answered RT would not admit it that something is wrong because that would damage their reputation
    Fact 3 Petition are worthless
