*Slow clap.* ...And how many of those reviewers didn't love it "enough", in your sublime opinion? How many of them that discuss things that you don't particularly appreciate are, in your opinion, chaotic-evil trolls, or straight-out play part in a conspiracy? What rating is a troll rating, already? 80%? 79%?

Like, we seem to be watching two different movies, here, Sir. But none of them has anything to do with Star Wars.

    @master_shaitan

    I will address your points.

    1) When you meant he, do you mean George Lucas or RIan Johnson, because I'm confused as to who you are referring too? So really, I'm not going to answer this until I get clarification.

    2) Snoke in terms of design I found boring. He looked too much like a Voldemort reject. I will concede that the CGI on him in TLJ was very good. And I liked Andy Serkis' performance in the voice and candor. I just think as a whole package in terms of character, Snoke for me was just meh. An Emperor 2.0. Hence, why I wasn't too shaken by the twist. Hopefully, that clears up my stance.

For, to be honest, I wished that Kylo Ren was the main antagonist at the start. For Kylo Ren is basically Darth Cadeus. But I appreciated the movie making him the antagonist. It's a reverse if Darth Vader was the main antagonist all along.

    3) I'm going to point you to this video:

Namely, 5:45 where David goes over the argument that Rey's story has yet to be told in that it is a giant case of special pleading/ apologists. And while I wasn't really that invested in knowing( I don't like mystery box storytelling), the fans who were invested and their disappointment is valid.

People have every right to judge a movie by what they see and not what is to come. And really, in the case of The Last Jedi, given that immense setup from The Force Awakens, it leaves that impression in these fans' mind that some of these big questions were going to be answered. And really hammers my point that this ST is super inconsistent in that regard.

Why build up that all important setup and barely address it? For granted, there are those people who have unrealistic expectations. But really if there are those people who do not trust LF and do not want to check out Nine, I can't blame them.

And note I enjoyed The last Jedi a lot. For me, it was a step up from The Force Awakens even if I didn't agree with all the choices. But really, I am starting to see a flaw with this ST in that there is a lack of consistency. The OT had this, but there was a consistent plotline and characters.

The "Half in the Bag"-reviews are serious but are done in a funny way. You should know this if you know what Red Letter Media is doing.

You deliberately picked the lowest point of BO take, and ignored the high point (those pesky HUGE weekend numbers), to contrast and compare two different films with wildly different BO reasoning, and to argue for the dislike and severe drop of TLJ. It's too early.

You are completely missing the point. The film came out of the gates like gangbusters, but once word got out the film has been declining. People seemingly aren’t liking this movie as much as others in the series...When I present numbers (Rotten Tomatoes for example) people blame it on bots etc, isn’t it possible that the general audience is disappointed in this film?

Almost all of my friends love the movie.

In fact, I don't think I've met anyone in person who hasn't.

I'm sure that there are people who do genuinely dislike it, but I think the weird MRA/neckbeard campaign against it greatly misrepresents the actual public's feelings.

    Also, regarding opening night tickets-

    TLJ actually did pretty amazingly.

It's tough for a sequel to sell better than the original film.
Especially so when the original is the return of Star Wars after over a decade- and for some, the Return of Star Wars after almost 35 years, depending on their perspective.

    From Latino Review:

“ However, as soon as audiences got their eyes on it, they were incredibly vocal about their displeasure for the film. Very quickly, it became a big story that audiences and critics didn’t necessarily agree on whether or not it was a good movie.

"Given how passionate fans on our site alone have rallied against Star Wars: The Last Jedi, it’s not hard to believe they’d mobilize to express their disappointment"

Rotten Tomatoes has again come out in defense of their numbers about TLJ...I tend to believe them over some nerd who claims to have sabotaged their site and others like it.

I like Umberto, but he does scoops. He's not a reliable reviewer or box office guy. He gets awesome scoops over at LR though.

I think that he was just pointing out that he has been getting very polarizing opinions about the film on his site. In his own words a lot of fans have a sense of “disappointment” over it

Thank you for your kind response. It's interesting that you refer to Star Wars as King Arthur in space. In another thread I referred to Darth Vader as Heathcliff, basically the Wuthering Heights story, which is why I also liked ROTS. He feels betrayed by his woman, gets angry, she dies, and out of rage, spite & a broken heart he destroys everything and everyone he comes into contact with- family most of all. That scene where Anakin is pacing back and forth like a wild animal over Padme's body and he roars at Obi Wan "I will not let you take her from me!" Well- that's primal. It looks the gods themselves are about to do battle- and they do. They tear the universe apart.

Of course, it's well-known that GL studied the works on myth & religion by Joseph Campbell, These themes are pervasive in all cultures because they hit certain notes that resonate with in all of us. And that is why SW, especially the OT, has such a following. GL knew what made us tick from a very academic point of view and translated it to film. That was genius in and of itself.

I hope you sleep better attacking people and trying to label people you have never met and don't know. I sense a lot of anger in you. Anger leads to hate. Shocked at your behavior.

Deny it all you want, but until now Star Wars was a white man’s playground of characters. It’s not that way anymore. And that starts showing the true colors of some in the fandom.[/QUOTE]

What a load of crap. I couldn’t care less what color, creed or sex any of the actors are in the Star Wars film or any other film for that matter. I for one welcome the diversity of the cast and enjoy the great actors who portray these characters...On the other hand, please don’t take out the race card just because some fans didn’t enjoy this picture as much they hoped that they would. I for one never gave a seconds worth of thought to the ethnicity of the actors.

I simply didn’t like where they took the story and mainly the direction and fate of Luke Skywalker. That has ZERO to do with anyones race.

Just in case you were referring to me, note that I did acknowledge that I'm sure many people have legitimate grievances against the film.

The "neckbeard" comment was in reference the the reddit MRA threads where groups were confirmed to be spamming RT with low scores because they disliked the message of the film. It certainly does not apply to all who have criticisms of the film.
