Timing for Han Solo Teaser Trailer?

No chance for a Super Bowl Solo commercial.
As I mentioned on another board, Disney is not going to add $5m+ to the already massive loss they'll be taking on this movie.

 

But if they don't market this film, then the loss would be even bigger because of lack of public awareness of the film. Personally I would find it very interesting if a major studio would have released a blockbuster with no marketing campaign, but I don't think Disney would try such a thing with Solo.

 

I don't think that they won't do any marketing for this movie. It's quite peculiar to be down to less than 4 months and not have anything released to build anticipation for the film but to I don't know what the strategy would be for not doing any promotion. You have to go back to the Wing Commander movie in 1999 to find a theatrically released movie that did not have a trailer showing in theaters before it opened, only TV spots aired in the few weeks before it came out. It just happened to have a full trailer for Episode 1 that was shipped to theaters for inclusion on the print which drew people in to buy a ticket to see that, otherwise it would have totally bombed at the box office.

At this point I have to imagine that the trailer will be released either right before Black Panther or premiere with it, although the latter seems highly unlikely as the days of trailers being attached to films before being released online are far behind us. If Black Panther opens and there's nothing for Solo then I would really start to worry.

 

The Winter Olympics is almost unwatchable....which is why I never watch it. Too many judged events, where cheating is rampant and unhindered.
A possible (and stupidly late) trailer for a marginal film that I don't really want to see will not persuade me otherwise.

 

This post is not meant to single you out, but over the past few months I've heard:

"If there's nothing at the 6 month mark, I will really start to worry...."
"If there's nothing attached to The Last Jedi, I will really start to worry...."
"If we don't get it in mid-January as is rumored, I will really start to worry...."
"If we don't get it during the Super Bowl, I will really start to worry...."
"If we don't get it for Black Panther, I will really start to worry...."

 

Don't forget the folks who are in here posting and claiming that they don't even want to see it.

 

I think they wanted The last Jedi to be out of the way for the Han Solo marketing. Given that they expected longer legs for TLJ marketing will probably start in a few weeks. As someone pointed out, comparing the timelines between Rogue One and Han Solo, they just left out the teaser.

 

That R1 teaser was very different from the film too. Was like a teaser for an alternate take on the story.

 

Maybe for fans it seems weird that we don't have a trailer yet or so. But for general audience maybe is not that bad idea to separate it as much as possible from the Last Jedi marketing season.
We have since mid october trailer, spots, news and all the things related with The Last Jedi in every corner of internet, TV or streets. So probably they really wanted some fresh air between one movie an the next. Imagine if they start with marketing in mid january: general audience would be like: another star wars movie already? I guess it is just business...

 

Yeah, the teaser had almost no scenes from the finished film.

 

Seriously? You have commercial breaks in the Olympics?

 

Cheaters and liars... Sounds like the kind of scum that Han would want promoting his film.

 

You need to watch the Olympic Men's Ice Hockey. That's where all the good stuff is at. Most of the games are intense.

We can't even get live recordings of the events. But yes, they play commercials for events that has already happen.

 

Agreed on Olympic hockey. I also love competitive figure skating (because my daughter is a competitive skater) and most if not all of the skiing events. I'd be good with a marketing campaign for Solo during this - but I also think they will tag it to Panther. Not sure about the Super Bowl spot.

 

I love hockey plus majority of the NHL players play for their home country and a lot of times, you'll have teammates play against each other. Not much of a figure skater person but I do enjoy watching people do tricks on skis and snowboards. I was on Team Superbowl but I think it is very doubtful. It would of been leaked by now as you can find most of the commercials online already. Opening Ceremony for the Olympics would be prime spot, but i'm not holding my breath. I do think it will be tagged with Black Panther because there is a lot of anticipation for this movie not just to supplement Infinity War but for the black community as well. At this point, I think people are just throwing darts and hoping one of them will stick.

 

No mention from TSWS. I think this diminishes the Super Bowl chances IMO

 

It doesn't. If they drop it during Super Bowl, it's still too early for an official confirmation. They announce all their trailers like a day in advance.

 

The year is 2019. Episode 9 is only a few months away. The Kenobi stand-alone film is confirmed for 2020 with Ewan McGregor returning as Obi-wan. Meanwhile, the Solo trailer has yet to drop...
