I spotted crazy Aunt Lisa (Moon Door) from GOT.... as one of the FO “operators”

 

Captain Canady in the opening act was great.

i love this exchange. why does Canday need Hux to tell him his job?
and people are saying Hux is incompetent.

 

I think the implication is he is under orders from Hux to not launch the attack. or at least the derision in Canady's voice leads me to think that.
Between that and snickering at Hux, I think people respect Hux less than more...
The line from Snoke about keeping a "rabid cur" like Hux around because he's easy to manipulate tells me that many may not feel Hux is worthy of the position Snoke has given him...but he's easy to control so Snoke likes him there.

The Resistance going on a white planet like the Rebellion on Hoth. The V-4X-D Ski Speeder that the Resistance uses against the AT-M6 Walkers, like how the Rebellion used the T-47 speeders against the AT-AT walkers. The soldiers standing their ground inside trenches. The main heroes and some others escaping on the Falcon, like the last of the rebel soldiers on hoth escaping on the falcon.

 

just as a counterpoint, i don't know if Snoke knows what he has in Hux.
Hux is ruthless and terrible--these things are true.
but he's also not stupid, though he is inexperienced and makes mistakes.
Hux has been plotting against Snoke since TFA (probably Snoke knows this, but, like Ren, he underestimates him).

Hux's failures are the direct result of people not doing what he tells them/expects them to do.
Phasma dropping the shields, Ren playing out his family drama over and over instead of staying focused on the objective.
even in the case of Canady, does Canady really need Hux to tell him to defend his dreadnaught?
apparently, since he does nothing until Hux barks at him.
you're saying there's an implication that Canady was under orders not to fire, but that makes no sense.
and it's contradicted by Hux asking Canady why he's just sitting there like a duck while Poe picks off his guns.

i haven't studied these ships in any depth, but my impression is that the TIEs are from the dreadnaught and that Canady orders them after Hux asks him why he's not firing on Poe. doesn't make sense for Hux to ask and then do the deployment himself. i think the confusion is in the fact that Hux is engaging Poe in this absurd conversation prior to Poe making the run at the dreadnaught. so everyone is just standing around listening to this nonsense and Hux hasn't given any order to fire.

but the moment Poe starts firing on the canons, Hux contacts Canaday and says "why aren't you blasting that puny ship???"
and then Canady goes into action. we don't see Hux again until after the dreadnaught goes down.

my argument is that Canady shouldn't have to wait for Hux to give him orders to fire on Poe. Canady is the one being incompetent here, not Hux.

i have spent ten days in bed. i am so sick of being sick ~ hahahaha
fortunately there's plenty of Star Wars to watch. : D

 

I think Canady flat out says it's too small for his ship. Meaning it's not on his call to deploy the smaller fighters.

 

That actually took me out of the movie the first time

 

what he says is: "that puny ship is too small and at too close range. we need to scramble our fighters! five bloody minutes ago."

i guess you can argue that they are blaming each other--that Canady is saying they should have deployed the fighters before Poe even got in so close, but i still don't see why Canady didn't call out the fighters the moment Poe started firing on them--why he waited for Hux to yell at him in the first place.

 

The way he says "Five Bloody Minutes ago" under his breath makes me think it wasn't his actual call.

yeah i can see that. he's snotting off about the fact that Hux was too busy speechifying instead of just ordering the x-wing shot down.
but i honestly don't know if it makes sense to deploy the TIEs before Poe makes the leap at the dreadnaught.
the error then becomes when Poe does and Hux says "he's insane". there's that brief window right in that moment when Hux should have said to take him out, but everybody just stands around and watches. it still seems to me that destroyers ought to have protocols that don't require the General's direct orders for countermeasures if you're under attack.

Hux was stupid for letting Poe play with him, but Canady still just sat there and watched Poe attack.

 

You'd think that, but as we see with Poe's whole arc...gotta follow that chain of command.
