Do you want a perfect woman hero? Dana Scully. She cries, she is afraid, she gets jealous of Mulder´s love cases, she has casual sex sometimes, she screams, but she also gets dirty on field duties.

Rey (and all the "modern" women heroes) is nothing like that.

 

Rey cries, is afraid, has more things to do on screen than musing on her male co-stars, doesn't need to be sexualised to be interesting, screams and *grew up* dirty on field duties.

 

But that´s exactly what guys like you DON´T GET: the Original Trilogy doesn´t have to make any real sense. But the sequel trilogy (starting in TFA) MUST MAKE SENSE AT LEAST to what the Original Trilogy had already established. But TFA, as being a direct sequel, does not accomplishes by far, thus being a complete failure.

On the other hand the prequel trilogy, despite being bad movies, tie-in to and respects what the OT had established.

 

How, exactly, do you know what he was capable of?

I really don't get the "HOW DID HE LOSE, HE CAN STOP LASERS?!" argument. Just because someone can do one thing well doesn't mean they can do all things, or even all related things, well. My wife can do algebra in her sleep but can't manage the most basic geometry problems if she had an hour to prepare. I can play music well, but my sightreading sucks.

And none of this is accounting for the particulars of the situation. Kylo's injuries, yes, but also his broken emotional state, Rey's sense of motivation and acceptance, etc.

Can we put this dumb argument to bed?

We didn´t even had enought time to simpatize with any character as so rushed was this movie's pace. Yet what I saw the most was Rey trying all the time to discipline Finn just like "DONT TELLME WAT TO DO AM A STRONG INDEPENDANT WOMAN DONT ME TOUCH U RAPIST YOU CANT RUN AWAY WITH THOSE ALIENSESS"

 

I think this is the point at which we would have to start discussing your perception rather than what is actually on screen for everyone to see.

That, and the like 15 minutes of quiet exposition before it, which wordlessly established her abilities, lifestyle, hopes and dreams. But if you want to ignore it and imbue it with some absurd reactionary politics, that's cool too.

Character motivations were very strongly and artfully expressed in this movie. The only way you'd miss it is by being stupid or carrying a grudge into the theater.

 

So he lost because "he is so conflicted with himself" and because "Rey woke up?"

And I thought "the upper ground" was the lamest excuse ever heard...

TFA was a fun ride and a great start to a new era. People getting upset about this is already old. IT'S NEVER GOING TO BE LIKE THE FIRST 'HIGH.' WHAT'S THE OLD ADDAGE - "YOU CAN NEVER GO HOME AGAIN." CHANGE IS INEVITABLE, EMBRACE IT OR BE LEFT BEHIND. HELL, EVEN THE CREATOR OF STAR WARS DEFIED HIS OWN STORY CONTINUITY. JJ WAS THE BUNTER AND HE GOT ON BASE - AND WE GOT OURSELVES A POTENTIAL SLUGGER AT BAT.
