So the weather in the London area has decided to skip summer & go straight to Autumn .
So just to spit it I got this rather good Provence Rose from my local supermarket.

    I'm drinking this lovely lady:
    31287557_1311330429003040_2077192866068692992_n.jpg

Dirt cheap (for a Norwegian bag-in-box, setting me back around $35-38, or so), yet still quite full and lovely. Since I can only affort cheap wines, this is currently my go-to buy :)

Though the packaging would sooner suggest to me a kitchen-appliance to be inside... still, wine from a bag-in-a-carton-with-a-tap doesn't mean it's bad... sometimes one can be pleasantly surprised!

Looks like you found one that works for you, chapeau!

Santé! ...or in your case perhaps more fitting... Skål!!! ;)

Too much information, I'm sure, but...

...while one can often poo-poo bag-in-boxes for being cheap and bad, you certainly cannot in Norway. One of the benefits of having a state-run "wine monopoly" (the actual name in Norwegian of the state's booze business), is that since it isn't insentivised towards making money (i.e., the "King" owns it and he doesn't need money), they can chose not to sell bad wines, so... A bag-in-box in Norway will never be particularly bad.

Furthermore, I happen to be well versed with b-i-bs, for the aformentioned reasones, and, despite being surprisingly cheap (for Norway), this one is very full and complex and smoooooth.

Yeah, I love me some wines, me

Not at all! We're here to share and discuss, so bring it! :p

So despite wine being wildly expensive over there, you're practically guaranteed by Royal Decree, that even the cheapest wine available is of decent quality... well, at least you got that!! ;)

Well, not "by royal decree", but yeah, there is a saying among workers of the "Vinmolopolet" (try to guess what that translates like into English... and yeah, I used to work for that state-run company ;) ), that "if you buy booze at the Vinmonopolet you don't know what bad booz is". This is a reference to how one could, back in the day, buy poopy booze in the general stores before the Vinmonopolet state shops were established; like, back in the 50s and earlier.

Basically, Norway, at one point, decided that booze-pushing was a job for the state, and that:
    a) It's gonna be expensive, and,
    b) that since it's expensive, at least it's not gonna be bad.

So this weeks wine & Whisky

First up another Rose from Provence it’s good but not as nice as the one from Corsica

    IMG_0898.jpeg

Next up was something a bit special a fantastic aged Riesling from the Clair Valley Australia

    IMG_0900.jpeg

I absolutely love Riesling & it ages fantastically ( this one could easily last another 5 years ) & this is one of Australia’s best. It’s bone dry & has a wonderfully citrus ( Mainly lime )smell & taste to it it. It’s also best only lightly chilled as having it to cold kills a lot of the fruit taste.

Then finally my brother got me this rather nice Japanese blended whisky for my birthday .

    My latest wines.
First up a rather nice White from the Lisbon area.

    IMG_0902.jpeg

This was a great summer wine & should definitely be welled chilled & makes a great alternative to either a Muscadet or a Picpoul de Pinet.

then it rather good Pinot from South Africa.

unfortunately not I just keep a few special bottles under some draws at the bottom of my wardrobe . It’s fairly cool& it’s dark so will not as good as an actual cellar it’s much better then keeping them in the kitchen.

Some of my recent supermarket wines.

The Chablis was definitely my favourite but then it was on special offer ( & I probably wouldn’t have paid full price for it) also find that whites tend to offer more enjoyment at a lower price point then reds

oh & @Master_Farkaz i finally finished my bottle 2013 Kilchoman Loch Gorm so now I have to have a look through my collection to see what I should open next :D.

For the summer, white is always nicely fresh and fruity (usually when my mum comes over, she stays for dinner and brings along a small bottle of white {her stomach has problems with red}), yet when it gets colder I like reds, because they sually have a bit more body.
Nice reds are indeed a bit more steeply priced, which is why I don't often drink ( red ) wine. :(

Though there are a few I got my sights on. I still want to try a "ripasso" (where the grapes are used for a second passing and/or fermentation) and a "passito/appassimento" where at least part of the used grapes are dried beforehand. Both methods result in a much richer palette.

    For instance these two:
    [IMG] and [IMG]

Took you long enough! Ten (!) years to finish a bottle of whisky!!

I'm first slowly finishing my The Balvenie Double Wood 12 y.o, before continueing with my 2023 Loch Gorm...
I get, not wanting to finish a whisky like that too fast, but I'm not going to take ten years to do it! :D
I mean, there's overdoing things and there's overdoing things!! :p

Great choices on the red wine front. Have you tried a Amarone ( It’s from the same area & grapes as Valpolicella) only the grapes are dried on wood racks resulting in a very concentrated wine (It’s minimum 14% Alcohol although I have seen up to 16%)
Other areas are now also producing similar wine Ie Malbec from Argentina or a Shiraz from South Australia.

Not yet, but funny enough, the Amarone is incidentally another one on my "big red" wishlist! :)

    Last nights wine

    IMG_0907.jpeg

This is a great red from southern Italy ( Puglia) & while it is the same grape as Zinfandel it’s a bit softer & not as sweet.

So my latest wines & a bourbon.
    IMG_0908.jpeg IMG_0909.jpeg
So I opened this up for thanksgiving. Now I don’t drink a lot of Bourbon as over on this side of the pond the good stuff ( & this was good) is very similar priced to a Single Malt Scotch. Now I went for this one as
    A) it has a high Rye content so it’s not as sweet as some of the corn heavy examples.
    B) I had just finished watching Justified & I can’t afford Blanton or Pappy’s :D. Oh & considering it’s strength it’s remarkable drinkable even with out water.

    IMG_0910.jpeg

This was another Southern Italian red only this time it’s made with partially dried grapes @Master_Farkaz I think you would realy enjoy this one.

    IMG_0912.jpeg

Finally this lovely White from Provence. This is there entry level range so it made with brought in grapes rather then estate grown ones but it’s the same wine making team & the same care in its making as there main label.

After a long and difficult week, it's a Cryo Ranger IPA from VooDoo Ranger for me tonight. I've had better from VooDoo, but this is still pretty solid. 3.5/5

Might finish the evening with a nice bourbon... The jury is still out on that one though.

Looks interesting enough, though I sense those are only available for a limited period.
Very difficult to find! The only example I could find was a case of 6 from 2021, for $72... in the US.
Now... to have a case of wine shipped to Europe as a private person, instead of a company... (I know how overseas parcels are often handled...)
