I firmly believe that it's just natural that you will have 3 types of SW fans after Episode 9. Once Vader & The Emperor were dead, that arc was finished with Episode 6.

1-6 fans: The arc of Darth Vader and the arc of The Emperor coming to power.

    4-6 fans: Luke's arc.

4-9 fans: Luke, Leia, Han's arc along with most likely their offspring's arc.

Once Lucas decided to show a 10 year old Anakin, he threw off the balance of having each protagonists arc in their 20's and just a small part of their life. The only way it would have worked 1-9 is if Lucas stuck with original notes and had Luke meet the Emperor in Episode 9 for the final showdown.

My point is you have to watch the OT with the PT to complete Anakin's story, where you can watch the OT only for Luke's story. The ST will feature Luke, Leia & Han, but the Trilogy will most likely be the arc of Rey or Finn.

What HAVE I seen? The question is what HAVEN'T I seen? We've got veteran actors in the film giving props to the story/screenplay over the last year or so. That alone sais that there's something up with Luke for real and it aint him being afraid of some sith fanboy. We have not seen Luke in ANNNYYYTHING at all thus far. Not only is he missing In the film, he's also missing from all of the trailers and everything else. We got kasdan, writer of the greatest SW movie to date on this one and you really think him and JJ are not gonna explain what the hell is up with Luke? Now THAT is silly bra. Over ten years he's been missing which is obviously a major plot point of the story and they are not gonna explain this? C'mon really? I mean look at the care and the attention to detail they are putting into this project. Everyone knows it's in good hands. As a matter of fact, I haven't seen the trailer in a few hours or so, (kidding), and I think I'll watch it again. :)

Honestly, if Rey and Finn coincidentally steal the Falcon that will piss me off. There better be a darn good reason the Falcon is sitting on Jakku.....like its Rey's ship given to her by her father!

I agree. I'm worried about nonsensical plot turns like that. I hope the explanation is that Rey has been working on the Falcon over the years--that she salvaged it post-Battle of Jakku. That would make the most sense.

Unless Solo left it on Jakku as a bait-car and is waiting in orbit to tractor in anyone who steals it? We'd need to know why he's doing it, and who he was actually hoping to bait, but that would work, I guess....

An over-reliance on pre-existing ideas or canon without a noticeable desire to take a step into unknown or, dare I say, even "un-Star Wars-like" territory worries me.

I was even a little concerned at first when I heard Fisher Hamill and Ford were returning, as I thought they would overtake the younger, less-known leads of the film. (they even asked Wedge Antilles to return, which seemed kind of unnecessary imho) Recent developments have lead me to think otherwise, however, and I am quite excited to see how the old characters fit in to the new story.

I wanted TFA to be a totally new story with totally new characters and totally new everything, but I can see now how they may want to ease people in to the new films and bridge the gap, so to speak.

also I'm worried that the theater might have bedbugs in the seats.

What doesn't make sense to me is this...

Rey and Finn escape TIE Fighters in the Falcon, go into space around Jakku and then...run into Han Solo??? What? The First Order doesn't meet them instead? Han is also at Jakku along with the First Order, even though he's not talking to Leia anymore and Poe was sent on this secret mission, not him?

I really think Rey and Finn go into hyperspace after they escape Jakku's atmosphere, similar to ANH when the Falcon blasts out of Mos Eisley. Whichever coordinates Rey sets, they run into Han there. I expect this is where MSW's summary gets a bit funky since it is in one of these scenes that Rey's parentage is revealed to Finn...

I worry about how well the old cast will be integrated.

Too much screen time or plot importance and they will outshine the newcomers and make it difficult for the audience to embrace them. Too little screen time or plot importance and they'll be seen as no more than cameos igniting advertisement. Too many references to the OT and fan service and those segments will take the viewer out of the movie. Too little interaction between them and fans could be disappointed. Too much interaction and it'll feel like out-of-story fan service. Too much character development between RotJ and TFA and viewers might not recognise their beloved heroes of old. Too little character development between RoTJ and TFA and there's a lack of credibility. Too much time focussed on explaining what happened in the last 30 years and the current plot might suffer. Too little time and focussed on explaining what happened in the last 30 years and viewers could be left in puzzled dissatisfaction. Yeah, no pressure, JJ! :)

I'm worried we're getting a great-looking, well-acted film with a very thin plot. So basically, I am worried the story won't be satisfactory (to me personally). I worry it will riff too much on the existing films, with very similar turns of events etc.

As a trekkie, I have to agree with many of the responses given to the OP's perspective on Star Trek. At it's core, Star Trek is a 'Tall Ship in Outer Space'; an ecclectic blend of Horatio Hornblower with science fiction/advanced science theory with a heart of humanism. To that extent, JJ Abrams did capture the spirit of Star Trek in the first film. Haven't seen the second so I won't comment.

My biggest fear from the get-go has been that it would be more oriented towards kids. Even back in the comment boards in 2014, when they were reporting on lots of extras in a battle shot in puzzlewood I asked how tall were those xtra's. Three guesses as to why:(ewok)

After seening 'teaser 3' last night I'm thinking that's not going to be the case for this film. They're making a mature Star Wars.

I thought the trailers would assured you that the plot was not thin.

Since there seems to have been a great battle on Jakku, it is not out of the realm of possiblity that the Falcon was lost during the battle. Jakku seems to be a planet of scavangers, junk dealers etc. so it could very well have been scavenged and rebuilt by someone. While running for their lives Rey and Finn are forced into the Falcon ( as it appears from the BTS video and the still shots from celebration that the explosion they are running towards then away from is a ship that the TIE's destroy). While it happens to be coincidence that they end up on the Falcon, I don't think the scenario I presented is too far fetched.

I'm worried that there is a checklist created by either JJ or Lucasfilm...and that we are going to get a safe, by-the-book, checklist-vetted, kid-tested, mother-approved Episode VII. As opposed to something cutting-edge and innovative.

OK, what i'm about to say has nothing to do with Star Wars, but parallels your concern. Last spring I spent about 3 weeks watching the entire Breaking Bad TV show series. Every episode, every season. The show actually ended its run about 3 years ago, but I never saw an episode until a few months back. Now let me say, that show is amazing - and I am not one to get sucked into episodic tv series. I'd watch an episode and i'd say "there is no way this can get any better". And yet the next episode would come along and amaze me. Now, seasons 2-4 involve this bad guy named 'Gus'. I mean this guy was fantastically bad, almost in a 'phantom' sort of way. And when he met his demise (sorry, spoilers) I was literally jumping up and down in a room all by myself. That was at the end of season 4. They had just finished this incredible story arc, and as I started season 5 it almost felt like a hangover. Where was this going? The new 'bad guys' weren't really defined right away. In fact a large part of the final season really dealing with the disintegration of the main characters friendships and families. But...taken as a whole the fifth season is utterly fantastic and it wraps the entire 5 year run of the series up in probably the best way possible.

I guess all that is to say, that I hope Star Wars 7-9 is the equivalent of a season 5 of Breaking Bad (which by the way had its best episode directed by none other than Rian Johnson.) You can't beat Darth Vader as a villain. They could make Star Wars movies for 100 years and its not going to happen. I can just hope for someone evil, believable, and powerful enough to make our heroes seem like they are in true danger. And then at the end of episode 9 I want the whole trilogy of trilogies wrapped up in this beautiful way, that really leaves these 9 films off on an island of their own to be enjoyed and studied for all time. Hell, I would not mind episode 9 ending with a screen scroll stating that the universe remained peaceful for the next 1000 generations, just so there would not be the temptation to just continue this storyline forever and it get all watered down and just become Planet of the Apes or something.

Ugh...the Han and Leia not being together rumors. That could destroy one of the best movie couples in history!

I can deal with character deaths but my worry is about how they are handled and if they leave enough room for wonder and joy at the end. I worry it will end up being depressing for the sake of being deep and dark and Batman-y. While the prequels were criticized for being geared too much towards children, I am worried that J.J. will take the alternate route and make this one too* much for adults, like a the Dark Knight with lightsabers floating in space.

At times I worried about the practical effects making this look like a movie out of 1984, with aliens clearly being people in rubber suits. But then I remember that we are getting two entirely digital characters, Snoke and Maz Kanata.
