    @Pastor Barndog

I actually think you're giving too much credit to the internet as most people don't post on SW message boards, watch YouTube SW rants, etc.

I say this cause I have loads of friends/family who love SW and none of them post on a SW message board.

I've actually had to keep everything I know hidden because most of friends don't want to know about the movie other then seeing the teasers.

Thats why I laugh at all of the PT fans up in arms over JJ and the cast talking about practical effects. My friends didn't even notice that they are pushing this type of marketing.

It further proves my point that the internet is such a small faction of Fandom and honestly doesn't sway the masses.

My friends disliked the Prequels without once posting on a message board, so its not like their opinion changed because people were screaming about on the internet. They didn't like the Prequels the same reason they hated Godfather 3 in 1990 before the internet: They weren't good movies to them.

I'm sorry if this has been posted before, but I worry that they won't use Episode VII before the opening crawl.

Oh I'm 99% sure they will, imagine the backlash if they didn't!

I think there are certainties of every SW movie:

    -Opening crawl with Episode #

-The first shot will be a ship flying taking us into the first scene of the movie

-Somebody will say, 'I gotta bad feeling...'

-The ending montage to just music and no dialogue

I would be surprised if Disney skips any of these I named above. I think the only reason Lucas used the Episode # for the Prequels was to let the casual fan know they came before the originals. You don't need Episode #'s to market this Trilogy when you have a 70 year old Han Solo in the teaser.

Just saying... this is exactly why Plagueis works he connects PT OT and ST in a way that no other baddy can. (That said I admit he's no longer in it.)

I addressed this in another thread but the following worries me:

    - I'm over hyping myself and the movie will feel very "meh".
    - All of the negativity over the film is going to dampen my spirits.
    - Rey won't be a Skywalker descendant. (Despite what spoilers are saying.)
    - The original 3 will outshine the new crew.
    - I'm worried that I'm worrying too much and I need to calm down.

It worries me that JJ isn't what I'd call a visionary director. He's great at paying tribute to directors who were, but so far he hasn't made anything that knocked my socks off. Star Trek is solid, but I just didn't get Super 8, Into Darkness was borderline terrible, Lost got that way, MIssion Impossible 3 was the second worst one (even though it was far better than 2). The guys is more of a producer. Which is why I'm THRILLED to see Rian Johnson, someone I actually would put into the visionary director category (he's a better writer than director, but you can't deny Looper looked amazing).

Still, I'm concerned that someone who's less creative than driven is taking the reins of this first one, which will set the tone for everything that follows.

When I say visionary, I mean a person who says screw you to the focus groups and meddling beancounters and makes the film that's in their head. Like Lucas in 1976. For all of the angst directed toward the man, GL was uncompromising in making the exact films he wanted to make. That's what I wish we had in JJ, but I'm afraid he's trying to hard to make something that's cool and appealing to tweens. I dunno. I'm not going to say I have a bad feeling about this, but the more I see and hear, the less faith I have that Star Wars, going forward, will be as exciting and wild as it once was.

And that's OK. Sooner or later someone will come along and make something that is those things, and it might not even be Star Wars.

Reading through these posts, I gotta say that it's an inevitability that TFA is going to disappoint all of you in some way that will likely overshadow any enjoyment you'd likely get from it. I had a lot of fun reading SW forums in the years before ROTS and I've enjoyed the run-up to TFA up until the last few weeks. It seems that these forums have lately been dominated by naysayers and doomsday prognosticators who are disappointed with minutiae in a movie they have not even seen yet.

What am I worried about? In RL, I'm worried about the fact that my 9yo daughter will likely have to have a 2nd open-heart surgery sometime in the next year. That seems to do a bang-up job of giving me a wonderful sense of perspective.

In terms of SW? Nothing. The movie is in very capable hands and I'm excited about where they will be taking the characters and universe that I've loved since I was 5.

I know it's off topic but I want to say that I hope your daughter's 2nd open heart surgery goes well. A movie is absolutely nothing compared to that.

Thank you...we're actually a lot less anxious this time around, since we basically know what to expect. Also, the cardiologist has told us that w/ what my daughter is dealing with (sub-aortic stenosis caused by the closing of a hole in her heart when she was a toddler), a recurrence after the 1st surgery is common. Recurrence after the 2nd surgery is rare. Sorry to take things off topic, but you know, there it is...

Couldn't agree more, Flyboy. Based on what I've seen (the actress, character design, scenes) Rey has *potential* to be an incredible female character. My "worry" is that her personality will be made to cater to PC Imperials and just to show how much better she is than Luke/Finn/EVERYTHING etc. simply because she is female as some backwards way to make up for the lack of females in Star Wars movies. My hope is that SW will be blessed with another great lady (casting, dialogue, character development) to follow in the footsteps of Princess Leia (while being her own character). Yes, Star Wars could use some more female characters. No, that does not mean the female characters have to be flawless goddesses who are better than the male characters in every area of expertise. I hope JJ isn't neutered by some loudmouths on the internet and has the b____s to allow Finn to have his strengths/weaknesses in certain skill sets and Rey to have hers. Because humans.

I'm afraid that legitimate criticism will be silenced by people who will accept anything that isn't the prequels. If I post a complaint about the color tinting, I don't want to hear, "but it has practical effects. How dare you criticize a film that uses practical effects."
