TPM is it for me. It tries to setup story which it does in meh way. I think the OT can stand as a whole or single movies. TPM has some good effects for the day but it is just I don't know lacking. Most of the PT seems forced(no pun intended). AOTC wasn't that much better. I understand they wanted use it to do Vader's backstory but it just came off as lacking. I think Anakin came off as a whiney entitled brat, who become a crispy stable badass.

I have to say ROS. I know a bunch of people are going to come after me for saying this, so I will say this in my defence...The movie is a great one, but it wasn't really star wars for me. Neither was TLJ or TFA. But I picked this one beause of all of the missed opportunities, from the bad lightsaber choreography (It wasn't bad, but again - just not star wars) to the creative decision to bring palps back... Just my opinion.

100% Attack of the Clones. It defined the prequels as “bad”. The Phantom Menace had some cool moments and Revenge of the Sith was decent/watchable. Attack of the Clones was a total misfire on every level for me. Had it been of a similar quality to ROTS, I don’t think the prequels wouldn’t get as much hate as they do.

@blame182 what do you think of like the noir/detective thread for Obi Wan in AOTC ? I thought that was quite a cool, redeeming part of the movie. Seeing the seedy underbelly of Coruscant and the galaxy at large. Totally get what you’re saying about misfire tho, it didn’t know what it even wanted to be. With that romance at the centre...well

Oh the general story definitely had potential, I meant more the execution and how it eventually ended up on the screen was a misfire for me. And, in a lot of cases, the middle film in a trilogy tends to define that trilogy. Empire perception good = OT good, ATOC perception bad = PT bad and TLJ perception divisive = ST divisive...

AotC (unless you count the Clone Wars movie)

I absolutely love that some fans adore this movie, though! Good for you and I hope I learn to love it too, eventually (although that's not likely at this point).

This is more a case of "what's your least favourite Star Wars movie?"

    Easy answer for me: TROS

Please explain! Imo the lightsaber fights were one of the things that were done right, like of course they look and feel different than the ones from the PT, but Rey vs Kylo was always a highlight...the fight on the wreckage could have been more intense and the Kor vs Ben Solo was a missed chance but overall...

I don’t mean to come off rude at all, but I don’t understand the hate of ROTS. I thought everyone loved that one, I mean, I did! Anyway, the lightsaber fighting was well done, the actor acted well, great cgi, and just well done scenes, like the Battle over Coruscant. That was amazing to start off seeing two fighter enter the battle, maneuvering, and making way towards the Invisible Hand. Oh, I forgot to mention all of John Williams amazing music produced during that movie! The music really adds to how people feel when they watch that film. It plays a big role! I also loved to see the phase 2 clone trooper, even at brief periods of time! Also, Ani vs Obi was an amazing duel on mustafar, which was a cool planet. Many planets were interesting and were introduced here as well! Now, each to their own. Everybody has their cup of tea, and this may not be yours! It definitely was mine!

I'll explain. When you look at the fights from a technical point of view, it becomes really obvious that all of the sequal trilogy duels are made in a completly different fighting style, and that really bothers me. They we're entertaining, but I personally enjoyed the duels between Luke and Vader and Obi Wan and Anakin at the end of the OT and PT more. But to each their own.

I too live Luke vs Vader and Battle of heroes, imo the duels of the ST feel and look like a mixture or fusion of both fighting styles. What exactly is it what you feel these fights are missing?

Hmm... the more you make me think about it the more I realize the flaws in my thinking. I think it just comes down to the fact I just love all of the movies so much and this one was the worst out of 9 spectactular movies... I will go meditate on this... (yoda)

It could simply be the camera.

In the OT and PT, the camera adopts a fly-on-the-wall documentary position. It stays at a distance and you see everything squarely. Somewhat like a play.

In the ST, the camera is modern, subjective, and interactive. It moves in and out between the action; it doesn't remain at a distance on the side.

    Compare the following:
    ROTS

    TROS

    ESB

    TFA

You can compare more; I just did an ST comparison to each previous trilogy.

It could simply be this that feels very different...because it is. The number one shift in the ST is that they went with a subjective camera rather than an objective camera.
It happens right out of the gate in TFA in the first action scene. Same thing in TLJ; it mixed them together more (why it felt so "painting" like), but it still relied on the subjective camera for every piece of action, only using the objective camera for stalls, pauses, and impact/impression.
And of course TROS is dominately subjective.

    Cheers,
    Jayson

Ah! I did not love the sequels either. But I surprisingly liked TFA because it reminded me of ANH.

TROS for many, MANY reasons I've stated before. Every other movie I can re-watch and at best enjoy, at worst sigh my way through. I am currently avoiding any future Star Wars series re-watches because I do not want to watch TROS any time soon. Someday I'll probably be able to appreciate it, in that it's a objectively pretty movie with good music and a mess of a story. Heck, maybe some day I'll actually enjoy the movie...but today is NOT that day.

I didn’t think that the story of TROS was rusty and a little meh! But, it was a good ending to the sequels. I liked the part at the end where many voices of jedi spoke in Rey’s head, as rey rose! How amazing, huh!?
