i really loved the flashback. it was so weird and unStar Warsy, but kinda perfect too.
first time we see just regular Imperials hanging out and not killing people.

K-2SO's death was the best of all of them.

Loved the beach action, especially Chirrut and Baze.

Not sure if anyone else noticed but that Hammerhead was still attached to that Star Destroyer when it crashed through the shield gate. Yet another sacrifice.

Yes, in the novelization it is clear - Raddus asked them to sacrifice themselves, majority of the crew was evacuated, but the captain and the skeleton crew remained. When they hit the Star Destroyer and aim it at the other, Raddus sees the escape pods and he does not dare hope that they are from Hammerhead. So, very slim chances that someone survived.

    Tarkin and Leia.
Without a doubt, these are my two favorite scenes, and I haven't been this wowed with a Star Wars' visual effects since that massive crowd scene of the gungan army in TPM.

Star Wars is always at the forefront of revolutionary special effects since 1977:
For the OT the challenge was creating miniatures and prosthetics to look truly convincing.
For the PT the challenge was to compile thousands of computer generated effects in a seamless manner (not the 200 or so effects in Titanic by comparison.)
For the modern era of Star Wars, bringing Peter Cushing back from the dead and de-aging Carrie Fisher is true wizardry in every sense of the word.
I can go on about how happy (and relieved) I was in these sequences. I feel like anything is now possible in moviemaking.

I loved the entire film to bits, but for me there was something really special about seeing Leia, all hopeful and beautiful, ready to take charge of destiny. Now, there's a Disney Princess to be reconed with! <3

It's not so much a favorite scene as it is an idea. While watching the movie yesterday for the third time, a thought came to me while they were all dying: ten thousand Jedi - practitioners of the Force - lost the war most terribly, but a ragtag group of six Rogues - believers in the Force - managed to kick both Empire and Alliance's behinds and started what would eventually become a victory. By the Force, I love Star Wars.

Vader unhinged. The sheer terror when the breathing started, contrast of the red light of the saber and the darkness in the hallway, the desperation of the Rebels attempting to flee, the power of the Dark Side stripping the soldiers of their weapons, and the carnage that followed. Excellent tie-in to ANH.

That has given me goosebumps both times watching the movie. That 10 min segment is up there with some of the best star wars we've ever seen!

Other goosebump moments for me - red and gold leader showing up, the space battle, Jyn crying (such a powerful scene).

You make a good point- seeing the weapons flying from their hands is so visually powerful. Everytime I see this one specific blaster fly back behind the charging Vader, that is for me the apex of that scene, where it is clear in every way that the rebels don't stand a chance.

UGH, so tough. I would have to say Vader terrorizing the rebels, but his scene on Mustafar was just as ferocious. I think in the end, it has to be K-2SO's fight to the death. He was locked in, he took hits his previous programming would have forced automatic shutdown, and he really epitomized the heart and fight of the rebellion. His death was iconic, as he slams his hands into the controls to save his friends. I still miss him :'(

on second viewing, i was able to toss out all my presumptions about the film (verifying that i want nothing to do with the viii teasers and trailers). i really enjoyed the second time around much much more. my initial criticisms still stand, but i definitely love the film now (whereas before i wasn't entirely sure).

in bigger news (and a big surprise to me), my sister (nominal Star Wars fan and pickiest viewer on the planet) loved it. wonders never cease! : D

The ending of R1 gave me chills all three times that I saw it.

Tied very nicely into the beginning of ANH.

    Pimp Wars?

This would actually make Vader's torture of his own daughter even more disturbing if he was trying to recruit her as one of his girls...

    Vader.

We always knew Vader was a bad, bad, man but we never actually saw most of it. He wasn't trying to kill Luke, choking people was just evil, Anakin had amazing skills....but holy horror show, he was absolutely terrifying.

That Vader gif... I cannot unsee how little the movement resembles 'true' Vader. It's almost comical. Yes the idea/concept is good but in true prequel fashion it's a flawed execution. It's not "NooOOoooo"- levels of bad, but it still doesn't look like the "real" thing.

I like how this movies shows the Rebels as not a bunch of boy scouts. Andor kills the informant & latter he is told to basically kill the GFFA's equivalent of Einstein. Very cold. Borderline terrorist.

I thought Krennic saying "it's beautiful" was funny & Vader with the "choke joke".

Leia! Oh Carrie! Who put those onions in my theater!

    But my favourite part.............
