    Nope.

I've explained this in another thread:

----"It's an Arthurian trope. Rey has a special connection to the weapon she uses. The Takodana vision sequence already established that Rey has an intimate and mysterious connection to the Skywalker heirloom. It has also been established that the weapon has agency and manages to call people towards it. Both Kylo and Rey tried to pull the saber towards them. At that moment the sabre is in a sort of "tug of war" by means of the Force. If the weapon has agency, like Excalibur in the Arthurian tradition, it is quite unsurprising that it eventually ends up in the hand of its rightfull user: Rey. This might also explain Finn's meagre succes with the weapon. The weapon as a heirloom is only successful when it is used by the rightful heir. Having agency, the weapon might also chose to abandon it's user when its morals or behaviour conflict with the purpose for which the weapon was made. You also see the same trope in The Lord of the Rings with both the ring and Isildur's sword Narsil."------

Nobody could pull the sword from the stone, only Arthur could because the weapon excalibur was a family heirloom. It was the weapon of his father King Uthar Pendragon. Arthur, like Rey, did not know that Uthar was his father, nor did he know excalibur was his father's weapon. The weapon summoned Arthur when he was looking for a replacement sword for his step brother Kay. When Arthur pulled the weapon from the stone he showed that he was not a "I'm no one" squire, but the rightful king of the Britons and heir of his father Uthar. But first he got scared of his destiny, so he ran into the forest and was subjected to the breath of the dragon. Once he pasted the test, Arthur embraced his destiny. Excalibur abandoned Arthur when used the weapon for a purpose for which it has not been made. He used it to fight for honour, revenge and glory. The weapon broke and abandoned him for a moment, only to return at a later moment when Arthur's morals had improved.

Do you understand how this ties into Rey's character? They are using the Arthurian theme specifically for her. Even her name is poetically Spanish for "King".

    Thats interesting...

i disagree with the Spanish addition, she's a woman and therefore queen, lets not add weight to it thats just not there. lol
i some language we can probably make anything significant.

i do like the arthurian perspective.

i thought when they fought over the sabre it was just who had more force pull.

the sword was only ever going to be pulled by Arthur, was he guided to it?
was it his destiny to pull it or did chance bring him to it?

Let's hope the young lady does not do something foolish. The weapon might leave her....with a body part.

I kind of think that no one will end up with it by the end of Episode IX. It'll be lost again, or flat-out destroyed. Rey will build her own personal lightsaber (Luke and Anakin got to do it, she deserves the same. Plus it's a rite of passage for a would-be Jedi).

The saber should last throughout all of the Star Wars canon more than likely. I think we can expect to see it continue on to the next trilogy too, but we have a very long way to go before that happens. The saber will stay with Rey throughout this trilogy no doubt. She had a look of regret when she went to give it Luke because she was overwhelmed with emotion, but I also felt like that scene set up the emotion that Luke was intended to receive it again, but he will return the favor by training her and letting her keep it. He will play more of the Miyagi-esque archetype in this trilogy. He will come back and fight though at some point.

I don't really like the idea of her getting stuck with "hand me downs" while Luke and Anakin got to build their own.

Sort of like how Harry Potter destroys the elder wand in the end? I think that, even though Anakin's saber should have been simply a family heirloom of a lightsaber that they're trying to turn it into something like The Elser Wand. So if so, it would make sense to destroy it if it's pryed away from the most paper full being in the galaxy at the end of IX .

There has been a motif throughout the trilogies where Anakin Skywalker's lightsaber gets passed down from generation to generation. (Luke received in in Episode IV, and Rey seemed to be destined to use it in Episode VII.)

My question is this: because Luke Skywalker is still alive, will he once again use his old lightsaber (as implied in the end of VII when Rey hands it back)? This would provide closure for fans who would like to see Luke be reunited with his old weapon, and it will give Rey a chance to construct a lightsaber of her own.

If Luke gets his lightsaber back and uses it, what does this mean for the whole pass-it-down motif?

I think he may take it first to have a look on his old weapon, but then passes it on to Rey. The moment I want to see instead is Luke igniting his green lightsaber. Me as the biggest ROTJ fan, this is a dream come true, because it is his own lightsaber that he constructed. (lightsaber)

Ohh and since Hasbro is bringing the green Luke FX saber into merchandise again in black series, it is very safe to say we will see Luke again with his green one. :p

I actually hope that the lightsaber duel at the end of Episode VIII between Rey and Kylo (I'm assuming) will end with Kylo defeating Rey by destroying the Skywalker lightsaber, instead of Rey losing a limb. I think it will be quite a blow to us fans, seeing the most iconic lightsaber in Star Wars history meet its end. This will then allow Rey to construct her own.

The only thing that really hinders this theory is that Kylo seemed to covet the lightsaber in Episode VII because it belonged to Darth Vader, so I don't know how keen he would be to destroy it.

I hope he passes it on,it was created based on the schematics of his master's design & was well handled by Rey, it called to her something we have never seen before, a lightsaber that can think, I hope it doesn't get destroyed that is cruel way out of existence.(green)

Wow never thought of that, but how long do you think it will last before those two crystals clash again, nothing lasts forever.

Then VIII is the last Star Wars movie for me. I just don't want Luke to go out as the tragic hero who lost everything. :(:(:(
