Just a head's up everyone. I merged the Thread, "Who Inherits Luke's Lightsaber" with "Who Inherits Anakin's Lightsaber". I also changed the Title of the thread to have both names. Thanks!!

I think Rey will definitely use the blue saber in VIII. If she gets/builds a new one, it will be in IX

As far as Jedha goes. It appears that

Jedha is being mined for its kyber crystals for the Death Star

I agree with this. The force called to Rey via the lightsaber but I don't think the primary focus IS the lightsaber, the primary focus is the force awakening within her. Like @Trevor mentioned, each jedi must build there own. Part of becoming a jedi IS to build a unique saber of their own. Rian Johnson mentioned that ep 8 will pick up right where TFA left off, that being the case, it seems Rey wouldn't have much time to train before facing Kylo for the second time and she most likely will not be far along enough into her training to construct her own saber, so it's quite probable that she will wield the saber again in VIII. I doubt however that it will REMAIN in her possession.

Agreed she handled it well & I hope her reconstructed one looks badass. I still think Jedha is just a planet for target practice, they surely have them already not going planet to planet kyber crystal shopping.

Quick question for the "A Jedi needs to make their own lightsaber" folks: if Luke hadn't lost his fathers saber in TESB, would he have had to construct his own one later? Just curious...

My thinking is, I don't think that code ceases to exist because he lost it in battle. He lost it and still constructed a new one in ROTJ.

The next Skywalker gets the Skywalker heirloom, of course! I'm sorry, but who has the blue sabre now? Rey!? Makes sense, she is a Skywalker after all.

    (epic fail)booooooommmmmmm!

Lol. I'm highly doubtful Rey is a Skywalker. We already have a new Skywalker (descendant) in this trilogy. It would be over the top to have both Rey AND Kylo be Skywalkers. I would like to be surprised with the revelation of Rey's parentage. Her being a Skywalker is boring IMO. But that's just me.

If they were SMART, they would have Rey use Anakin/Luke's lightsaber in episode VIII, and construct her own in episode IX.

Then in the NEXT trilogy, the blue lightsaber is passed on to Rey or Ben's son or daughter and the cycle starts again. Use>create your own>pass on. They could have that single lightsaber span four trilogies.

Rey is going to learn to use it since Luke will have to train her using his own. Remember, Lightsabers can be dialed down in power.

In the original Trilogy there were two siblings about the same age. I believe there is a mirroring here with Rey and Ben.

If rey is about to train as a jedi, which seems the most logical, she will more than likely create her own lightsaber. This leaves luke as the most likely owner of the saber moving forward.

The only way this would work would be if Leia became pregnant before her split with Han, but han was unaware before he left. This would mean that Ben had already wreaked havoc on Luke's jedi school. Then leia would be the one that dropped rey on jakku. This would of course mean that rey would have to be quite a bit younger than Ben. This is possible, but not likely.

Two Skywalkers representing two sides of the Skywalker legacy, the dark and the light. Makes sense to me. With all the theories here on these forums, I will actually be surprised when she ends up being a Skywalker. I've said so from the beginning, because for me it was an obvious, yet indirect reveal in The Force Awakens. But I confess that I looked at it mostly from a narrative point of view and focused on certain pivots placed in the story which were unresolved in TFA but which in the end require pay-off and in my opinion only make sense in a Skywalker framework. I might of course be wrong, but like John Williams seeing the movie and writing the score for TFA, I think Rey is in fact a Skywalker. The sabre, a family heirloom, in its 'sentient form' (calling for Rey), spawning visions pertaining to and privileging Luke and Rey (!), are a major narrative clue in my opinion. Rey's parentage requires a satisfying pay-off for viewers who only have knowledge of the stories presented in the movies, and even the most basic knowledge at that. The fact that most viewers think Rey is a Skywalker must be a hint in itself. But again, all cards are on the table.

Will Snoke complete Kylo's training before he takes the KoR to face Rey and Luke?

If so, does that not afford Rey the time to make her own? Or perhaps replace the crystal in her staff?

I want Luke to get his father's saber back. It belongs in the hands of a full-blooded Skywalker.

Have Kylo Ren turn back to the light during episode IX and inherit Anakin's lightsaber. It would be fitting, for obvious reasons. Perhaps Anakin's saber calls to Ben, as it senses similar characteristics to that of his grandfather.

Rey will most likely construct her own lightsaber as part of her training, and I can't picture Luke as a master of dual-saber combat.

What, you mean a 65-year-old man can't go around dual-spinning some lightsabers? The CGI that let Dooku leap off the balcony in ROTS disagrees. ;)

But no, I agree, Kylo Ren should get the Anakin lightsaber. :p

Dual-wielding works in animation, but it doesn't look anywhere near as good in live-action.

I don't have a problem with Dooku doing a simple flip off a balcony, but the flipping to fight Yoda... ...that doesn't look good.

I think it rightfully goes to Rey. BUT I think Kylo might get it if there is an opportunity or defeat of Rey. Kylo will feel like he took his birthright but the audience will know its Rey's.

One thing I noticed at the end of Ep 7, is that Luke doesn't have his ROTJ lightsaber on him. Now, granted, it's probably in his dwelling...but what if...

During the attack from the Knights of Ren Luke somehow loses his saber, and possibly his right hand? That's a very different hand to ROTJ. It's possible that Luke went in to hiding to recover from his injuries, as well as feeling that he'd failed. And then Rey turns up with his father's lightsaber, so he would take back the saber he lost at Bespin, and Rey would build her own under instruction from Luke.

I would have put this in its own thread but I'm not allowed to start a new post ;-)

yep, that could be possible and maybe Snoke now has the green saber. ;)
