I'm wondering if the blue saber, since it called to Rey, somehow precludes her having to make one of her own. If so, then I think it will be Rey training with Anakins, and Luke wields his green lightsaber.

If Ben ends up with the blue lightsaber, I think it will actively try to influence him back to the light side.

I think this idea sounds awesome. It would be a simple but ultimately big plot twist.

but then any other saber would have done the job, like an old lightsaber from Obi-Wan. But instead it is the Skywalker family lightsaber, that belonged to Luke and his father before him. Now it belongs to you Rey Sky....:)

Not actually. If Crystals themselves need to be restored frequently and Luke lost that saber decades ago, I'll be not surprise if someone used it before.
That lightsaber never called Luke, but called to Rey [and Ezra was attracted to Kanan's lightsaber, the crystals can call someone who has no connection with the previous owner]

"Kyber crystals choose Force users and present themselves to their desired owner"

the new Ahsoka's Crystals belonged to an inquisitor but she can have a bond with this and the red color leaves them and they become white.

Honestly, I think Leia is going to end up with Anakin's LS by the end of VIII.

That particular weapon is no doubt going to be a plot point in itself just based on the fact that Kylo wants it....badly. Rey is going to hand it off to Luke, who is going to reluctantly take possession of it, but maybe not initially...he may rebuff Reys offer (that we saw at the end of VII) but he's eventually and reluctantly (again) going to take it...if even only temporarily. When Reys lightsaber training comes to pass, Luke is going to "lend" the LS to Rey to train with initially until she builds her own, and during the several encounters that she (and likely Luke) will have with Kylo, he will mention the fact that he WANTS that weapon.

We WILL see Luke using the ROTJ saber as it is his current weapon, but by the end of this movie (VIII), I think the original saber will go to Leia.

So from Leia, where does it end up, you ask? Well, I DON'T see Kylo ending up with it, and while I was initially a HUGE proponent of the "Rey Skywalker" theory, I feel this nagging pull away from that theory, whereas (if Rey is NOT a Skywalker) she won't end up with it either. If all of that plays out just as I wrote, I DO believe that "there is another" that will end up with it....who, IDK.

that's an interesting theory, but I wonder why Rey needs to construct a new one if the Bespin saber is not lost in a fight? And how does it end up with Leia? Is it lost, or given to Leia?

Rey will use it. It's the handing down of Excalibur. It wouldn't make sense for the hero of this trilogy not to have that weapon.
Throughout TFA we are shown that the Skywalker saber calls to her.
Finn uses it but gets beat both times and it falls from his possession.
Kylo tries to grab it but it goes to Rey instead.

I don't know if something is happening on a Force level there, but it's most certainly symbolic of the fact that Rey is the hero and she must take Excalibur and go on her journey.

I'm not sure about the whole crystals thing. It sure sounds like they're going in that kind of direction when you look at all the new canon stuff. However, I would be cautious not to make Star Wars too mystical. The Force was a very simple idea. Lucas threw out the original idea behind the kyber crystals for a reason. However, i shouldn't condemn it too much before seeing how it plays out. I just think it best to keep it simple and have it that the Force guided Rey to the saber because it is her destiny to find Luke and become a Jedi. Do we need all the stuff about crystals connecting with people?

I would really love to see a lightsaber being constructed onscreen. We only got a glimpse of it in the cut scene of Luke from ROTJ. But for this Rey must lose the saber somehow. ;)

Remember, every Jedi must construct their own LS, and I think that Luke will make her do the same. As far as Leia, I think that Luke will give it to her.

yeah and this would be nice little surprise if Leia decides to become a Jedi in this trilogy. So a little more into the direction of a Jedi order, the more Jedi the better. :)

Does she have to construct a lightsaber from scratch or just understand the workings of it?
Perhaps Luke deconstructs his old saber and then Rey has to rebuild it?

This depends on the things Luke has with him on Ach-to to construct a new one. Maybe they could do it Mac Gyver style and construct one while on a mission or on the run from FO/KoR. :)

Would be funny if Luke has his saber deconstructed while the KoR arrive. :p

If Ach-To is indeed the planet on which the first Jedi temple was built, I'd think it would probably have a wealth of kyber crystals naturally occurring. Perhaps that's what Luke is truly guarding? If so, we could definitely see Rey build her own. But something tells me that she will keep the blue LS, at least for the majority of episode VIII.

No, she has to construct her own...it's the way. If it were me as the instructor, I'd definitely make her construct her own as it takes an understanding and "oneness" with the force to properly and surgically place the crystal in the unit. It has always been a rite-of-passage on the path to becoming a Jedi, and I expect Luke to hold her to that task.

it also means a new force fx lightsaber. I doubt they will miss it, but it may be for IX, like Luke has his own in ROTJ. :)

But what is the difference between Rey putting together Luke's completely dismantled lightsaber and putting together the pieces and crystal of a completely new one?

i know it's just us fans that crave it.. but surely.. at some stage we're gonna see a Jedi constructing their own lightsaber in a live action film?

the fact that Anakin's blue saber 'called' to Rey i very much imagine that she will use it for the time being... but i drool over the prospect of seeing her making her own one as part of training.

you also have to take merchandising into account here. If Rey was to construct her own unique.. say.. double bladed yellow lightsaber it would be win-win for just about everyone.
