SPECULATION Who's the blue fella?

I'm hoping for Jar Jar with good comedic taste. More of a mo-cap Chewie? It seems like he's in a lot more of the concept art that we haven't seen.

 

My theory up to this point has been that's Andy Serkis. I imagine the personality kind of like Jar Jar if Jar Jar was a dirty dumpster diver that people actively disliked, so kind of like Jar Jar. Ridley is one of the few people willing to deal with him so he brings her this mystery box (ha! get it?) that he found.

As to the extent the character interacts with the plot, I can easily see them living it behind on desert planet, don't drag some bumbling alien along on a galaxy changing quest (looking at you Qui-Gonn). I could even see him getting killed to give Ridley a brush with mortality

 

I'm actually thinking this is Pip Anderson's character who will have to illustrate some athletisim (could be this character's usefulness).

I think Andy Serkis will be the big bad robot sith.

 

Serkis has said his role isn't that big he was brought on because he is the top mo-cap guy in the world, I doubt he would out right lie if he was the main villain, be mischievous and dodge the question maybe. We have no reason to believe anyone has flat out lied about their role in the film.

 

That is a good point, I forgot he said that. But, could he be the main villan and have a small role so to speak? Think of it this way, Palpatine had a small on screen presence in the OT but was clearly the primary villan in terms of story.

 

I doubt it, the blue alien appears to be of small stature, that's right up Serkis's alley, he made his name playing Gollum. Even if it is still early concept work they haven't designed an athletic looking alien

 

OK I have friend that works in MoCap. The company he works for was originally in the running for Episode VII.(They didn't get it, he's getting ready to work on the next Avatars though) He stated if they got the job he would be in Abu Dhabi then England until November.(He was complaining about going to Abu Dhabi) Two weeks later the cast was released and Andy was listed which until that point I don't remember seeing anything him being cast. So I suspect that the blue alien is Andy's character and is Daisy's "Chewbacca" type sidekick. Always around helps in a fight but not the most vocal/plot moving.

 

i take what he said with an entire deathstar's worth of salt. He isn't just a quality actor - he's a major player in big films these days on both sides of the camera... so he would happily 'disguise' his role in a film like this. he was also in the script reading photograph (MVS wasn't weirdly)... do we really think that was for a cameo mo-cap performance?

i smell a wamprat - i reckon he's got a huge part (in the films)

 

Maybe he considers it a cameo because you can't tell it's him, like at all.
Look at Vader for example. When you think of Darth Vader's actor you instantly think of James Earl Jones. If you mention David Prowse to someone they would be like, who is that?

 

I think he is a guardian appointed by Luke to watch after Kira. Perhaps it is he that starts Daisy down the path of the Jedi and Luke comes in later as more of an Yoda character to finish her training. He seems to be teaching younglings in one concept art and examining a blue lightsaber crystal in another so perhaps he is a former Jedi or just has knowledge of their ways.

He just sounds like to much of a mentor character too me for him just to be the equivalent of a blue Chewbacca.
