Who's your favourite new character so far?

Phasma. SHE is the MAN!! Hahahaha

For me, it has to be Rey.

 

Hard to choose because we've seen so little, but I like most of what we've seen so far.

Finn: Already showing so much personality, and he clearly goes through one hell of a character journey.

Rey: I love that she seems very direct and unapprehensive, like a less wisecrack-y Leia.

Poe Dameron: HANDSOME.

Captain Phasma: The new General Veers, but badder! And her voice (from the toy) sounds amazingly cold/evil.

Kylo has to be my favorite character thus far just based on what I've seen of him. Which, just like with all the characters, is very little. But, I have to say, I think Finn has tremendous potential. I was glad to hear there's a main black character that's going to be in the film. Typically, a lot of black actors add a sense of comedy and an overall cool factor to even serious situations. Which is a good thing. (No, not all stereotypes are bad). I can totally see Finn being one of those characters that is serious and badass, yet at the same time mixes some of that serious badassery with a healthy sense of humor. With that being said, I just can't say he's my favorite based on what I've seen so far. All we've seen is him either yelling, panting, or in shock. As long as they don't make him the poor ol' damsel in distress that isn't capable of holding his own as a man, so he needs Rey (a woman) to save him to prove political agenda, I think he'll be fine.

P.S: Don't get the wrong idea. I think the lead hero being a woman is awesome. That's something new that SW hasn't done yet that will be cool to see. And I think Daisy Ridley was a fantastic choice. But I hope these decisions weren't made to prove social matters, as they tend to be in this day and age. Let's just have awesome characters who are right for the job, as people, regardless of gender or race come together to make an awesome movie, and leave politics out of it. We all know Star Wars is a better place without them.

 

How can we know you're telling the truth?

 

Kylo Ren is going to be great I'm sure but I voted for BB-8. That little droid is so cool and seems to have a lot of personality. Whenever it first rolled on stage at Celebration I felt like a kid again and was amazed! Wanted it for myself haha

 

Its very difficult to choose without seeing the movie.. so far finn interests me the most because hes a stormtrooper who goes rogue.. already it sounds like an absolutely classic idea.. before finn, stormtroopers were just nameless nobodys now we have one who will become a hero.. fantastic.
All the characters interest me though.. i just cant wait to hear more about them.

 

I don't trust BB-8. He's totally trying to out-cute R2-D2. My loyalties shall not be divided!

My favorite so far?

Oh Captain, my Captain...

 

My favorite character in starwars will always be Luke Skywalker no matter what. I believe Rey is shaping up to be fine Jedi to assist the Resistance in defeating the First Order, Finn is cool, Poe is a character trying to replace Wedge Antilles and I am partial to wedge also. I think all the new characters have their place in the new trilogy.

 

Wow I can't believe no one thought of this thread yet! Great idea! I think I have to go with Rey because she seems so spunky and in my mind (obviously we haven't heard any of her dialogue) I picture her being really witty and having great back and forth banter with Finn. BB-8 is awesome because (He/She/It) can communicate so many things without even speaking. From a design standpoint nothing tops Phasma though. Poor Poe needs some love too but from all we've heard he kind of seems like an afterthought after the first act of the movie. I hope his character grows in the sequels.

 

So far my favourite, if I had to pick a favourite it would be Poe Dameron. I think his character just screams coolness and from the teaser, when those X-Wings are flying low over the sea and the camera switches to Poe's face as he let's out that "woohoo" so full of emotion, it just makes me smile.

So far without seeing the film, Captain Phasma is intriguing. I picture her as the relentless huntress in the film. (Aka Jaws). She appears formidable. I love the look of our new 3 protagonists, but until I see their characters fleshed out and their on screen chemistry; I am going to hold any judgement about them.

 

How can anyone possibly say who their favorite new character is without seeing the film? Jar Jar Binks looked pretty cool until we actually saw TPM.

 

Jar Jar Binks did not seem cool before the film, and I was about 10. The shot in the trailer of the Gungan army walking out of the mist was cool, though.

It's interesting that they've decided to forego a 'new' alien sidekick (i.e. Chewie) and simply brought Chewie back, with BB-8 kind of acting as a combination Chewie/Artoo/Threepio. The Lessons of Jar Jar, I suppose. If you're afraid people might find a new major 'cute' character annoying, make sure it can't speak.
