Judging by their apperance only. That's why I choose Phasma. She looks amazing, but of course we will need to wait untill see her in action.

I haven't read too many spoilers(some stuff from looking at the general force awakens thread or reading an occasional article on the front page, but try to say away from the official character threads), so I'm not sure I know enough to make a full decision.

But based on look alone, I really like Rey. The staff is interesting to me so is some of the rumors about her training and fight style. Could be pretty cool. Also, as time has gone on, I am really starting to dig the look of Kylo Ren. At first I wasn't into it, but as more and more comes out with the art and other stuff, the look is really growing on me. I am hoping to like Finn as well, but I can't say I'm too excited about the look of the character(costume, blaster and in action) but I've seen so little I'm not going to judge too harshly. However, I do think there is huge potential in his arc or at least what I know of it; a First Order storm trooper switching sides.

Coincidentally, like the two folks above me, I also picked Rey.

The choice to have her live alone as a tough survivor in an extremely hostile world is a fascinating one; we have simply never seen a character who developed in such an environment, surviving on their own by the skin of their teeth while surrounded by murderous thugs. The only other major character I can think of who has a similar background is Han Solo (as Daisy Ridley herself has pointed out...probably not a coincidence).... And surviving all that as a young woman who can credibly hold her own in armed combat...interesting choice indeed.

Everything we know suggests that Rey is the Luke Skywalker of this trilogy.

Kylo Ren is a close second. I get the sense through everything we've heard from Abrams and Kasdan that the two characters who were the most interesting to flesh out were Kylo Ren and Rey. I take Kasdan at his word when he says we have never seen anything like him in a Star Wars movie before. Although it's true that this trilogy will return to the iconic style of a Darth Vader-esque villain (Ian McDiarmid owned the prequels in my mind, but he didn't really get to shine until ROTS, and by then we'd had to contend with mostly throw-away window-dressing villains; NOT a prequel-bash, just saying).

Based on the recordings we've heard (crappy audio quality aside), there's enough to guess that Driver won't be merely imitating James Earl Jones. As Kasdan says, this is a completely different character; a young man who's likely not "well."

Of course, the mystery behind the true origins of Rey and Kylo Ren adds to the appeal. Where the hell do they really come from?
The persistent and not-quite-confirmed speculation that they're Han and Leia's kids is, as always, an intriguing one. Driver and Ridley both have faces that are more or less perfect combinations of the faces of Han and Leia; they also looks exactly the way you'd expect Anakin and Padme's grandkids to look. Adam Driver has gone on the record in interviews stating that the Star Wars movies are about family, and this one is no different. Daisy Ridley has seemed to veer awfully close to flat-out confessing to being Han Solo's daughter....we'll see....

For me, John Boyega is far and away the most charming of the new cast, and I think in terms of pure *fun factor* he'll be doing a lot of the heavy-lifting in this movie. It was almost a three-way tie but I was bitterly disappointed that his awesome London accent has been traded in for a cheap American one. No offense, but I love the way he talks and was really looking forward to hearing it in a Star Wars movie...

I only hope Ridley gets to keep her accent (there's no talking Rey toy yet??)

Worth mentioning that all the characters seem to hit all the right notes.

Yeah, it's my first major gripe with this movie. Bad decision.

At this rate, I won't be surprised if Rey has an American accent too (despite reports to the contrary). Ah well.

    I think he sounds great!

I am surprised, though, that Daisy uses her English accent. If Rey really is Leia's daughter, it looks like she really took to the Princess Leia Diplomatic Accentâ„¢.

Great thread! Love reading everybody's thoughts!

I thought about voting for Rey without even having listened to her (and trying to avoid spoilers). The idea of this self-sufficient scavenger with uncertain background and possible ties to Han Solo is very appealing. I also love the potential of a female heroine, whom girls can identify with. She might be able to alter the sex ratio of us SW fans a bit closer to 1:1.
I considered Finn. The prospect of a stormtrooper turning Jedi (?) is simply awesome, and I can't wait to see how it'll play out!
I was tempted to vote Kylo Ren. What an intimidating figure shrouded in mystery!
Phasma could get my vote. She looks great, but I think I'm more influenced by the actress's stunning performance in Game of Thrones than anything I've seen for TFA.

But right now, BB-8 gets my vote based on cuteness and his appearance at the panel in Anaheim (I think) alone.

I'm also considering to switch my vote to Poe Dameron - probably because I'm in the middle of assembling his LEGO X-Wing.... :)

Alright, JinnStari. I'll do one better than telling you who my number 1 is. I'll rank the top 5. :)

    1. BB-8
    2. Rey
    3. Finn
    4. Kylo
    5. Poe

This movie can't get here fast enough!

My favourite character so far has to be Kylo Ren. However I see this changing once we get to see Supreme Leader Snoke. There is so much mystery surrounding him, I just cannot wait to find out more. I think he is one of the things I am most looking forward too about the ST.

Also - is it wrong to find Captain Phasma pretty hot? ;)

The one the interest me the most is General Hux, I know we didn't see anything of him, but I really like the look of the character, and I'm really curious to see him in the movie :D
After him Rey, then Kylo Ren, Finn and Poe

Kylo Ren is my favourite new character so far (Probably because we know the most about him) and he looks the blast of course but my favourite new cast member has to be Daisy, she's just so perfect for a Star Wars film. She's literally like exactly what I always imagined a female Star Wars lead would be like

    Without any hesitation, Kylo!
The character is very interesting and his emotional depth is wonderful.
Moreover, apart who are his parents, we know nothing about him. How did he fall into the Dark Side? Who are really the Knights of Ren of which he is the master (exact number, origin, force sensitives, siths or just warriors)? Why did he choose this name? When exactly did he fall into the Dark Side (while reading the novelization, we learn that Han hadn't seen him yet as an adult)?...
He is one the most enigmatic character of whole the saga (Rey is not far away either) and I LOVE enigmas and enigmatic characters!!

Hux is pretty good too. His scenes with Kylo are wonderful and he is a very convincing bad guy. Moreover, he is persuaded that he does a good thing while destructing the New Republic and nothing is more dangerous than a villain who thinks he does the right thing.

It's always fun to return to old threads and see messages from the pre-TFA era.

Kylo Ren for sure. Rey is a close second.
