    Yep.
An' ya know... I'm just sittin' here now an' thinkin' with all the what we don't know...it feels kinda like, to me, how it felt back when I was a kid... just waitin' for when the next movie'd come all the not knowin' (no interwebs back then).
Ya gotta know that's how they (LFL) want it ta be... an' that, as I see it, that's a Good thing... hard fer us ?

I think there is 2 ways to get excited: Getting excited to the point where you think this will be the greatest SW movie ever, then you're setting yourself up for disappointment.

Getting excited cause you think it will be a great movie that will build on TFA, then that's healthy. Deep down I feel this way, but have learned through experience that the movie is 3 months away so there is no reason to obsess about it now. You obsess about Christmas Morning in December, not in September. The same goes for a SW movie.

Well, to some people it may very well become the greatest, so in a way even extreme excitement could turn out adequate. ;)

Weirdly, it's the complete opposite for me. My excitement toned down significantly days before the release of both TFA and RO. I wasn't as giddy on my way to cinema as I was sitting down to watch the trailers for the first time. Perhaps my brain subconsciously gets tired of all the hype and goes "just give it to me already."

Don't fall into that trap. When you are up to the 8th movie of a successful franchise, or the 8th season of a successful tv show it's hard to be totally original.

I'm not saying it can't be great, but when you are expecting it to be the greatest then you are really setting yourself up for disappointment. ESB is an exception not the rule of being a classic movie that is either as great as the Original or better (depending on your POV). Most sequels are inferior, it's just the way it is because we've been there done that for many plot points. Again, there are great sequels but very few that are better then the original.

All I'm saying is that it's subjective. To me it's not crazy to like any of the SW films over the other.

My siblings got Star Wars on VHS before I was even born, so we always had it on. But when I was little I was kind of like "meh". I grew used to it being played in the background. But then when they had the whole re-release I was like "woah". Then we got the PT (and the agonizing years in between movies) and I was just so excited! Revenge of the Sith was such a step-up from the previous two and it was so awesome to be a Star Wars fan. But then it was dead again. I grew out of Star Wars. But when they released the teaser I was so fragging excited! It's Star Wars! I am sorry for ranting but if you grew up with Star Wars and were waiting for a real return to the characters we know and love The Force Awakens was the best thing ever. Which is why I'm so excited for The Last Jedi, despite their pretty average media campaign, I'm gonna see it and I'm gonna laugh, cry, cheer and sing. And then I'm gonna do it next year.

Lucasfilm got the promotion for TFA spot on and the chance to see the original characters again after so long was amazing, I was excited from the film being announced and when I saw the first trailer, I'm not ashamed to say that this then 37 year old had tears of joy in his eyes. The excitement for TFA was almost unbearable.

In contrast the hype for TLJ is no where near the same level, with only having one trailer everything seems to be very low key. I am excited to see anything Star Wars but I've not been as obsessed with TLJ as I was with TFA which I am glad of in a way. Not only that it might be the case that Lucasfilm just don't want to give too much away so I am fine with that.

Ironically the info and photo's from the Han Solo film have kept my mind off TLJ, I have previously said that I wasn't sure that the Han Solo film was a good idea but the more I've seen and heard the more excited I am for this film.

I have no doubt that my Star Wars obsession will grow even stronger closer to December!

Well the the unpleasant truth is that we are getting older. Scientists have found that the older you get the less impact new experiences have on your brain. Basically your brain is like "been there, done that". That's also the reason why time seems to go by faster the older you get. There simply aren't as many memorable days in your everyday life anymore. The underwhelming SW Celebration 2017 combined with a mediocre TLJ trailer certainly didn't help either. But I am pretty sure when the final trailer drops in October I'll be enthusiastic about SW once again :)

Star Wars will never be as magical to us as it was back then. It was an absolute marvel to us. We'd never seen anything like it. With today's level of technology we are increasingly lesser dazzled by visuals so now we expect the writers to take what was fun and simple good vs evil family-rated adventure spectacle and turn it into something poetically deep and mythical. It isn't fair to the folks making the films to be honest. This is why the fandom will remain divided. Many folks love star wars for what it is as a fun good vs evil tale and then there are a bunch who are angry that it has not evolved enough to satiate their now-grown-up viewpoints and outlook.

I am for sure excited for TLJ. Rian Johnson, one of my personal favorite directors is helming this movie. Heck, I was more excited for episode eight than TFA. Mostly because I dislike JJ Abrams as a director(he's a fine producer). This movie to me already has me excited because

    A) I do not know much about it. Smart marketing. I hope we get some more information, but it keeps TFA's marketing and keeps things silent. One good thing about Abrams is his adherence to the old Hollywood standard. Good for him.

    B) What we have learned: First SWs film to take place immediately after the events of the prior. First Jedi Temple* Big concept most people have glossed over. Luke Skywalker coming back into the fold. A promise of politics and world building, as RJ never hated the PT. He actually defended them.

    C) Better looking movie: I like practical effects, but like CGI they can be overdown and look bad. TFA while pretty, went way too far and some of the CGI was just bad. TLJ from the smallest glimpses, looks leagues better than even RO. Great production design, and the practical effects actually look a lot more real.

    D) Screenwriting: RJ is a screenwriter, on top of being a director. While being a screenwriter isn't a prequesite to being a good director, that aspect does go hand in hand. RJ is known for coaxing some absolutely wonderful performances. Looper, especially, made me impressed as Bruce Willis showcased that he could act again.

Overall, contrary to those whining, I am loving how LF is handling the marketing of TLJ. This is my most antcipiated movie, by virtue of the director. And if there is anyone who I want to succeed, it is RJ. Because, i truly believe TLJ is going to knock everyone's socks off with its quality.

I really don't think you are trying to be a hater but more of you being a fan who loves SW but fears the direction it's going. I too feel that way and I have to say it really hurts as I have loved SW ever sinse I was a kid. I love the OT and the PT with the same passion but TFA just didn't do it for me. Even so I was willing to give the ST a chance and hope that it would be good but the more I hear about what Disney is doing with SW the less excited I get. This is the first time in my life where a new SW movie is just around the corner and I'm not even a teeny bit excited. All I see is Disney trying to toss to the garbage mostly everything that Lucas created that made SW wonderful just so they can give us their version of SW which so far at least for me, pales in comparison with the six movies made by Lucas.

Sadly I'm not excited either. First time for me and it's not my intention to badmouth the new movies but each time a new Disney SW movie comes out my excitement dwindles. Never thought I would know a new SW movie was coming out soon and I don't feel anything. :(

Because it is disneyfied, is appealing to today's day of social issues, and because Lucus doesn't have an influence on it.

It'll be fun, but these movies are more of w
A "modern take" on Star Wars, opposed to.. Star Wars.
    --- Double Post Merged, Oct 12, 2017, Original Post Date: Oct 12, 2017 ---
Bingo. THAT'S why. Lucus is Star Wars.

Anakin is the chosen one, the fallen, Luke is the hero. What they are doing, especially with Rey, and even Kylo invalidates the significance of Anakin. But we'll see.

The Star Wars I know, Anakin/Vader played the largest role in the Galaxy and balance of the force ever, Luke saved him. Everything else is Anakin's legacy, but no one else has such a prophetic influence on the Galaxy and the force as Anakin. What remains should be risidual drama. Not a retelling of the freakish unexplainable all powerful being. That's already been done and established. Anakin is the Jesus figure of the force, and Luke is the hero who reminds Jesus what he is supposed to be.

I'm honestly confused by people that continue labeling the new films as "Disneyfied". Did these people not watch the recent installment where every single character dies? Or the one before that where a character murders his own father? I don't seem to recall situations like that occurring in Aladdin or The Little Mermaid, but perhaps I missed the subtext.
