You call it "escape", but Finn is a First Order soldier who has committed desertion, which by its definition is "the abandonment of a duty or post without permission", which in the British military is called Absence Without Leave (AWOL), for which a deserter can be tried in a military court and put into a military prison. In the past, deserters were often executed by a military firing squad.

Finn, if you examine his history, is a terrible role model. He's a coward, he released a captured enemy pilot without permission, he's a deserter and he's a liar - he continually lies to Rey and others about being a Resistance operative to hide his shame of being a First Order trooper, a coward and a deserter. When other First Order troopers recognise FN-2187, who they have served alongside, they are understandably outraged by his desertion, the label of "Traitor" Finn is given by his former comrade is fully justified and valid.

Finn is definately not Jedi material.

You really think that would surprise me, lol?
Not sure why it is so important to put nails in coffins. We don't know how much of that knowledge and tech made it through the Empire period in ANH the highest members of the imperial navy didn't believe in Vader's power. Maybe that was banned technology under the emperor not relevant enough, the best force user for him is an untrained one. The thing is the awakening that clearly included Finn. Yoda said that the force is about knowledge so whatever happened with Finn, that led to his conscious awakening, it fits to the narrative that the force is more active in that time period. That whole digital force sensitivity stuff, doesn't fit to the story of how Lucas saw the force, he said in 1981 that anybody can use it.

I know TFA is about Finn's awakening. From conditioning. But I didn't see it as his Force Awakening.
Im sure, depending of their midichlorian levels, everybody can use the Force to a certain extent, because every living creature has midichlorians? I saw a post somewhere around Cantina about detailed correlation between the measurable MC count in someone's blood and their specific ability to use the Force....having it being more intuitive (faster reflexes, better insight, 'luck' etc...) for lower MC counts and more physical (thoughts manipulation, choking, telekinesis etc...) for higher MC counts. And that only people with levels above certain limit can be considered to be Jedis? Nothing we have seen in Finn so far suggests that his ability to manipulate the Force is physical. Wielding a lightsaber is no proof of him being a Jedi material because non Jedi and non FS people can wield them? (Han, for one).
It is, however, interesting to speculate if midichlorians can multiply with coming of age or under certain outside influences. They are microscopic organisms, right? And Force Awakening in people could mean MD counts exploding? I was wondering is there a mention of that anywhere in canon?
But why then would the Jedi harvesting only the kids to join their order? If anyone can become FS and Jedi material at ANY point in their lives?

@GreyLo I would say both Han and Finn had to be FS to extent.

If every living thing in SW universe has midichlorians then I guess every living thing is FS to an extent?
I think PT has defined some things about who exactly can become a Jedi and what is needed for it...the tests kid Ani had to take with the Jedi Masters Council?
But also...having the order destroyed and practically non existent in OT perhaps extraordinary FS is no longer needed? I find myself questioning what does it mean to "be" a Jedi in ST....seems to be different for all the trilogies...

There are no Jedi in the Sequel Trilogy left, except for Luke. He attempted to restart an Order, but it went wrong, Ben Solo became Kylo Ren and as a result of it, he wiped the Order out causing Luke to flee into exile. Luke as the Order's founding member was and still is the only remaining Jedi - hence, "The Last Jedi". Even Rey at the moment has not achieved the status of a Jedi, she is merely very strong with the Force and is undiscplined and has not reached the rank of "Jedi". Similarly, Ben Solo is not a Jedi, he clearly did not achieve Jedi status and became a Knight of Ren.

According to Lucas, FS beings had more midichlorians than normal beings, and he had intended to introduce them in 1977, so I'm guessing Han using Anakin's saber in ESB was not unintentional. The same goes for Finn.

The ability to swing a lightsabre around does not make you a Force Sensitive or a Jedi. A lightsabre was just a convienient cutting tool for Han Solo to use to slice open a tauntaun to keep Luke warm on Hoth. Using a blaster to do the same job would have been considerably more difficult, messier and longer to achieve, which could have ended up with Luke freezing to death.

Similarly, Obi-Wan Kenobi shot and killed General Grevious with a blaster. Because he used a blaster, that does not automatically make Obi-Wan Kenobi a Clone Trooper either.

What it possibly means is, both Han and Finn might have been a bit more sensitive than normal humans, but it does not mean they would ever become Jedi. They just had a sort of sixth sense. I used to think Finn had potential to be a Jedi, but now I think he is just the new Han.

Well, maybe somebody copied it from a game or something but Lucas never considered them canon or put much work in it. The Duel of fates practically made a case against power levels and point distribution and shifted towards a connection of the force to the user.

Put some headphones on and listen to the rumbling sounds when Finn gets the bloody hand on the helmet. Or how Kylo reacts when he sees him.

I saw it partly as him having a realization that he is somewhere he does not want to be (waking up from the brainwashing), but he was also possibly sensing all the people dying around him. A lesser version of Obi-Wan's reaction to Alderaan being destroyed by the Death Star. Kylo definitely sensed something.

Picking up a lightsabre doesnt make you strong with the Force or a Jedi. It just means you have a lightsabre in your hand. It's just a manmade mechanical device, not a magic wand that gives you Force powers. You don't even need Force powers to use it, as Han Solo and Finn have demonstrated.

If I pick up a tv remote control, that does not instantly make me a tv presenter, tv salesperson or a tv repair person? No. Same comparison.

The film is called "The Force Awakens" because of Rey, not Finn. Rey has extraordinary Force powers which have layed dormant and unknown to her because she was placed far away on a remote world with few people and little exposure to the wider galaxy. What little she does know about the Force, Jedi and the Galactic War were just fairytale myths to her, she didn't believe it to be actually real. Just stories. She lives her day as a scavenger in quite an ordinary fashion and hasn't shown any force abilities yet.

Then she meets Han Solo, who she thinks is just a legend. He then tells her all these myths and stories are real, and happened. It's clearly a shock to her.

When she comes into contact with Maz's castle, its basement and the box containing Luke's lightsabre, she is then first exposed to the power of the Force, somehow the Kyber crystal within the lightsabre seems to trigger a vision for her. That moment is the dormant Force awakening within her. Soon after, she starts to use force abilities.

It could also be called that because the Force itself is awakening because of the imbalance, and Rey is being chosen to restore things as Anakin once did.

No, because the Force always exists as long as there are lifeforms alive to generate its energyfield. It never goes away. As Yoda says "Life creates it, makes it grow. Its energy surrounds us and binds us."

You just said Rey is the awakening, but why only now is she using her powers? It stil means TFA = Rey, but Rian is doing some sort of Chosen One thing it seems, though not like Anakin's destiny.

You misunderstand. Her ability to use the Force has awakened, along with her acceptance that it actually exists. She always had the Force, but as she didn't believe in it, never bothered to attempt to use it.

Anyway, this thread is meant to be about Finn being "The Last Jedi". And absolutely no chance of that happening, despite the protests from the Finn fanboys/girls
