What if Finn gets Anakin's/Luke's blue saber and Rey gets Luke's green saber? Maybe Rey receiving Luke's green saber could symbolize that she's uncorruptable like Luke and the blue saber could be "redeemed" by Finn the redeemed Stormtrooper using it.

If it's true, then all I can say is that everyone should be terrified because the saga is now in the hands of insane people, as you've said, so out of touch with the fans and movies and reality itself, that I think we should petition everyone involved be psychologically evaluated for their own safety, and the safety of those around them.

The "extremely unlikely" thing doesn't fit Star Wars, though. How likely is it that Luke Skywalker blows up the Death Star using the Force? How likely that his own Father is chasing him down in the trench? How likely that Han navigates an asteroid field? Fate is a known player in the SW universe so "the odds" are never really at play, and there's never really anything "likely" or "unlikely".

Look, Star Wars itself was something that was never intended to return at all. Are you surprised to see a Star Wars movie again? As surprised as seeing that lightsaber again? The lightsaber is THE symbol of the films, and there's no other symbol that has its meaning. There's nothing else that was ever held up and said "THIS is your life". Star Wars and the lightsaber are the same, the metaphor is apt and nothing else could convey that metaphor better than that blue lightsaber.

Haha, okay, I agree, but I'll hold you to it! ;) You let me know where to sign up two weeks from now. :p

Star Wars isn't "realistic", yes, I get your point, but the films still had their own set of rules and realities to abide by. Luke blowing up the Death Star by using the force to guide the torpedos into the exhaust port is entirely likely in the context of Star Wars (newsflash: the good guy wins...how unlikely would it be for them all to lose and that be the end, lol? Nobody wants that), and that scene is the climax and kind of the point of the film: putting your trust in something greater than yourself, the triumph of man over machine, return to nature, etc, whereas Luke's blue lightsaber and hand returning from Empire Strikes Back just sounds like flimsy fan fiction, its loss never meant anything beyond "Oh no, Luke lost his hand and lightsaber!"....the trilogy/story never stopped because of it. Because he just made another one. Something that was so "incredibly important that the entire sage revolves around", Luke just replaced with something different entirely.

That doesn't excuse bad ideas and flimsy fanfic-y writing.

    Kind of...yes, I guess.

No, because it's just a horrendously bad idea...I never would have considered they'd do something that sounds so unoriginal and amateur-ish.

The lightsaber in general as a weapon is a symbol of the films, but that particular lightsaber exclusively itself never was nor was it intended to be. It symbolized legacy for the scene it was introduced in. If it were that important, it would have returned at the end of Empire Strikes Back or Return Of The Jedi. But no, instead we got Luke's badass awesome green lightsaber, the first saber that was TRULY his and his alone since he created it.

That's funny, because it isn't even the same lightsaber, that one gets crushed on Geonosis. Anakin gets another one later on identical to it. Why couldn't they have just done that and held it as symbolic since it's the same model as Anakin's/Luke's? Even the prequels knew not to do something as stupid as the lightsaber from Empire Strikes Back returning. Imagine if Darth Maul's destroyed lightsaber returned (let alone Maul), how dumb and fanfic-y would that sound? I'd be against it and I even hate typing that idea.

Also, since we're referencing the prequels, the legacy of the lightsaber that was used to kill 30 kids sure needs to continue, right? This is the problem with all this great significance and over-emphasis being placed on something that was originally intended to be a tool and nothing more.

If the metaphor was for "this movie is essentially fanfic in that it's the first Star Wars movie made entirely by a fan", then yes, I'd say that retconning Empire Strikes Back so the blue lightsaber could return was the right choice.

True that JJ know what the fans want, but that doesn't necessarily means that we will get all that we want..;);)
